Project Description

In this final project of the Introduction to the Construction Industry, a group of two students are required to find a specific empty land in order to initiate a small construction project. The size of the land should be between (30m x 30m) to (30m x 40m).

Each of us are required to propose a project that serves as either a recreation area, commercial area, industrial area, agriculture area, tourism area, or a residential area.

At the end of this project, we are enable to develop an understanding of team building, our organization, duties and inter-relations within which we will seek employment, career progression or further study. Furthermore, we developed an awareness of our professional responsibilities and appreciate our profession in the construction industry.

Introduction To The Site

We have chosen our site, an empty land which is located right in front of the DK Senza condominium complex and 700m away from the Taylor's University Lakeside Campus.

While on the site, we measured 30m by 30m of the empty land and took pictures of our chosen site. We have observed and analyzed the measured area of the empty land.

Site Analysis and Observation

DK Senza Condominium

(30m x 30m) of empty land

A site analysis was conducted and showed that the site is:

1. Located next to a residential area.

2. Situated near a University.

3. Close to many parking lots.

4. Has a large open space.

5. Quite dirty, construction materials can be found everywhere.

THE PROPOSAL

For the proposal part, we decided to propose 2 proposal that is:

Proposal A – Recretional Area (Atiqah Syasya Janathan)

Proposal B – Commercial Area (Abdul Qayyum Shahmie)

Suggestion and Proposal (A) by Atiqah Syasya Janathan

It is hereby that I propose to build a recreation area on the 30m by 30m of the chosen site of the empty land.

There would be an entrance walkway to the recreation area which is designed specially that adapts a greenery landscape. A decorative landscape would be implemented on this recreation area.

I suggest that a man-made pond alongside an artificial waterfall are to be build in the center of this recreation area. This would include decorative water features and aquatic animals. There would be a small bridge, build to cross over the pond.

Furthermore, a jogging track and a cycling track are to be constructed, encircling the man-made pond and artificial waterfall.

A well equipped playground would be developed for the children to play at. In addition to that, a picnic and a barbeque area would be provided. Gazebos and benches would also be provided around the picnic and barbeque area.

Above all, this site would serve as a recreation area.

Concept and Ideas of Proposal

The pathway or walkway to the entrance of the recreation area would have a decorative and greenery landscape, with stepping

stones.

A playground will be provided for the children to play at.

The man-made pond and the artificial waterfall would not exceed 30m x 30m. Various types of trees, bushes and flowers would be encircling the pond, and also aquatic plants and animals.

A small bridge would be built that crosses over the pond. Visitors may have a closer look to the aquatic animals and also get a chance to feed the fishes.

Jogging and cycling tracks would be developed, encircling the pond. Visitors may use the tracks to carry out physical activities such as walking, jogging, running or cycling.

Gazebos would be built around the recreation area as a resting or socializing place for the visitors.

Picnic and barbeque areas will be provided around the recreation area. This would be a great place for friends and family gatherings.

Sketch Plan of Proposal

Rational and Benefits

The location of this site to construct a recreation area is considered strategic; parking spaces in the DK Senza Condominium and the Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. Therefore, it is more convenient for the public to access this recreation area.

Since this recreation area is to be built nearby the DK Senza Condominium and the Taylor's University Lakeside Campus, this would be beneficial to the residents and students as this would

encourage them to initiate physical activities that they can carry out at the recreation area and to promote a healthier lifestyle.

In addition to that, a recreation area is a great place to gather and bond, not just for families, friends and neighbors, but also a great chance for people to meet and make friends with new people.

Aside from that, recreation areas play a key role in preserving water and air quality, protecting the wildlife, and contributes to the environmental health.

Another equally important aspect, recreation areas make the place desirable to live, work, play and visit.

Suggestion and Proposal (B) by Abdul Qayyum Shahmie

After doing my research of what is important to daily life, i decided to build a commercial area that is the grocery store on that chosen 30m by 30m empty land.

As a student, its hard to earn money and that’s why it is encouraged for the student to spend wisely on the daily basis.

Getting cheap food, groceries, and daily needs is very important to the student.

Since the commercial area that is the grocery store is going to be build on a land near to student’s area, the store will be providing very cheap groceries and daily needs. The store concept is to save money and time as alot of payments counter is provided for the grocery store so that there will be less people queing to pay.

This concept is created to attract the younger generation student as they can save money and even time in this particular store. The building will consist of 2 level that is;

- Level 1 : Shopping Area

- Level 2 : Storage

Concept and Ideas of Proposal

This is how the grocery store will looks like. F1 themed paint on the exterior to attract the students and it is as a symbol of saving time.

The inside layout is well organized as the products is divided into sections and a lot of counter’s will be provided as saving time is my

main priority for this layout.

Different section is provided inside the store to ease the consumer to single out their needs.

Small food vendor is also provided in the store to provide interesting choices of foods for the consumer.

Elevation of Proposal

Rational and Benefits

Commercial area is very crucial to today’s community economy. They provide jobs and bring money into the community. The location of this proposed building is considered a strategic place to build the commercial area (grocery store) as it is located near the Taylor’s lakeside campus (student area), PJS 7 (housing area) and sells daily needs to the public.

It is more convenience for the student to do the groceries shopping as the proposed building is 5 minutes walk from the Taylor’s lakeside campus. The students also can spend wisely and enjoy cheap price for groceries from the proposed building.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, from this project brief we know building something is not easy because you have to do your research and examine the land you have whether its near to the resident area, student area and so on. After the research is done, then we can continue with proposing the area/building that we want to build.

One thing we learned about construction is that it requires a lot of work from the proposal towards the final end of the construction. There will be a lot of people going to be involved even if it’s a small scale projects.
