Why is SSBG important to Idaho? Case Management:

In 2016, Idaho had 21,205 total referrals for child abuse and neglect. Of those, 8,416 were referred for investigation.

SSBG2018 will provide 3,128 children with case management services. Services include crisis intervention, community development, arrangements for alternate care, and mental health assessments.

Protective Services for Children:

In 2016, there were 1,847 victims of abuse or neglect in Idaho, a rate of 4.2 per 1,000 children.

In 2018, 493 children will receive protection services funded by the SSBG. Idaho intends to use funding to support the initial intake and safety assessments. Idaho uses a centralized intake program where they proceed to forward calls to local field offices. From there, assessments of the family and children will take place.

Protective services may also include in-home programs to prevent the children from being placed in out-of-home care, and to reduce additional threats of danger/maltreatment. These services include rigorous case management and additional assessments.

Foster Care Services for Children:

Idaho will use SSBG funds for payments to foster parents for room and board, clothing, and other costs. In addition, Idaho’s Children Mental Health Services will provide foster care to youth with mental health concerns that cannot be addressed in their home.

SSBG2018 will provide foster care services for 479 children.

Special Services for Youth at Risk:

5,298 children younger than 18 were arrested in Idaho in 2016. Violent crimes were the reason for 117 of the arrests in 2016.

In 2018, 77 children will receive special services for at risk youth, funded by the SSBG.
