Introduction

IBN server installation will help you to install server version of Instant Business

Network 4.5.

We recommend you learning carefully all the units, paying attention to the notes regarding

software requirements, as you are going to install IBN 4.5.

Besides full installation description you can find here additional recommending and

advices for making the installation and working process easy and convenient.

You can use IBN Server in the trial mode for 45 days with some limits. The list of limits

is on our site. You will have to activate the license as soon as trial version expiration takes

place. You can get more details about it in one of the units below.

We recommend reading the whole document before you start Instant Business Network

installation. Pay attention to Chapter 6, if you have already worked with IBN 4.1 and

would like to convert to IBN 4.5 Read this chapter carefully to transfer the data into the

new portal with no loss.

Chapter 1 System requirements

IBN Server software works onto Microsoft Windows and uses Microsoft SQL Server for

data storing.

1.1 Software requirements

This unit contains essential system requirements for successful IBN server installation.

Make sure your hardware and software satisfy the noticed requirements before you start

installation process. If your hardware and software do not satisfy the requirements outright

or partly, IBN will notify you during the installation process. This will however stop the

installation process.

1.1.1 Basic software requirements

Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 3 or later version or Windows 2003 Server

Note: Windows 2003 is better speaking about safety and efficiency.

Note: if you wish to install IBN Server onto Windows XP, you will have to pay attention to

some restrictions, which appear in the working process; inobservance of which will turn to

technical problems:

Windows XP allows no more than 10 simultaneous connections to IIS web server;

Only one Web Site in IIS can be run. It is recommended to stop all the Web Sitesbefore IBN Client installation.

As IBN Client requires two connections (like every portal page), the amount of users who

work with the Server on WinXP is extremely small. So we recommend you using server

with Windows XP just for acquainting.

Two services included into both operating systems which must be installed are the

following:

Internet Information Services (IIS) must be installed on the current server;

SMTP Server must be installed for sending messages to your mail server.

1.1.2 Additional components

MDAC 2.7 or later version;

.NET Framework 1.1 Open Control panel Add or remove programs, youwill see the following - This comes with Windows 2003 Server.

1.1.3 SQL Server requirements for IBN Database

SQL Server 2000 SP3 or SQL Server 2005 working on local or available remoteserver. Using free versions ofSQL Server (MSDE SP3 or SQL 2005 Express) is

also possible;

Make sure, autentification mode SQL Server and Windows is installed on the SQL

Server.

SQL DMO (SQL Server Client Tools) on the SQL Server distributive.

Note: this component will be required by the wizard for converting database from IBN 4.1

to IBN 4.5. So it is necessary only in case you need data transfer to your new IBN 4.5

portal from IBN 4.1.

Note: You can go to http://www.microsoft.com or use Windows Update to access these

components.

Dont start IBN Server installation until you make sure your software do satisfy the noticed

requirements.

1.2 Hardware Sizing requirements

IBN server is a scalable platform; it can support both small amount of users and thousands

of users easily. Hardware requirements are noticed below.

For small workgroups and development teams (less than 50 users):

A Single Processor Pentium Server, with 256 Meg of RAM will be more than sufficient. If

you are going to use MS SQL server on the same box, then you should consider adding an

additional 256 Meg of RAM to bring the total 512 Meg. You should also have a disk drive

capable of storing an appropriate amount of data for your organization

For medium organizations and divisions (before 200 users):

A Dual Processor Pentium Server, with 512 Meg of RAM will be more than sufficient. If

you are going to use MS SQL server on the same box, than you should consider adding an

additional 512 Meg of RAM to bring the total 1 Gigabyte. You should also have a disk

drive capable of storing an appropriate amount of data for your organization.

For large companies and organizations (unlimited):

IBN is quiet flexible programme product. Using it, companies have to focus on advanced

scaling technologies and account industrial capacities, maintained by our server software.

2.2 Running the IBN Server Installation Wizard

Simple using Install Shield Wizard of IBN will help you to install the IBN server quickly

and start working.

