ICCCAD at COP23 Agenda for COP23 ICCCAD is particularly interested in exploring how universities can be used to build capacity and support the next generation face impacts of climate change. ICCCAD aims to be recognised globally as a centre of excellence on Loss and Damage related scientific and action research. The goal at this COP is to enable Bangladesh and LDCs to share their knowledge and utilise the understanding gained to strengthen the negotiation process. The International Centre for Climate Change & Development (ICCCAD) is a

Capacity Building Day Date: November 16, 2017 (9.00am to 5.30pm)

Objectives:

- The first ever Capacity-Building Day will feature presentations and discussions on  capacity-building initiatives that enhance the implementation of nationally determined contributions.

- The event aims to bring together practitioners, policymakers, researchers, students, and entrepreneurs to bridge the gap between the need for capacities with those offering capacity-building activities.

- Exploring the roles of universities in implementing the NDCs and SDGs.

- Envisioning how the PCCB, and other university-based initiatives can increase access to academic resources, and promote long-term collaborative relationships in order to share knowledge, improve skills, and develop solutions to complex challenges relating to climate change and sustainable development.

Sharing experiences from the ongoing Climate Finance Transparency Mechanism (CFTM) project in Bangladesh.

Enhanced understanding of the current status of the negotiations on loss and damage, including progress on the nine work areas of the loss and damage mechanism.

Handling Climate Risk and Loss and Damage

Objective:

This session will share experiences of the development of frameworks and actions aimed at supporting risks beyond adaptation’ and highlighting how actions on Loss and Damage can contribute to sustainable development.

Key Feature:

Initial insights from works done in Bangladesh, Nepal, Peru and India.

Saleemul Huq is the Director of ICCCAD and a Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Environment & Development (IIED). He has published many articles in scientific and popular journals, and is one of the leading authorities on adaptation, and loss & damage.

Mohammed Feisal Rahman is a faculty in the Department of Environmental Science at the Independent University, Bangladesh based in Dhaka. He coordinates ICCCAD’s research activities.

M. Hafijul Islam Khan is the coordinator of ICCCAD's Loss and Damage programme. He is a negotiator with the LDCs group and is also a member of the Bangladesh delegation attending COP23.

Mahmud Ali is the manager for ICCCAD’s Finance and Accounts and also a member of the Centre’s Senior Management team.

Naznin Nasir is coordinating Migration programme at ICCCAD. Her current works also focus on climate finance and capacity building.

Saqib Huq coordinates ICCCAD’s climate finance programme. He is also a member of the climate change and energy, and the centre’s youth program.

Riadadh Hossain is a Programme Coordinator at ICCCAD where he is overseeing a number of projects on climate finance, urban resilience and loss and damage in varying capacities.

Yusuf Mahid is a program coordinator at ICCCAD focussing on climate governance and finance and climate change mitigation.

Shababa Haque is working as a research officer at ICCCAD. She is also coordinating Climate Change & Energy and SDG program.

Meraz Mostafa is a research officer at ICCCAD. He supports the communications team and manages a weekly climate change page at the Dhaka Tribune.

Tasfia Tasnim is working as a Research Officer at International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) focusing on climate finance and urban resilience.

Shaila Mahmud is working as a Research Officer at International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) focusing on climate change & gender and capacity building.

Masroora Haque is a Graduate Fellow at the Centre International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and studies Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International affairs at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
