Executive SummaryOur primary tasks as PR and Marketing partners for Idaho Gives were two-fold. First, it was our responsibility to refresh and grow the Idaho Gives brand with creative elements that could be used in a variety of media to reach different segments of our target audiences. The second element of our work was to get the message into the hands of the general public.

THE STRATEGY

We have included in this report sample clippings from the campaign, but we estimate that we were able to get approximately 200 stories placed online, on the air, and in print over the course of the campaign. We also coordinated interviews and played a critical go-between role between Idaho Gives and reporters when local news organizations grew increasingly attentive as May 1 neared.

for links to all tracked news pieces, visit this Google Spreadsheet.

We were also successful in placing PSA’s on radio and television in all the major media markets and had luck convincing even those outlets who weren’t sponsors to provide some pro-bono air time. Considering nearly half of all visitors to IdahoGives.org came directly to the site, we feel confident that the PR and earned media efforts through traditional outlets proved fruitful.

In addition to traditional media, Strategies 360 managed all social media efforts. We grew the Idaho Gives Facebook audience using both paid and primarily organic tactics and now have 3,683 followers. We post-ed regularly to Twitter and worked diligently to grow our presence there by following influential “Tweeters” and by reaching out to news organizations. As you will see in the attached report, we were able to get help from many high-profile Idahoans and Idaho organizations. The sample list we have provided (a fraction of the overall activity) got our messages out to more than 195,000 people.

The final piece of the communications/outreach strategy was to work to get help from Idaho businesses, business organizations and associations, and community leaders to spread the word about Idaho Gives to their employees, customers, vendors, members, and supporters.

THE SUCCESS

While this report details many great results, it’s nearly impossible to capture every mention of Idaho Gives online, on the air, in print, and around water coolers across Idaho. We were, once again, immensely proud of this effort and of the amazing results produced by all members of the Idaho Gives team.

On May 7, 2014, Idaho donors gave $782,862 to 660 nonprofit causes across the state, bringing total con-tributions since the inception of Idaho Gives in 2013 to over a million dollars.

Idaho Nonprofits Can Now Register for 2014 “Idaho Gives” Hundreds of Nonprofit Organizations Expected to Participate

(BOISE) – The Idaho Nonprofit Center will once again shine the spotlight on Idaho’s nonprofits and help raise needed funds by hosting the 2nd Annual “Idaho Gives,” a day of statewide charitable giving, on May 1, 2014. Registration is now open for nonprofits wishing to participate in this year’s event.

Last year, in its debut, Idaho Gives raised nearly $580,000 for more than 500 charitable causes. All nonprofits must register with the Idaho Nonprofit Center once again this year to be eligible to raise money as part of the one-day charitable giving bonanza. Nonprofits should log on to www.idahononprofits.org to register.

Modeled after highly successful giving days in states and cities across the country, Idaho Gives engages people with their favorite nonprofits using a combination of traditional and new media. Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are critical tools in getting people, even those who don’t regularly give to nonprofits, to quickly and easily make a donation to their favorite organization(s). Facebook and Twitter drove much of the traffic to the Idaho Gives site in 2013.

At idahogives.org, donors can learn about and designate funds for nonprofits in a number of categories, includ-ing arts & culture, children & youth, environment, humanitarian aid, education, animals, and religious organiza-tions. Event sponsors have thus far contributed $35,500 for a prize pool, which will be distributed to nonprofits through random drawings and daylong contests, allowing organizations and donors to multiply their donations.

The Idaho Nonprofit Center encourages any nonprofit with an IRS-certified 501(c)(3) designation to participate. Nonprofit organizations in the Treasure Valley who would like to learn more about participating in Idaho Gives are invited to attend one of the following informational sessions:

March 7, 2014 – Meridian Open House: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the Idaho Central Credit Union Meridian Branch located at 1615 S. Celebration.

March 14, 2014 – Boise Open House: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the Idaho Central Credit Union Downtown Boise Branch located at 200 N. 4th St.

