CIVIL ORIENTATION’ 17ICE Student Chapter UET, Lahore on behalf of Civil Engineering Department took the opportunity to welcome the new batch 2017 to the oldest and one of the most prestigious department of UET by organizing an Orientation event for the freshies.

The event comprising of two days, took place on 16th and 17th of October and consisted of various activities to let the juniors become familiar to the environment of UET. From seminars to faculty addresses, from guided tours of university to interactive sessions with seniors and various fun activities, these two days had been packed up with great joy, exposure and

opportunities for the new batch.

SEMINAR ON FINAL YEAR PROJECTSeminar on Final Year Project was held by ICE Student Chapter UET Lahore on 13th

September 2017 in Transportation Seminar Hall. Many Students attended the seminar to get information on strategic selection of topic.

This seminar was primarily held to develop sense of understanding in students regarding the choice of FYP. The secondary objective of the seminar was to enhance knowledge and eliminating difficulties faced by final year students about the final year projects. Guest Speakers narrated their experience and opinions to help students in taking their FYP

GUEST SPEAKERS:

Dr. Ali Ahmad: Dr. Ali Ahmad did his PhD from University of Tokyo in structure and being a young engineer, he knows the upcoming trends and interests.

Dr. Muhammad Irfan:

Dr. M. Irfan did his PhD from University of Tokyo in Geotechnical Engineering and currently serving as a teacher in UET. He offers research based Final Year Students.

Dr. Noor Muhammad Khan:

Dr. Noor Muhammad khan did his PhD in Water Resource management and currently working as a Professor in Civil Engineering Department, UET Lahore.

ORACLE PRIMAVERA P6 WORKSHOP AND SYMPOSUIM

ICE Student Chapter, UET Lahore always aim to provide a platform to the students of UET to learn something new yet polish their skills so they can excel in their professional life. Workshop on Primavera P6 has been conducted by ICE UET for many years. This year Oracle Primavera P6 Workshop was conducted along with informative symposiums and seminars.

TRAINER FOR WORKSHOP:

The workshop was conducted by Engr. Wajih Nadeem Qamar who is a project management specialist and has been working in the construction industry on infrastructure, power plants, high rise buildings, pre-engineered structure projects, etc.

A tremendous response had been witnessed on the workshop. Not only the students of UET showed their interest in the workshop, a lot of participation has also been seen from universities all over the Punjab. The two day

workshop was aimed to deliver to the participant a detailed knowledge of the software as Primavera is becoming a leading name in the domain of Project Management.

SEMINAR ON PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

A seminar on project management was organized by ICE UET to discuss the scope of project management as it is emerging as a major field of expertise now a days. The guest speaker for the seminar was Mr. Ali Usman Awan who is the General Manager of RECO Steels Building System and has a vast experience of the domain. The audience was greatly benefited from the seminar as their knowledge and vision about project management had been broadened through

SEMINAR ON GRE & SCHOLARSHIPS:

ICE Student Chapter conducted a seminar on GRE Testing and International Scholarships on 23th November 2018 to enhance students’ knowledge regarding various aspects of studying abroad, and to provide them with a platform where they can get their relevant queries answered. Our guest speaker was Hadia Hameed, a UET graduate in Electrical Engineering (2013-2017). A healthy aggregate of students was present as audience as it was surely a

beneficial listening for them.

RECRUITMENT DRIVE

ICE Student Chapter conducted its annual recruitment from 5th to 15th December 2017 to induct talented brains across UET and provided them with an ideal platform to

polish their abilities and enhance their team-working skills.

ORIENTATION:

After the induction of new members to the ICE Student Chapter Family, the society organized an Orientation. The primary objective of which was to welcome the new inductees to ICE family and discuss with them various important aspects of ICE Student Chapter such as rules & regulations,

working procedures of the society, code of discipline and the events organized by the society.

UET TECH WEEK 2017ICE was one of the lead organizers of UET TECH WEEK 2017. ICE was assigned the task of brochure making for UET TECH



[email protected] and given one module to organize with the name of CAD WAR.

