ICEBOLETHU NEWSThe Official Internal Newsletter of Icebolethu Group
Mentoring is important, not only because of
the knowledge and skills students can learn
from mentors, but also because mentoring
provides personal support to facilitate success
in graduate school and beyond. Quality
mentoring greatly enhances student’s chances
for success, because they have a professional
that they look up to and “answer to”. That is
how the ‘Help Her Grow’ sessions were birthed.
In the month of June, we introduced a
programme called ‘Help Her Grow’- to
straighten and solidify the sisterhood bond the
Rhoda Girls have. The Rhoda Girls only meet
bi-annually, which is why we felt that these
virtual meetings are important. ‘Help Her
Grow’ sessions feature topics like; Academics,
Social problems, Socio-economic issues, which
speaks to every girl's day to day life.
RHODA GIRLS- ‘HELP ME GROW’
Icebolethu Foundation came across a very
inspiring story on social media. A young
lady from Northern KwaZulu Natal,
Nongoma, who invested her capital to start
crop farming. She bought a small piece of
land and now supplies Spar in Nongoma
with spinach. She reached out seeking for
water tank donations, the Foundation has
donated a 5000-litre water tank and 1000
seedlings.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
Not wearing a mask at work is now a punishable offence
Failing to sanitise hands and surfaces regularly will result in disciplinary measures
Any conduct that exposes others to coronavirus due to negligence will be treated as a serious offence
It has become an expectation that when you switch on the TV or radio, reading newspapers, looking at billboards
on the road and even WhatsApp messages they are all filled with COVID19 related topics. That is what the world is
currently dealing with and it affects us the most as Icebolethu Family since we serve the public and are in the
Death care Industry.
This is the 3rd issue of our internal newsletter and I am still addressing the issue of COVID19 and its effects on
our lives and our work. I can not thank you enough for braving it out and responding to the call of duty to serve
our clients. With that being said, I also can not emphasize enough the issue of obeying the regulations and
honoring all the measures the company has put in place to fight this disease.
We have thus far put in place effective measures to ensure that we protect ourselves, our families and our clients,
from Sanitizers being made available at all branches, fumigating all branches and operational centres to other
extreme measures at funerals. Opening the economy is not time to relax the safety precautions.
Management will therefore be assessing the behaviour of all staff more closely. There will be consequences for
carelessness and misconduct that may endanger the lives of others.
All staff are to please note the following:
We are all urged to practice all the health and safety measures that have been implemented across our
organisation for the safety and welfare of our families and colleagues. Even outside of our places of work let us be
vigilant; at home, at public places and when we use public transport let us be extra careful that we remain safe.
Thank you all for serving with commitment, your efforts and dedication is greatly appreciated. Stay safe and take
care!

through an inspirational talk and a

With Lockdown regulations affecting international

on Icebolethu Funerals UK to bring the body of their

Icebolethu Funerals U.K. Manager Ms. Sne Mcoyi
handled the matter effectively until the end, which
gave the family closure as they received the remains
on Wednesday the 3rd of June. This was another
milestone in the life of our organisation, showing

When mam' Nomfundo started the Rhoda Girls
programme, she wanted to mentor young girls and to
help them grow in every aspect of their lives. Due to
lockdown our annual sessions like camps are on hold.
So to keep us connected and guided, Sis’ Zama, our
Foundation Manager introduced the "Help Her Grow"
sessions. Every Wednesday we have a virtual meeting
where we talk about different topics that contribute to
every aspect in our lives.
Our first session focused on Career choices where our
tertiary sisters who are also Rhoda Girls were able to
enlighten those who are still in high school about the
different career choices. Even though I am already in
university, that session helped me to decide what
qualification I will pursue for my Post-Grad. The
second session we had Dr. S Chonco who spoke to us
about our mental health. Personally this helped me
realise that it’s okay to express your emotions and
talk about things, it is NOT an indication that you are
weak. It also cleared stigmas that were around mental
health. Our last session that we had was about GBV
with Anelile Dlamini – Gibixego which is a very
important topic considering what is happening in our
country, over 25 women and kids have been murdered
in June alone.
It taught us even about the different scenarios that
one can encounter in their lives and what one should
do. Having lost a close friend through GBV last year
this session taught me the warning signs to look out
for and also how to help a person who has been
violated. It taught me that as women in South Africa
it's crucial that we support each other.
Thank you to Icebolethu Funerals for
helping me give my dad a dignified funeral.
Their service was excellent. When my dad
passed away in hospital, I called them and
within 30 minutes they went to fetch him, I
went to them on a Monday and asked that
the funeral be on Wednesday and they said
it can be done. Everything I asked for they
never said it can’t be done, they would make
calls to see how they can do it, everything
happened with minimal effort from my side
and it made my life so much better because
I only had 2 days to plan everything. The
day before the funeral the people were just
calling me saying they are there for the
tent, the cow, the dishes. On the morning of
the funeral, Lwazi from Icebolethu Mega
City was at home to make sure that
everything was going well, the decor and
everything. Icebolethu Catering people came
on time and the food was exactly what I
asked for. The service was great and it just
eased the burden of an already difficult
time. Thank you to Lwazi from Icebolethu
Mega City. Thank you again to everyone
who supported us.

GOD KEEPS THE RECORD
To face a storm is a VERY difficult thing, but to face it alone It's even worse. To the
staff of Icebolethu Group we want to say you have been a shelter in the storm. You're
not just the Essential workers, you became the Essential of the Essential services. You
didn't experience the Lockdown like the rest of the world, because the frontline duties
were screaming in your ears. You leave families that are anxious about your wellbeing,
to go and face families that are angry, sad and more anxious, but you still go anyway.
Being in the frontline means being more vulnerable and more exposed, but you look
beyond yourselves and stretched beyond the call of duty. You face clients and bury
people, some died of COVID19 related illness, you are serving the nation and your
names will be remembered among those that stood in the frontline to fight this disease.
Covid19 is a Global rough season and a monster that is facing all of us, but you
became our heroes, not by choice but by calling. You became an Oasis in this long
Desert. We're not sure when It's gonna end, but we're sure of your presence. We as
people might forget your efforts and sacrifices but God will see you through. As I
always say in my talks, when people forget the good you've done, Remember God keeps
the record.
May the good Lord bless you all Icebolethu Family.
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENTBy: Pastor Thomas Radebe
ICEBOLETHU EVENTSUPDATEBy: Futhi Nzama & Clive Gumede
Events Department
Icebolethu Family is known as one of the hardest
working organisations; committed, efficient and
does everything with excellence. It is for this
reason that we have a busy Annual Calendar of
events where management shows gratitude to staff,
these events are also a form of Team Building
where we come together as AmaCebo Amahle to
connect and build stronger relations. Amongst the
many get-togethers that we have, there are 3
flagship events that we have come to look forward
to; Family Day, Sports and the glamorous Annual
Gala Dinner.
Due to lockdown we have already lost on Family
Day, it is still not clear whether we will be able to
have our Sports Day. Management and the Events
Department will keep a close eye to lockdown
regulations and be able to update the family. The
same thing applies with the Gala Dinner too, we are
progressing with caution not to commit to such a
big event risking it to be cancelled on the eleventh
hour due to Lockdown.
"Management and the
Events Department will
keep a close eye to
lockdown regulations
and be able to update the
family..."
Let us keep our spirits high for now, continue to
serve our clients, practise COVID19 safety
measures and be there for our families. Should
lockdown be extended, the events team will find
other ways to keep us connected and have fun
together as AmaCebo Amahle.