Idaho Gives is being sponsored by Idaho Central Credit Union, PacificSource Health Plans, and the Idaho Na-tional Laboratory. For more information, go to www.idahogives.org, or look for Idaho Gives on Facebook and Twitter.

Idaho Nonprofit Center Announces Prizes for Idaho Gives 2014 Nonprofits Across Idaho Can Share in a Pool of $48,000 Raised for Awards

(BOISE) –Generous sponsors have donated $48,000 for this year’s Idaho Gives awards pool, offering nonprofits an addi-tional $10,000 more than last year in prize money that they can potentially access, in addition to the donations they receive on that day. Nonprofit organizations who participate in Idaho Gives can win a share of this extra money in a variety of ways, based on both competitive and random factors.

“We are so pleased to have such a large prize pool to give away, providing nonprofits an additional incentive to participate in and actively promote this single day of giving on May 1,” said Janice Fulkerson, Executive Director of the Idaho Non-profit Center. “The prize pool is another way to not only inject some fun and a bit of friendly competition into Idaho Gives, but really motivate nonprofits large and small to showcase the great and vital work that they do.”

Similar to last year, awards will be given to those nonprofits that gather the most donors in support of their efforts, and thus end up at the top of their respective “scoreboards.” Organizations are divided into small, medium, and large categories for this award, and the top eight places will receive award money from $250 to $2,500 each, depending on where they place.

Also back this year are the “Golden Ticket” drawings, which will occur throughout the day. These drawings carry a $1,000 award. Each hour between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., a donor’s name will be randomly selected and the nonprofit they sup-ported will receive the prize.

New this year are three special “5x5 Golden Ticket” drawings that will award $500 to 5 nonprofits (one in each of the five pre-defined regions). The first “5x5” drawing will occur between 12:00 p.m. and 12:59 p.m.(MST), the second between 5:00 p.m. and 5:59 p.m. and the final between 8:00 p.m. and 8:59 p.m.

Finally, “Donor Appreciation” awards of $250 will go out for every 500 donations. Similar to the “Golden Ticket” drawings, these awards will go to the nonprofit organization that the 500th donation supported. There is no limit to these awards—a prize will be given for every 500th donation made on May 1.

Nonprofits must sign up with the Idaho Nonprofit Center by April 10th to be eligible to raise funds through Idaho Gives, and win these awards. The Center hopes to build on the success of last year’s inaugural, statewide giving blitz, which raised nearly $600,000 for hundreds of nonprofits in a 24-hour period.

The award pool includes generous donations from the following:

  “Idaho Gives” Gains Momentum In 2nd Year With More Than 660 Causes to Support;

New Celebrity PSA Released to Promote Charitable Giving on May 1 (BOISE) – Donors who give on “Idaho Gives” day on May 1 will have more than 560 nonprofit organizations with more than 660 causes to choose from when they make their charitable donations. Organizers say that marks a 35% increase in nonprofit participation this year.

“We are very excited that that so many organizations returned for Idaho Gives this year, and that a huge number of new nonprofits have signed up to join in this great day for Idaho,” said Janice Fulkerson, Executive Director of the Idaho Nonprofit Center, which is presenting the event. “There’s a nonprofit cause for every passion. Donors will find organizations and causes from arts and culture to youth development and everything in between!”

The Idaho Nonprofit Center has again lined up some star power to call attention to Idaho Gives. A newly re-leased public service announcement (PSA) features various notable Idaho personalities urging Idahoans to give generously: Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong, writer Anthony Doerr, musician Muzzie Braun, film director Michael Hoffman, NFL Quarterback Kellen Moore, Olympic gold medalist Stacy Dragila, and Mayors from across Idaho. The video can be seen here: http://youtu.be/D6vuinwPBEQ Last year, Idaho Gives raised more than $575,000 for 541 nonprofit causes across Idaho. Modeled after highly successful giving days in other states and cities, the organizers hope to see a similarly successful second year event, in terms of increased donations. The event mostly takes place online, driven by a central idahogives.org web site, where donors can learn about and designate funds for nonprofits in a variety of categories. Corporate and individual donors have contributed additional money for a pool of award funds, which will be distributed to nonprofits through random drawings and daylong contests, allowing organizations and donors to multiply their donations.

