IBS Battery Systems

IBS offers extensive system options covering the range of battery systems and power supplies for the vehicle and boat market as well as for remote battery powered systems.

Years ago, I was travelling in Australia in the Great Victorian Desert with my 60 Series LandCruiser. Because of two flat batteries I couldn’t start my car. This drastic experience led to the development of the IBS dual battery systems and finally to the establishment of the company IBS. We use our know-how and the latest technology to produce products of the highest quality and reliability.

Continuous development lead us to next generation tech-nology with micro power RISC Micro Computers (MCT). This new technology is now being integrated in the IBS products offering a variety of great features and impro-vements. The latest DC/DC-converter technology is now available in the new DBM20A InCarCharger Dual Battery Management System.

We are manufacturing in Switzerland to maintain the high quality level and to be able to react fast to the special re-quirements of our customers.

For emergency situations all battery monitors (DBS) are equipped with a manual override function. This manual linking function (called load sharing) is very helpful for jump starting or when using high current appliances such as an electrical recovery winch, power inverter or compressor. After 30 minutes the system returns to fully automatic mode.

The installation of all the Dual Battery System is easy. Only 4 control wires as well as the power cable (not included in the kit) are needed. The installation does not need D+ line connection from the alternator. Applications include: off road, Rally, county travelling, police, military, utility and emergency vehicles.

Dual Battery System (DBS)

When driving the batteries are linked together automatically by the IBS 200A/12V power relay for charging, and when the en-gine is turned off the batteries are separated again. Accessory power is now supplied from the Auxiliary battery without the risk of discharging the Starter battery leading to problems starting the engine. The new optional and easy to install Solid State Relay Booster Module (RBM) allows a link start from the Auxiliary battery if the starter battery fails totally.

IBS-DBS battery monitor is installed in the vehicle, informing the driver of the status of both batteries as well as the charging voltage from the alternator or from an additionally installed so-lar system. The 4.5 metre cable installation kit allows for easy mounting in the car. System offers a great range of features such as manual 30 and 120 mins link, low battery and link fai-lure alarm, dimmed LEDs, link deactivation and trailer battery recognition, now available with E24 automotive approval.

IBS-DBR is a compact and easy to install Dual Battery Relay, only 3 connections required. Designed for under bonnet instal-lation. Equipped with 2 LED’s for relay and system information. Optional link function for 30 Min. Trailer recognition function de-tects missing trailer battery and disconnects power to the trailer plug. Extends IBS-DBS or DBi-DBS to triple battery system with Aux battery in car or trailer. RBM function is included.

DBi-DBS Battery monitor is mounted in either the engine compartment or the vehicle. The linking function corre-sponds to the IBS-DBS. The 4.5 metre cable installation kit allows the easy mounting in the car. System offers a limited range of features such as manual 30 and 120 mins. link and status battery information.

Single Battery System (SBS)

IBS-SBS for the display of the status of a single battery (so-lar system as option) in a caravan, mobile home, the starter or aux battery in the vehicle, or even in a country or mounta-in hut. IBS-SBS is equipped with a low battery alarm.

The IBS Dual Battery Manager DBM20A

Modern cars come with a new range of alternator settings what require new dual battery solutions. Smart alternators may not be suitable to charge pro-perly a dual battery system. Here the DBM20A with the 12V DC/DC 20A InCarCharger function comes in place. Three battery types can be selected for best operation. The DBM20A offers sophisticated 3 and 4 stage charge modes.

If only the DBM20A is installed the unit starts operating if charge or D+ is detected. With the installation of the optional IBS relay in combination with the DBR switch or the IBS monitor additional functions such as emer-gency link start, winch support or fast charge are availa-ble. Existing IBS-DBS installations can be integrated.

The D+ input can be left open, in this case DBM20A starts operating if the main voltage exceeds 13.1V. In cars with smart or voltage reducing alternators the D+ input detects the running engine and the DBM20A starts operating.

At first start up the battery type (low, mid, high) has to be selected through the Link/Prog input. The DBM20A offers either a 3 or 4 stage charge mode (bulk, absorption, float) with optional equalize mode. If the DBM cannot hold the charge level due to high load on auxiliary battery, the DBM switches over to the IBS relay if installed.

The rugged aluminium case with flanges offers easy instal-lation. The electronics are completely sealed with silicone to withstand moisture, heat and water. Installation in engine compartment still requires a mounting location away from direct heat radiating parts such as exhaust systems.

IBS Ultra Sine Inverters

The IBS Ultra Sine Inverters generate 230VAC pure sine signal from 12V or 24V DC battery power. This power is the same quality as the power available from your pow-er point at home. This is in stark contrast to lower quality inverters on the market that produce power as modified sine wave, modified square wave, square wave, trapezoid or triangular wave. These older technologies have restric-tions in various applications and can never compare in quality with pure sine inverters.

The Ultra Sine high frequency inverters are available with power outputs of 150W, 400W, 800W and 1600W. The Ultra Sine Inverters will safely operate sensitive measuring devices, medical equipment, computers, refrigerators as well as household and handicraft devices. The light and very compact inverters come in rugged aluminium cases. High surge power helps to start almost all appliances. Various protective circuits (under and over voltage, over-load with Dynamical Surge Control, short-circuit and over-heating) will guarantee best functionality. Highest safety is achieved by the galvanic insulation between battery and AC-output.