Note: Make sure, your software and hardware satisfy the noticed requirements, and you

know IP address or DNS.

Note: You have to belong to Administration group for IBN Server installation.

Step 1 Launching the Server Installer

Once the file copying has been completed, start working with InstallShield Wizard by

Setup.exe running.

Click Next in the displayed window.

Step 2 License agreement

There is a license agreement in the displayed window. Select I accept and click Next.

Step 3 Customer information and serial number

Type username and your company title.

Step 4 SQL Server Database Information

Then you have to enter name of SQL server on your network, username and password that

are authorized to create a new database on your SQL server. You can accept the default

database name of IBN41 (recommended) or change it to another one you wish. Once you

have done this click Next.

Step 5 Establishing IBN Service Login for SQL Server

This time you have to set the password which will be used by IBN server software in

connection with SQL service, particularly for working with database, which will be

created automatically in the installation process.

This password can be random generated (recommended) or entered manually.

Select Generate random password to create the password automatically, or Enter

password manually to enter it on your own. In the last case, you will have to confirm the

password you had entered.

If you install IBN 4.5 on the same SQL server as IBN 4.1 or IBN 4.0 already work with,

and if you want to save the working capacity of both systems, the password for connection

with SQL Server will be constant.

If you entered the password manually during IBN 4.1 (4.0, 3.5) installation, type the same

password while IBN 4.5 installation. If the password was random generated for IBN 4.1

(4.0, 3.5), look for its meaning gin the register:

and enter while IBN 4.5 is being installed

After you have done all the actions, click Next.

Step 6 Selecting or creating the IBN web server

InstallShield Wizard of IBN can install the software for internet portal automatically on the

virtual web server created on running server, or create a new virtual web server in the IIS.

You will also have to point SMTP server, which will be used for mail.

Select the required information and click Next.

Step 7 Company information, domain and language setting

This time you have to enter the information to be used for finalizing the configuration of

IBN server software. Fill all of the fields of the form. It is essential to make sure that you

had entered the correct DNS or IP of your IBN server.

Note: If you decided to use DNS name, make sure you have entered the fully qualified

domain name into the Server name field. You can enter IP address of server instead of

domain name.

The entered name will be used later by users for access to IBN portal. They will enter the

server name in address bar:

For example, address can look as:

http://mycompany.mydomain.ru

http://server1 http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Pay attention that this name (or IP address) will be required later both for logging into the

IBN portal and for connection with IBN Client messaging system.

To connect to server, use the following type of login:

Type the text to be displayed in the Title field.

Once you have finished, click Next.

Step 8 Selecting setup type

You will have to select setup type: custom or complete. Complete setup is used in most

cases.

Note: It is highly recommended to use complete setup.

In case you select custom setup, you can change a folder where IBN Server will be

installed. To do this click Modify.

You can look through the information about area size on your hard disks. To do this, click

Disk.

Step 9 Starting and monitoring the installation process

This time you will see the screen with Install button.

Check if the information you noticed is correct and click Install.

As soon as you click this button, InstallShield wizard of IBN will start the installation

process. It will take from between 2 to 10 minutes depending on the speed of your server

and networking.

During this time you will see the form similar to displayed on the left one, which will

include the variety of actions that are being performed.

Note: The command window can appear on the screen in the installation process. This is

normal and you should let it go as it will be establishing certain setups with your database.

If the process is completed successfully, you will see the window which signifies that theinstallation is complete.

Chapter 3 Verifying IBN installation

3.1 Reviewing installed components

Despite of the simple installation process, there are some essential facts, you should

understand.

Pay attention to the following items:

The working IBN databases were created on your SQL server; they form the basic

center of keeping information, which is used by IBN users. If you use theEnterprise manager, you will see that they both start with the IBN letters.

A full IBN web portal was installed and ready to be run. You can customizeseveral portal settings if you wish.

Users have an opportunity of IBN Client download real-time client softwarefrom the portal which includes Windows, MAC, UNIX and PDA. You can

download this software from Download the IBN Client portal page. The client

software of IBN connects to servers address based on the user login

([email protected] or [email protected], depending

on how you named your IBN server during installation.