Idaho Gives allow nonprofits to elevate their profile, expand their online and social media presence, call attention to the work they’re doing, and raise critical funds.

Idaho Gives is sponsored by Idaho Central Credit Union, PacificSource Health Plans and the Idaho National Laboratory. For more information, go to www.idahogives.org, or look for Idaho Gives on Facebook and Twitter.

(BOISE) – Hundreds of Idaho nonprofits and donors came together to raise nearly $780,000 yesterday, during the 2nd Annual Idaho Gives event, a 34% increase from last year. In just 24-hours, 7,566 donors logged on to www.idahogives.org to make donations to their favorite charities. Many donors chose to support multiple orga-nizations, altogether making more than 12,000 donations.

In addition to the money raised directly from individual donors, the Idaho Nonprofit Center awarded nearly $50,000 to participating organizations over the course of the day. The nearly $780,000 reflects individual dona-tions and the award dollars.

“We are overjoyed with the success of Idaho Gives 2014, knowing that these dollars mean so much for organi-zations across our great state,” said Janice Fulkerson, Executive Director of the Idaho Nonprofit Center, which presented the event. “We are grateful for the overwhelming generosity of Idahoans. Guest Opinion: What If We All Gave to Nonprofits on A Single Day?

Janice Fulkerson

If there’s one thing that unites the many diverse areas of Idaho, it is a strong sense of community and a pervasive spirit of generosity. Our notable quality of life is attributable, in no small part, to the fact that we in Idaho tend to look out for one another. Last May, Idahoans made history, and a big difference, in donating nearly $600,000 to more than 500 nonprofit causes in a 24-hour period for the inaugural Idaho Gives. In presenting the first state-wide charitable giving day, the Idaho Nonprofit Center knew that people in every corner of Idaho would step up, and indeed they did. We’re counting on that same spirit of generosity once again this year, when we celebrate Idaho Gives on Thursday, May 1. One of most exciting elements of Idaho Gives is the diversity of causes that benefit from the day; in fact, this year, you’ll have the opportunity to give to more than 650 causes. There’s a nonprofit cause for every passion. Donors will find organizations working in arts and culture, youth development and everything in between. Hundreds of nonprofits are eager to introduce themselves to you and share the good news about how they’re making a differ-ence in your community. In fact, many of the 6000+ donors from last year gave to multiple organizations, includ-ing groups that they hadn’t given to before but had discovered and chosen to support thanks to Idaho Gives.

As we celebrate nonprofits on May 1, it’s important to point out some distinctive trends in the nonprofit sector. One of the marks of a great state is its rate of volunteerism, and ours is (not surprisingly) quite high. According to Volunteering in America, more than 425,000 Idahoans volunteered in 2012, giving over 58 million hours of service, or the work equivalent of almost 28,000 jobs. If a dollar value were to be placed on these donated hours, it would be the equivalent of $1.2 billion added to the gross state product. This should be a source of pride for all who volunteer to make our communities stronger.

With such high rates of volunteerism, you might wonder if our nonprofits truly need more financial support. The answer is an unequivocal yes. Volunteers fill a vital role for many of our state’s nonprofits; they help to extend the reach and impact of that organization’s programs. That said, without donations from supporters, the very oper-ations of the nonprofit would be in jeopardy. Staff members are needed to develop and coordinate programs to address a specific set of community needs and then recruit and manage volunteers to help carry out the work. In order for people to depend on the many programs offered by nonprofits, full-time staff is usually required, as are other operational investments like facilities.

The bottom line is that nonprofits are an essential partner in maintaining our famous quality of life, but we all must do our part to support the causes that are most personal and dear to us. It’s a great way to express our Idaho pride and invest in the organizations that make us stronger. And, did I mention it’s fun? Throughout the day, there’ll be a host of contests and prizes that would allow for your donation to go even further, with donations randomly supplemented by $250, $500 and $1000 bonus awards. Even a small contribution could turn into a $1000 gift to the organization you’re passionate about.

On May 1, Idaho Gives. Will you?
