Cattle Hill Wind Farm is located on the eastern shore of Lake Echo in the southern side of the Central Plateau of Tasmania.

The project will consist of 48 Goldwind turbines and associated infrastructure.

IdentiFlight

The innovative IdentiFlight aerial monitoring and detection technology system is one of the key initiatives to mitigate Tasmanian Wedge-tailed Eagle impacts at the wind farm.

IdentiFlight’s tower-mounted optical units are designed to detect flying objects and then use algorithms to identify them as eagles. If an eagle’s speed and flight path indicate a risk of collision with a wind turbine, a signal is sent to shut down the specific wind turbine.

Community engagement

Cattle Hill Wind Farm is committed to building and maintaining relationships with the local community.

Over 25 local community organisations, initiatives and events have been sponsored during the project’s construction period, including Highlands Bushfest, Ouse Community and Highlands Alive, Melton Mowbray Rodeo, Central Hawks Football Club, amongst others.

An ongoing Community Fund will be established for the operational life of the project.
