ICOMSEEBoardMeeting2014,Celje,SloveniaInviewoftheICOMSlovenia’sactivepartnershipinICOMSEEregionalprojects,inMarchthisyearitishostingitsboardmeet-ing,whichistotakeplaceattheMuseumofRecentHistoryCeljeundertheleadershipofTanjaRoženbergar,directorofthemuseumandthepresidentofICOMSlovenia.Theaimofthemeetingistodevelopastrategicworkingplanforthethirdphaseofthelong-termregionalprojectRevitalisationofCulturalandNatu-ralHeritageinSouthEastEurope(until2015)thatwillculminateinthethirdregionalconference.

ThisprojectICOMSEE–aregionalallianceforSouthEastEurope–wasinitiatedatthefirstICOMSEEconferenceinKladovo,Serbiain2006,andhassincebeenevolvingonthebasisofacomprehensiveandsustainableheritageconservationconceptofpre-ventivecareintheSEEregion.ThesecondphasewasconcludedbythesecondICOMSEEregionalconferenceonthethemeofRiskAssessmentofCulturalandNaturalHeritageintheSouthEastEuropeRegioninNiš,Serbiain2012.

TheCOMCOL’s4thannualconferencewillbeheldinCelje,Sloveniafrom3-6Decem-ber2014.ThethemeoftheconferenceisCollectingandcollectionsintimesofwarorpoliticalandsocialchange.TheconferencewillbehostedbytheMuseumofRecentHistoryCeljeanditsSchoolofMuseologyundertheauspicesoftheICOMSloveneNationalCommitteeandtheMinistryofCultureofSlovenia.

COMCOLisanICOMInternationalCommitteeforcollectingthatpromotesdiscussionandthesharingofknowledgeonthepractice,theoryandethicsofcollectingand(tan-gibleandintangible)collectionsdevelopment.Itrepresentsaplatformfortheprofes-sionalexchangeofviewsandexperienceconcerningcollectinginthebroadestsense.

ThethreepreviousCOMCOLconferencesaddressedsuchtopicsas:Participa-tiveStrategiesinDocumentingthePresent(Berlin,2011);MuseumsandtheIdeaofHistoricalProgress(CapeTown,2012)andTheRe-interpretationandRe-usageofOlderCollectionsandtheirValueforContemporarySociety(RiodeJaneiro,2013).TheCOMCOL2014conferenceinSloveniawillexplorethethree-wayrelationshipbetweenideology,theinstitutionalmissionandcollectionprofiles,emphasisinghowchanges

inpoliticalideologiesandregimescanimpactmuseummissionsandtowhatextentcollec-tionprofilescanadapttonewmissions,whichwillbeillustratedbydifferenttheoreticalviewsandcontemporaryexamples.

FollowinganinitiativebyICOMSerbia,themainorganiseroftheconferencetobeheldinSerbiain2014,ICOMSloveniawillplayanactiveroleattheconference(bygivingpresentations)alongwithotherICOMnationalcommitteesfromtheregion(Croatia,BosniaandHerzegovina,FYRMacedonia,andMontenegro).UnderthethemeofCul-turalTourismtheconferencewillbeanopportunitytoshareanddiscusschallengingissueswithexpertsfromtheregioninordertohighlightthepresentandfutureofmu-seumsandtourismthroughtheconsiderationofimportanttopicssuchas:theneedtodevelopbettercommunicationandcollaborationbetweenmuseumsandthetourismsectorintheregion;criteriafortourismproducts;andsustainabilityissuesoftourismvs.heritagesites.

Workshops:RiskAssessmentforMuseumCollectionsFormorethansevenyears,ICOMSloveniahasbeeninvolvedinaspecialeducationalprogrammeofTIEMworkshops(TeamworkforIntegratedEmergencyManagement)aimedatemergencymanagementinmuseums.TheseweredevelopedwithintheframeworkofICOMSEEprojectRevitalisationofCulturalandNaturalHeritageinSouthEastEurope.

InSlovenia,aseriesofTIEMworkshopsfocusingonthepractice,implementationandtransferoftheprinciplesofriskassessmentformuseumcollectionshavealreadybeenorganisedbyICOMSloveniaincooperationwiththeMuseumAssociationofSlovenia,andledbySlovenemuseumexpertsinthefield.In2014thesetrainingcoursesandcapacitybuildingforthepromotionofheritagecon-servationwillcontinuetotakeplacebecauseofthegreatinterestshownbymanySlovenemuseums.

SummerSchoolofMuseologyPiran,June2014TheICOMSloveniageneratesknowledgebydevelopingandparticipatingintrainingandeducationalprogrammesforSlovenemuseologists,museumprofessionalsandstudents.Accordingly,since2004,ICOMSloveniahassuc-cessfullycontributedtotheSummerSchoolofMuseology,whichisheldinthecoastaltownofPiran.In2014theSum-merSchoolofMuseologyisbeingorganisedbyFacultyofHumanitiesattheUniversityofPrimorska.Ontheoccasionofthisyear’sSchoolofMuseologyinPirantheICOMSlov-eniawillparticipatebypresentingitslatestachievementsandbycontributingthematiclectures.

Slovenia’smuseumsadoptthethemeof“museumcollec-tionsmakeconnections”.Duringtheweekof18Mayeachyear,numerousmuseumsinSloveniatakepartinthecelebrationofInternationalMu-seumDaywiththeValvasorMuseumAwardsandaseriesofeventsfocusingonavarietyofprogrammesthatmakemuseumsmoreattractivetothepublic.

In2014,ICOMSloveniawillpresentforthesecondtimeitsawards.ThecallforapplicationswillbemadeinMay2014ontheoccasionofthecelebrationoftheInternationalMuseumDay.

InOctober2013,ICOMSloveniapresentedforthefirsttimeitsawardstoSlovenemuseums,aimedatencouraging,popular-isingandpromotingtheinternationalnetworkingoftheideasandactivitiesofSlovenemuseums.Atthesametime,ICOMSloveniaawardsareintendedtopromotetheannualInterna-tionalMuseumDaytheme(chosenbyICOMonagloballevel)atSlovenemuseums.
