• NIMS is a governmental research institution
• It carries out fundamental research and generic/infrastructural technology research and development in the field of materials science
• 3 sites (Sengen, Namiki, Sakura) in Tsukuba, Japan
• 8 R&D divisions
• 1000 researchers / 1500 staff
• 1657 papers per year
• Annual budget: About 21.6 billion yen (FY 2016)
