Mission Statement
Establish globally compatible information-sharing capabilities
to provide on-demand, real-time knowledge to support
distributed decision-making roles of users, operators, and
service providers. Enable all stakeholders to reach informed
decisions through increased knowledge of current conditions,
plans and events affecting the national airspace system.

Why Network-Enabled Operations
• Net-Enabled Operations (NEO) is the critical foundation for the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen)
• The NextGen operational vision calls for: timelytimely, accurateaccurate, and securesecure information sharing across all stakeholders
• Need to share a wide range of data and information concerning aircraft, airport, and airspace operations, along with safety, security, and weather
• Information sharing is at the core root of NEO with a near term focus on two major areas:
- Infrastructure - Services
4
A robust, globally interconnected network in which information is shared in a timely and consistent way among users, applications, and platforms during all phases of aviation operations. • Enables shared situational awareness
• Supports air navigation services, airport, and flight operations
• Supports security, safety, environmental, and performance management services
• Supports compliance and regulation oversight
Net-Enabled Infrastructure
5
• Real-time free flow of aeronautical information from all sources, integrated internationally
• Push/pull processes according to needs, priorities, and roles
• Common awareness of day-to-day ops, events, crises
• Integrated surveillance data across governmental entities and borders
Core net-enabled services that will allow access in an automated and virtual fashion where a request for information by subscribers is produced, using established protocols and standards.

Enterprise-of-Enterprises Approach
Challenges:
• Systems & Network interoperability
• Culture change for operational staff
• Intra- & Inter-Governmental policies are not aligned

Summary
• The technology is ready, policy and operational parts are challenging
• Legacy systems can be made to share information – affordably
• Real-time information sharing with a scalable, extensible architecture is possible
• Showed clear potential for multi-stakeholder operational benefits