The successful completion of all three stages means that IBN is installed and ready to be

used.

3.2 Performing a quick validation

To verify all the components have been setup correctly, open up a web browser and type

in the fully qualified domain name that you have setup as described above and hit enter.

When you do this, you will see the page similar to the following.

3.3 Using the default administrator account to login

For final verification, use the account information below to login to the IBN Portal.

The default IBN administrative account is as follows:

Login: admin

Password: ibn

Enter this information into the portal login area and click Login.

Note: It is recommended to change this password as soon as possible.

Once you have logged in, you will see the screen My work of the IBN portal.

3.5 Trial version restrictions

There are some minor functional restrictions while IBN trial version using.

If you install trial version on a local server:

Duration: 45 days Quantity of users (maximum): 20 Quantity of external users: 10 Quantity of project groups: 2

Chapter 4 Installing additional tools

4.1 Installing client tools: IBN Client, IBN Toolbox, IBN

Before you start working with the system, install IBN Client Tools on your computer.

To install Client Tools go to Get IBN Tools page from the Home page and use IBN

Client Tools.

Click Download corresponding to the package English version.

Once the installation process is complete, launch IBN Client using the shortcut Start All

programs - Mediachase Instant Business Network IBN 4.5 Client.

Default system user with administrators rights is created while portal installation process.

This account can be used both for logging into the portal and connecting IBN Client to the

server.

Type account name in the Name field (admin originally)+@+.

For example, [email protected].

Enter password corresponding the account in the Password field (ibn originally).

Name complication is provided for simultaneous connecting IBN Client to different

servers.

There are two more applications included into the Client Tools: IBN Tool Box for easier

working with IBN (especially if it is your first time of working with the system) and

Screen Capture System which enables to take screenshots, make video and audio and send

them to IBN users. Before you start making video using Screen Capture, install Windows

Media Encoder 9 Series.

4.2 Installing MS Outlook Plug-in for Incidents

MS Outlook Plug-in for Incidents enables to manage Issues through the MS Outlook mail

client. You can download this application from Get IBN Tools IBN portal page.

Chapter 5 IBN Server license activation

5.1 Activating your server license from trial

If you have reached this place after doing all the noticed actions, you have installed IBN

Server successfully. Server has several restrictions in the trial version mode regarding

amount of users, duration period and others. The full list of the restrictions is on the

Mediachase site www.mediachase.com.

IBN Server activation will provide an opportunity of additional user licenses and will take

off the restrictions on the time of product use. To activate, you will need a serial number.

The activation process is quite simple and quick. You can activate IBN Server through the

internet or sending e-mail to our company.

To activate the IBN Server any of these ways, you will have to use Mediachase product

activator.

5.2 License activation

Do the following actions to activate your license.

Step 1 Launch IBN Server activation tool

Click Start All programs - Mediachase - Instant Business Network - Activate IBN

Server as shown below.

Step 2 License type choosing

There are two license types you can activate.

Use current license This is for clients who have a licensed not-trial version of the IBN

server running who are upgrading to another version, or are adding additional user

licenses.

Enter new product key This is for new customers who have just purchased IBN license

or have been given a serial number for activation.

Select the required item and enter serial number if you need, then click Next.

Step 3 Choosing of activation method

You can choose one of activation methods: secure automatic internet activation or by e-

mail. You can also stay in the demonstration mode.

Choose the required item and click Next.

Secure Internet Activation

If you choose the Secure Internet Activation, you will see the window similar to the

following one. To start the process of automatic activation, click Start.

If you encounter a problem in the activation process, contact us by

[email protected] - and we will contact you immediately to provide assistance.

Activation by e-mail

If you have chosen the activation by e-mail, you will see the window similar the following

one. If your server is connected to Internet, click Send e-mail. The mail program with

the filled fields To and Subject will appear.