CAD WAR

The event was held as a part of UET tech week on December 11, 2017. The module comprised of two rounds. As first round, a paper quiz was held. Second round consisted of creating a practical design using the software at the instance in specified amount

of time. This was to let the participants showcase their skills and creative instincts.

UET BOOK FAIR 2017The book fair was held for 2 days on 23rd

and 24th January 2018. The opening ceremony was hosted by Team ICE. Team

ICE also placed an info desk at the book fair at which was frequently visited by the students.

CAREER COUNSELLING SEMINARSUnderstanding the need of students, ICE Student Chapter organized Career Counseling Seminars in collaboration with UET Career Counselling Office, providing young minds with an ideal platform to clear their confusions regarding their future careers and getting relevant queries answered.

CIVCON Season 7CIVCON (abbreviation for Civil Conference) is an extravaganza which is welcomed by the students of UET with great enthusiasm and is aimed to give a break to students from their arduous study routine and at the same time avail a promising platform to showcase and testify their knowledge and skills. With more than 1000 participations, this event is the most anticipated and successful event of the calendar. This year CIVCON Season 7 was held from 6th to 9th March 2018 with 14 exciting modules and symposiums.

SCALED BRIDGE DESIGN COMPETITION

Scaled bridge Design Competition aims the design and construction of a bridge model as an implementation to real engineering knowledge allowing the students to testify their concepts and skills. It is the most anticipated module that CIVCON has to offer.

This Competition consisted of a single round in which participants were required to prepare a bridge model out of Balsa sticks to

the required specifications stated in the Problem Statement provided. Then the bridge was tested against a load at specific loading positions. The winner was selected based on the self-weight and the load carrying capacity of the bridge. It proved to be a great learning experience and opportunity for the students to work as part of real world design and boast their engineering skills with the bridge models constructed by them. There were 200+ participants in this competition. The participants were mainly from UET as well

as from UMT, UOL and BNU.

PLAN A TOWN

It provided the students a platform to improve their planning skills and see how they can improve a certain area of the university. This module focused the students from the departments like Architecture, Architecture Engineering and City and Regional Planning.

WEB WAR

This module was an opportunity for Web designers to explore their skills and challenge others by their web developing and design skills.

In this competition participants were given a Test Case to design and develop similar web page within three hours by using web

designing software and skills.

BATTLE OF GEEKS

The battle of geeks, the battle of nerds, the battle of minds!

Team ICE searched the nerdiest, geekiest, intelligent and smartest group of students in prestigious institutes of Pakistan as well as UET, Lahore through this event.

In this event 44 teams participated and each team was consisted of 3 to members only. They had to qualify three rounds in with maximum marks to grab this event.

From the assigning module to planning of the module to the execution of module, all heads

and team members participated in each activity. All the members enjoyed very well and the good thing is that all learnt team work passion.

GREEN BUILDING DESIGN COMPETITIONParticipants were given Main Library as a problem statement to which they were asked to give possible solution on how to make it eco-friendly and less dependent on national energy sources (WAPDA electricity). Participants were asked to submit their working on a presentation format along with report in which they presented their ideas with proper design proofs. They had 24 hours to work on their projects and present it to the jury.



[email protected] module saw a participation of 21 teams. Each team had 1-3 members. Prizes and internships at Pakistan Green Building Council were awarded between top 2 teams.

Umair Cheema and Muneeb Haider were the honorable judges for this module. They are currently working at “Pakistan Green Building Council” and have extensive experience in the field of green buildings and LEED certifications.

TECHNICAL DRAWING

COMPETITION

First time in the history of CIVCON a little technicality was introduced in this module. It was held on 7th of March 2018 (2nd day of event) in Civil Lawn on the back side of Civil Engineering Department, UET Lahore for the window of three hours from 1pm to 4pm. It was a local level event which engrossed students from all over the universities of Lahore.

I CREATE

This module was introduced for the first time in CIVCON 7.0.

This module was held on 7th March 2018. It was an opportunity for designers to explore their skills and challenge others by their creativity and design skills.

In this competition participants were given with a story line to design a game interface within three hours by using graphic designing software i.e. Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

There were 24+ participants in this module.

