Character Traits: Compassion and Responsibility Class Verse: Rom. 12:9-10 “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.” Projects/Skills: In fourth grade we are busy preparing for our annual play, “The Case of the Missing Parts of Speech” that will be performed on May 22nd. It is a wonderful adventure that

culminates our learning of the eight parts of speech using a cute play with songs. In Social Studies we will wrap up the year doing brochures about Famous Virginians, using Word Publisher in the computer lab. Symmetry pictures grace the hallway outside our classroom as we finished a unit in Geometry. Last but not least, in literature we are reading the book, Shiloh and learning to use God’s Word as our standard for living. Fourth graders are seeing that just as Daniel in the Scriptures purposed in his heart to do what was right, they too can make wise choices by following God’s Word. Prayer Requests: Please pray for 4A as we bring this year to an end that they will finish well. Pray that they will continue to strive to work hard and prepare for fifth grade. Compassion is something fourth graders can always work on, so we thank you for praying for us in this area as well while we work on our relationships with each other.

5A – Miss Christi LeFevre, Teacher; Mrs. Katie Deering, Teaching Assistant Character Traits: Diligence and Integrity Class Verse: “He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ.” –Ephesians 1:9 Projects/Skills: The fifth graders will be working on memorizing their parts/lines, getting costumes, using props/effects, etc. for the Julius Caesar play at the end of May. This is a big undertaking! The students are also preparing their own personal devotionals to share with the class, in order to help them grow in expressing their faith, making oral presentations, and working with a partner. Prayer Requests: Please pray that all of the details come together smoothly for the Julius Caesar play, that the students will memorize their parts easily, and that everyone learns some good lessons about loyalty vs. betrayal through this play. Pray that the students will take their devotional writing opportunity seriously and will then grow in their faith/boldness through the experience. The fifth graders really need prayer to stay motivated to do their best on every assignment; pray against laziness as the end of the school year approaches.

Middle School Science – Mrs. Kate Alvarado, Teacher Character Traits: Discernment and Inquisitiveness in exploring the world around them Class Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Psalm 19:1 Projects/Skills: 8th Grade: Electricity & Wave Unit; 7th Grade: Human Body Unit; 6th Grade: Earthquakes and Volcanoes Prayer Requests: For students to enjoy and recognize the mysteries of creation around them, that speak to the love and wisdom of their Heavenly Father. Seeing the designs, patterns and laws as evidence of God’s pleasure in our inquisitive and wondering minds. 7th grade has their Potomac River Boat Field Trip coming up on May 14th and 15th. Pray for safety and pleasant weather. In 6th grade as we discuss natural disasters, may the students feel compassion with those suffering and not have fear but a desire for understanding that can lead to helping those in need around us.

Middle School Math, Mrs. Ferrell & Mrs. Pate, Teachers

Character Traits: Diligence

Class Verse: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23

Projects/Skills: This quarter, General Math and Pre-Algebra students are focusing on the study of Geometry. Algebra students are working on mastering exponential, radical, and rational functions. The 8th Grade Geometry class is studying spacial reasoning and circles. As the year comes to a close, all math classes will review second semester material in preparation for final exams.

Prayer Requests: Please pray for the students to remain focused as the end of this school year approaches, that their time will continue to be well spent and that they will persevere in their studies. May God enable them to prepare well for their final exams.

Please pray for appropriate math placement of all middle school students, and for the teachers as they make these decisions. We thank God for the safety of our students and our school throughout this year.