Note: If you do not have e-mail capabilities for this machine, you must copy the subject

text exactly and send the mail with the same subject to [email protected] .

You will receive a response and a certificate with instructions to apply the license.

On this stage the installation and verifying process will be completed. Please, read the

IBN Administration Guide to prepare IBN quickly and correctly for effective work of

organization.

Chapter 6 IBN 4.1 - IBN 4.5 converting

If you have worked with IBN 4.1 and decided to turn to working with new system version

- 4.5, use the following scheme for more comfortable convertation:

1. Install IBN 4.5 using new domain name.

2. Transfer the data from your IBN 4.1 portal using special proposal of IBN 4.1-4.2Converter.

3. Make sure, all the data were transferred correctly.

4. If the converting process has been successfully completed, delete the old portal andchange the domain name of IBN 4.5 portal to the basic one.

6.1 Installation on the same server as IBN 4.1 is being run

Before you start new version installation, it is recommended to save all the reserve

copies of your IBN 4.1 system database.

To save the working capacity of both systems while IBN 4.1 Installation is being installed

on the same server as IBN 4.0 is being run, keep the SQL server connection password

with no changes.

You have to enter this password on the 5th stage of IBN Server installation using

InstallShield Wizard. To get more details, see2.2 Running the IBN Server Installation

wizard.

If you typed the password manually while IBN 4.1 was being installed, type the same

password while IBN 4.5 installation. If IBN 4.1 was created at a random, look for its

meaning in the register.

(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mediachase\Instant Business

Network\4.1\Server\Install, IBN_SQL_PASSWORD string) and enter this while IBN 4.5

installation.

6.2 IBN 4.1-4.5 Converter

If youve worked with IBN 4.1 and would like to convert it to IBN 4.5, you should transfer

working information from the old portal to the new one. To make this process possible

special IBN 4.1-4.5 Converter has been designed.

Step 1 IBN 4.1-4.5 Converter running

Go to:

:\Program Files\Mediachase\Instant Business Network\4.5\Server\Tools\

and run IbnConverterGui.exe.

Note: if you modified installation folder during the installation process, converter route

will not be the same.

Step 2 Convertation settings

Open Settings tab.

Point SQL Server where IBN 4.1 is installed (you can select it from the list or type

manually).

Check the box Use Trusted Connection to use Windows authentification for connectionto SQL Serve or type user name and the password.

Select main database out which you will transfer the data (IBN Main DB). If you didnt

change main database name during IBN Server installation, it will have IBN41 name.

This time you will have to pint the similar information for IBN 4.5. Use > button to copy

information for IBN 4.1 if you need.

Attention: you will have to select corresponding companies both for IBN 4.1 and for IBN

4.5. All the data related to IBN 4.1 will be deleted.

If you want to convert Issues correctly, you have to assign an Issue box. You can assign

the one box for all the Issues being converted (One Issue box for all Issues) or special box

for every Issue manager. In the last case you have to point a manager (Manager field) for

all the Issues (with no manager) being converted.

Moreover, you have to select one of available calendars which will be assigned as a default

calendar for every Issue box.

Step 3 Data transfer process

Verify carefully the information youve entered and click Convert. Open Log tab tocontrol the data converting process.

In case of a mistake the information regarding it will be displayed in the application

window.

If data convertation process is complete you will receive the corresponding message.

6.3 Data converting features

The process of convertation from IBN 4.1 to 4.5 has several features:

Files and comments related Issues are converted into Issue forum messages. Fileversions are converted to separate messages.

As a result of Issue creating process modification, e-mail boxes provided forexternal Issues (Incidents) are deactivated..

6.4 Changing domain portal name

Once you have worked with IBN 4.5 and decided to continue using this version as a basic

system, you can change domain name of the new portal to the one you used during

working with IBN 4.1.

To do this, run from c:\Program Files\Mediachase\Instant BusinessNetwork\4.5\Server\Tools\the following command:

IbnServerSetup.exe /act:rename /from:OldName /to:NewName

where and are old and new domain names correspondingly.
