INTRODUCTION

In this project of 2 students in a group, we are told to initiate a small

construction in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus and to use a

land size area of not to be more than 30mx30m anywhere on

campus ground.

As we have decided to construct a study enhancement area for

the students other than other options we have given according to

the brief. And so, for this project, we are going to construct a 15m x

15m size area which will be located at the open space between

BLOCK B and BLOCK C in the campus. As a group we are suppose

to produce a full report on the types of building development such

as follows :

- Suggestions

- Rationale

- Benefits

- Site analysis

- Costing and evaluation

- The needs for community and client etc.

SUGGESTION AND PROPOSAL

As the chosen site is between BLOCK C and BLOCK D in the

campus, we have decided to propose to build a 24/7 study

enhancement area.

This study enhancement area is specially for the dance students

who do not have a place to rehearse as they are always practicing

in front of the STUDENT LIFE CENTRE entrance. Therefore, it is very

unpleasant to see them practicing in front of the STUDENT LIFE

CENTRE tempered glass by looking at their reflections. In this study

enhancement area there will be :

- Fully furnished air-conditioned room

- Acoustic panels to make the room soundproof

- Mirror in the dancing room

- Tables and chairs for students to come study in the study

area.

- Wi-Fi facility

RATIONAL AND BENEFITS

Based on a lot of reviews from students that we have collected,

they have commented a lot on proposing to do a combination of

study area and dancing rehearse room for the both students from

other programmes and the dance faculty.

Since a lot of us are always busy with a lot of assignments and well

they will and up rushing, this study enhancement area provides

them to do their work or assignments well and also provide a

conducive environment for the dance students to practice.

BENEFITS

Dancing studio room can provide a better learning space for

students of dancing clubs.

This room is better for them to learn their dances as it is an

enclosure which also provides privacy for students so that they

can concentrate on their practices.

It also contains a wall mirror for them to check on their posture

when dancing to improve themselves during practice.

Dance also offers an activity for people who may not consider

themselves as ‘sporty’.

The study area is an area that has positivity that makes

students to study better.

The 24/7 room is provided to increase the amount of 24 hours

study area in the university for students.

The 24/7 room will have soothing music to motivate those who

are studying there.

They can feel more relaxed while doing their work

SITE ANALYSIS

The site that is selected to construct this 24/7 Study Room is

located at the open space between BLOCK B and BLOCK C in

the campus.

We have decided to take up the whole space as the size area is

just nice to build this 24/7 study enhancement room.

Since the ground of the site is very uneven as it is elevated to a

height of 1m, a flat foundation to support the entire construction

will be built. Based on analysis that have been carried out are :

Picture 1 refers to the overview of the chosen site. As displayed in

the picture, the red box refers to total measurement of our chosen

site which 15mx15m. Hence, the study enhancement area will be

located exactly into how the position of the red box is. Going

towards BLOCK B is to the right and to BLOCK C is to the left.

Picture 2 refers to the front view of the site, as you can see, there is

a 1m, elevated flooring ( black arrow in picture ). To make even,

the flooring will be rebuilt by raising the floor as to become same

level with the cement flooring as shown.

CONCEPT Given that a study enhancement area is an area just to study. For

this project it will not be a room for just studying. It is collaborated

with also a dance room. Therefore, the study room will be in the

front and the dance room will be behind it.

Page 18: ICI FINAL PROJECT REPORT

18

As referring to so many research in the internet, we have decided

to combine these two types of learning area in to a single room.

Since there is always been only a single study room filled with chairs

and tables, we have decided to do a 2 in 1 study area room.

The main concept as mentioned might not be a good idea but

then, referring to make more different will be more sophisticated in

order to know that the campus has a 2 in 1 study area room.

MATERIALS EXPLAINATION

1. , 2. – ACOUSTIC CEILING AND

WALL PANELS

These panels will be located in the

surrounding of the dance room as

to prevent any music or loud sound

to interrupt the study area in the

front.

3. , 4. – Tempered glass door

and window

These materials are all used for the

study area room, as for the entry

and exit. The windows will be

transparent so that students do not

feel too secluded.

5. Wooden tables and chairs This type of furniture is good to use

as it is solid and very convenient it is

very long and can accommodate

at least 3 students in one table.

6. Carpet flooring Carpets will be easy to walk in and

out and also easy to clean as, it can

be just vacuumed.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, by proposing this study room in this unused area will

eventually attracts the attention of students especially dancing

students in Taylor’s University. In our proposal site, there will be three

compartment in our study enhancement area which are the

combination of study room with the discussion room, presentation

room and last but not least the dancing studio. This study area will

be very convenient for the students as this is 3 in 1 where students

can just choose to go to whichever study room they prefer.

The main focus of building this 3 in 1 study enhancement area is to

provide a dancing studio for the dancers as we can always see

them practicing in front of the STUDENT LIFE CENTRE tempered glass

by looking at their reflections. Most of the time they only practice

starting from late night which is very unfair for them.

Page 25: ICI FINAL PROJECT REPORT

25

Therefore, we decided to build this study area which also includes

a dancing studio. This dancing studio has acoustic panels

surrounding them so that they do not cause any disturbance to the

study rooms beside them during practice. This 3 in 1 area also

contains a presentation room which helps in students presentation

work. This proposal will definitely bring benefits to every students

especially dancing students and also students that do their revision

overnight as we had increase the amount of 24/7 study room.
