MARKET CONDITION Last year, India sold 15.5 million cycles, about the same as the previous
year and the year before. Cycle makers in the US sold about 18 million
bikes in 2012 but those in China produced more than 80 million bikes in
the same year. But while a slowing economy has led to a slight decline
in mass market or utility cycles, the premium segment—touring,
mountain and racing cycles--is growing, thanks to increased health
consciousness in its people. http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2014-02-22/news/47581724_1_premium-bikes-carbon-fibre-firefox-bikes
Today, an emerging category of professionals in the uppermiddle and
high-income groups is giving a fresh impetus to the ₹2,000-crore cycling
industry in India. Their reasons range from health to hobby, and from
ecofriendliness to stress-free commutes. http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/blink/work/bicycle-bells-and-whistles/article6268124.ece

GREAT MALNAD CHALLENGE
SBI Great Malnad Challenge (GMC) is an MTB bicycle challenge which is into its 6th edition this year. SBI-GMC had a very modest beginning in 2010 with only 22 over-zealous cyclists. We have come a long way since – what started off as a competitive yet not-rewarded challenge has now shaped into an enviable event and pegged to be the biggest and most challenging MTB bicycle ride in South India with multiple categories and attractive rewards. Our event in the past years has been sponsored by elite banks such as State Bank Of India (Title Sponsors) and Tirumala Constructions (Title Sponsors). We have had partners such as Giant-Starkenn, Wildcraft, Deccan Chronicle, Fever 104 FM, and KSRTC among others.
“The bicycle ride that got me in long distance cycling. GMC was an awesome experience and I hope more and more cyclists experience the scenic beauty of the Western Ghats on their cycles. I look forward to the day when I can be a MENTOR CYCLIST in GMC”
– Charan Sadashivan, Editor, Times of India
“I had never imagined Karnataka to be so beautiful. From Madikeri to Sakleshpur to Kudremukh to Marwanthe, the GMC helped me see the beauty of Malnad. Very professionally organized event and I with the GMC and ICYCLE team a great future”
– Govindarajulu Seshachalam, Director, CISCO
“Cycling is very popular in Netherlands. The whole family goes out cycling there. I wish the same thing happens here too. The events like Great Malnad Challenge helps people enjoy cycling and I'm sure this will go a long way in making bicycle popular in our Country”
ICYCLE has a tie-up with the Horticulture Department of Karnataka, where ICYCLE provides bicycles for rent at Nandhi hills and Lalbagh
GMC has the patronage of KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) and also KSTDC (Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation)