A non-technical but one of the most interesting and exciting modules is The

Analyst. Students have always liked this module by showing active participations. This platform was provided for the students to testify their proficiency in judgmental abilities, logic and organization of ideas and

skills. The Analyst was held on 7th March 2018 at Main Auditorium UET Lahore.

CIVIL ENTREPRENEURSHIPEntrepreneurship provided an ample platform for the students of UET to develop innovative ideas and project to create positive changes in community. The module emphasized on empowering the young entrepreneurial minds to create a sustainable world.

The event was held on Wednesday, 7th

March 2018 in collaboration with NIC

(National Incubation Centre) Lahore, led by the alumni of LUMS.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM

Held for the very second time in UET, SRP provided an ample platform for the students of UET to develop innovative prototype. The module emphasized on empowering the young children from orphanages.

This Event was held on Wednesday, 7th

March 2018 in collaboration of Care Foundation and Project Lite.

IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS

SRP was attended by more than 100 individuals.

Delegation of students from other Universities came to attend this fantastic module.

Guest Speakers, Miss Saba, personal advisor at care Foundation since 7 years and Mr. Hamad, Project manager of Project Light Foundation since 3 years addressed the occasion and enlightened us with their experience and vision.

MENSA IQ TEST

Mensa international test is an integral part of any ICE event, carried out persistently over the years by ICE. It was held on 8th

march 2018.

Mensa is the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world. It is a non-profit organization open to people who score at the 98th percentile or higher on a standardized, supervised IQ or other approved intelligence test.

CLOSING CEREMONY OF CIVCON SEASON 7A closing ceremony was arranged by ICE Student Chapter, UET Lahore on 9th March 2018. The main purpose was to recognize the winners of modules, the sponsors and to praise the efforts of every single member of ICE who worked so hard to bring out CIVCON VII. From a new inductee to very

core body of team ICE, everybody was totally engaged in preparing for this event.

PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONS

The main purpose of closing ceremony was to distribute prizes among the winners and runner-ups of all the modules. Cash prize along with shields and certificates were presented to students by the worthy guests.

The legacy of ICE is bigger and better CIVCON every year. This year again the name of CIVCON grew bigger and bigger. From modules to symposiums till closing ceremony, this event has been a tremendous success. With our versatile guests’ speakers to talented musical performances and to the rock star Bilal Saeed in the house, this evening left a mark on people’s hearts.



[email protected] GRE & IELTS MOCK TEST

ICE Student Chapter UET Lahore, in collaboration with ABN Overseas Education provides the greatest opportunity of all the time for those who are aiming to appear for GRE & IELTS by organizing a mock test for these international standardized tests. The mock test was aimed to help the students to gain an idea about the test also experience a similar type of environment which they shall encounter in real test time. The test was conducted on 30th April, 2018 at 12 pm in Main Auditorium and the resulted were later on emailed. This opened a pathway to guidance for the students aspiring for higher studies abroad.

SEMINAR ON WASHINGTON ACCORD & CAREER ABROAD

The seminar was held in collaboration with Zarnab International (Pvt.) Limited, which is one of the pioneer foreign education & immigration consultancy firm. Mr. Sajid Cheema for Zarnab International (Pvt.) Limited was the guest speaker on the

occasion of this seminar, who shared with the audience the importance and utility of

Washington Accord as well as increased and improved education opportunities abroad. The students’ response at the seminar was very promising as an urge of excellence prevails in all the students of UET.

The seminar had been an auspicious opportunity for the students of UET to gain the most recent know-how of the privileges and benefits of this international forum for

engineers which has manifold increased the ease and worth of abroad career opportunities.

FAREWELL 2018

After a great successful year, Team ICE had to say goodbye to its executive body. A farewell was arranged for this purpose at Maisonette Express Hotel, Lahore. The venue had a pleasant environment and great food which turned out to be the best place to farewell our executive body.

Students of 15 session had prepared some videos to pay tribute to ICE and its executive body. Faculty members and



[email protected] were also invited to say goodbye to the previous hierarchy and welcome the new executive body.

After the meal, there were a few advices from our Teacher Advisor Dr. Ali Ahmed and our alumni Saad Shabir. Later, there were final speeches given by the core body and the new executive body was announced.
