Ideas for Interesting Leads
Reminders Appeal to Curiosity Interesting You do not have to use all of the information
you’re given in the lead. These are yearbook leads, not newspaper
leads. Be creative, and don’t focus too much on reporting all of the facts in the lead.
“Note to Self:”“Homecoming bonfire, bitterly cold night before
the game, Pep Club ran out of wood and drove all around town to find more, sophomore class won spirit contest for the first time in ten years, more than 600 students attended the bonfire”
Note to Self: Don’t forget to bring the
wood to the bonfire.
“Creative Definition”
Moonlight Ramble, 20-mile bike ride at night, Amy Jackson’s bike got caught on a rope barrier and threw her from the seat, she still won first place
Rope Barrier (N)- A deadly trap intended to bring a victim off his feet, and, in some cases, for the gold.
“Checklist with a Twist”
Lifeguarding, four students were lifeguards at city pool over the summer, they spent most of their time whistling for kids to stop running, all got sunburn
Sunglasses? Check. Whistle? Check. Sandals? Check. Sunscreen? Oh no…
“___+___=___”
Practicing for cross country, Caleb ran more than 500 miles over the summer, temperature over 100 degrees for nine days in a row, several runners threw up
9 days + 500 miles + some vomit here and there= a good practice
“Symptoms Include…”
One Direction concert, students stood in line for three hours to buy tickets, one student got in line 84 hours before tickets went on sale, standing room only at the concert
One Direction Syndrome: Symptoms include standing in line for 84 hours for concert tickets.
“List with a Twist”
Science experiment, students made incision in finger with a sterile lance, they collected blood on a slide, they added Fiberin to the stain and viewed it under the microscope to determine their blood type, some people made a scene about having to prick their finger in class, especially the girls
Blood, Sweat, and Tears…Not your typical science class.
