ice bowling
DESCRIPTION
A simple tossing game using only a rice bowl, and a ice cube trayTRANSCRIPT
OBJECTS NEEDED:
1. An ice cube tray, or a freezer that makes ice cubes.
You will need 12 cubes for a single game
2. Rice bowl – one needed, two preferred
If you only have one, each team will take turns using it
PLAYERS:
Two per team
One pitcher
One catcher
The pitcher throws the ice cube
The catcher catches it using only the rice bowl
SCORING:
Rounds 1-2: one point for each clean catch
Rounds 3-4: two points for each clean catch
Rounds 5-6: three points for each clean catch
A CLEAN CATCH:
Three requirements for a clean catch:
1. The ice cube is caught
2. Using only the rice bowl to catch
3. Holding the bowl with just one hand
THIS IS A CLEAN CATCH
NUMBER OF ROUNDS
There are 6 rounds, one per ice cube
2 rounds are thrown from 3 paces
2 rounds are thrown from 4 paces
2 rounds are thrown from 5 paces
PLAYING SURFACE
The game shall be played on a hard surface
Tile, concrete, marble, wood are all acceptable surfaces
Carpeting or other soft flooring material is not acceptable
DURATION OF ROUNDS:
A round lasts until the team’s cube breaks or melts
A break consists of:
-losing any piece of the cube anywhere but the bowl OR
-in or out of the bowl, breaking off more than 1/3 of the original cube
A melt consists of:
-losing more than half of the cube’s total volume to melting
This cube is broken and ends the round
This cube is chipped, but in the bowl. The round may continue
NUMBER OF THROWS
Teams can attempt an unlimited numbers of throws, provided that:
1. Until one team’s cube breaks or melts, teams alternative turns throwing
2. Once a team’s cube breaks or melts, its round is over
3. A team cannot start a new round until both teams end the prior round
UNCAUGHT THROWS
A catcher may use any means to keep an uncaught cube from breaking
Examples:
Using the catcher’s free hand to catch the cube
Trapping the cube against the body
Using a foot to break the cube’s fall
The uncaught cube can be returned to the pitcher for another throw
unless it is broken or melted
WINNERS
The team with the most points after round six wins.
In the event of a tie, the team with the most points in round six wins
If still tied, most points in round five wins
If still tied, start a new round and play until one team leads after a turn