If no appliances are connected the inverter returns after a time delay to the power saving stand-by mode. The optional remote switching control RP03 is availab-le if the access to the installed inverter is not easy. The models 800W and 1600W are available in a waterproof version (IP66) as USi80 and USi160 model. Durable die cast aluminium housing is absolutely waterproof and withstands most extreme outdoor situation.

Waterproof Ultra Sine Inverters (USi)

800W and 1600W sealed IP66 Ultra Sine Inverter

The Ultra Sine Industrial IP66 Inverter has been de-signed to handle rough outdoor conditions with no further protection required. The inverter delivers ap-prox. 15mins 800/1600W (always depending where installed at what ambient temperature) and a conti-nuous power of approx. 600W/1200W. Important is that the inverter is installed avoiding direct sun light or any heat radiating parts to achieve best performance.

The inverter gets started with RPi03 remote (for USi80/160) switch which is connected with the sealed “Bulgin Connector” to the socket in the Inverter.

For big loads the inverter offers 2.2/4.5kW surge performance, what allows starting almost any load. We recommend using batteries with a capacity of 80/160Ah@12V or more to back up the inverter suf-ficiently. If no appliances are attached the inverter returns after a time delay to stand-by mode.

IBS Low Battery Protection

The new family of Low Battery Protection circuits prevent unwanted deep discharge of starter or aux batteries. The different models utilise the latest SMD technology to cover a load current range from 5A to 24A. Installation is very simple and requires no speci-alized knowledge. Designed for single battery (SBS) or dual battery systems (DBS). LBP8 and 16 come with the latest Micro Controller Technology (MCT) providing many new user friendly functions.

SK80 portable solar kit with regulator

Efficient portable solar technology kit

The SK80 is equipped with the IBS solar regulator uSun6, which has been developed for the IBS portable solar kits. The regulator is integrated into the rear of the panel and gives status battery information with 3 coloured LEDs and indicates if the system is connected to a battery. The wiring length is 5m with an additional 2.5m link to the battery. All connectors are waterproof and made for solar applications. The uSun6 solar regulator offers a detachab-le solar meter indicating the charge current from 0.5-5A. Hence the solar kit can be placed into the sun charging the batteries in the best possible way. The solar kit has all parts what are needed for installation. If the solar kit is not in use it easily can be stored in the optional available Carry Bag (CB80).

MCF40 and MCF80

The IBS MCF (Modular Clean Frame) 12V solar cells offer many new great features. The Monocristalline 40W and 80W solar cells are about 25% smaller and lighter than comparab-le cells from the past. The skinny aluminium frame with only 29mm thickness offers a wide range of ways to mount it (glue on corner mounts or aluminium clips) and is highly rugged for serious travelling conditions. Due to new spectrum optimisati-on this cells offer a 15% higher performance.

FlexoPower rollable solar kit

The FlexoPower rollable solar kits are made for the serious outdoor applications. They come in 3 different sizes such as 79W/158W/237W and are complete with solar regulator and 10m wiring. All connections are made with the power Brad Harrison connectors for best connections. The medium size kit SK158 delivers for instance up to 10A. The amorphous cells deliver up to 15% more daily energy than comparable glass modules. Due to internal construction the panels are shadow resistant, even if cells are shaded the rest of the panel still delivers 100% energy. The cells have an output of up to 40% in severe overcast conditions.

This solar kits are very much rugged, virtually unbreakable. Even if heavily abused they keep working.

The FlexoPower solar kit can be placed on flat ground be laid over a car roof, an awning. The integrated eyelets allow a se-cure installation if there is wind. Applications include 4WDing, Expedition, Camping, Boating, Mountain huts and also Military.

Flexopower foldable Atacama solar kit

Same technology as the SK79/158/237 solar kit but folda-ble, what offers an even smaller packed size of 28x39cm. There is virtually everywhere a spot to store and transport such a solar kit. Depending of ordered size the system co-mes with one, two or three panels to be laid out flat on the ground, over a car or awning. It is not possible to make solar simpler or more practical. Approved and used by the military of Namibia.

CouplerTec rust protection

CouplerTec from Australia is an effective electronic system for professional protection against rust for all cars or trucks which are exposed to corrosive enviri-onment. Depending on vehicle size a system with the appropriate number of capacitive pads is installed in the vehicle. Personal cars/4WD range is from 2 to 6 pads and commercial vehicles from 4 to 12 pads.

CouplerTec draws a small amount of energy from the vehicle battery and feeds the 2-12 coupler pads (depending on the size of the vehicle) with pulses. This 200kHz / 400V pulses generate over the entire vehicle (car body and chassis where available) a capacitive negative charge to protect against rust (rust-oxidation of iron Fe and oxygen O2 to Fe2O3 is suppressed).


IBS I 19

CouplerTec offers two ranges of products for personal cars/4WD and commercial vehicles. For the commercial applications are the xCOMM 12V/24V systems suitable for trucks, tractors, building machinery and mining equip-ment. These systems come with a more powerful and bigger control unit feeding the bigger commercial size coupler pads.

The kit for personal cars/4WD is complete for self-instal-lation (SFK) suitable for people with basic electronic and mechanic skills. The xCOMM systems do come without the double insulated wiring, what we supply if needed. The xCOMM systems are delivered with the correspon-ding protective covers (2PC), what has to be ordered se-parately (1PC) with the cars/4WD systems.
