Horror The genre horror is an intense feeling of shock and fear which affects the audience while they are watching the movie, and sometimes the fear can carry on with them in day to day events. This continuous feeling is what makes a horror movie and an amazing and highly rated because it feels realistic. Horror can be achieved in many different ways, for example: an image or character which appears very scary and disturbing to look at. This image needs to make the audience jump and feel a sense of worry or fear while looking at it. If done effective then it will make a successful horror movie. Also, another example could be a loud noise, e.g.: banging, screaming or even scary music. This alarms the audience which also gives them a sense of fear and panic. Alarming music is used in almost every horror movie because it sometimes introduces a scary event or is used to just prepare the audience and then nothing happens. This will fool the audience and then when are not ready to see something disturbing, the director is frighten them. In the genre horror, there is always a mysterious character, or a monster, demon or abnormal thing which is used to manipulate the audience and to create ultimate scare intensity. A narrative theorist named Propp who researched many different films and found that most movies have the basic hero or villain which is clear to be seen in horror movies. There is always a character that is trying to hurt or kill the main characters and the main characters are trying to stay alive and help out the wounded. If these are not obvious then these roles with unwind during the movie as some heroes can later turn into the villain by the middle or ending of the movie. In a fantastic horror movie, it is very dark and contains a lot of low key lighting to create a scary and blacked out atmosphere for the audience. This creates a more scary set because it helps the story become more realist as many people are scared of the dark and it is also hard to see in the dark so your mind can run with all your imagine with can fright you. Lighting is a very important aspect in a horror movie as it makes the set seem a lot more scarier than what it is as characters and props can fall and come into the naked eye without them knowing using hard, sudden movements.
