profession. The IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode focuses on what’s next in the
technology rather than what’s new. The student branch of Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineering-Kozhikode, has worked ever since 2013 with the
motto of –advancing technology for humanity.
We started off with this year’s activity via a general body meeting on – 3rd
February 2016, following the election of the executive committee members.

2. To conduct training programs giving exposure to new technologies, raising
the hands-on skill, extending study network while delivering value.
3. To conduct competitions on various technological arenas in order to evaluate
individual and group performances of members and fellow students.
4. To reward the performances of the members as a token of encouragement.

technical knowledge of the society.
The discussion came to an end with the above decisions; assigning duties to the
newly elected executive committee members.

A one day Arduino workshop was conducted with 80 students in Seminar hall of
GEC Kozhikode. The students were exposed to hands on training on Arduino
programming and designing their projects. The classes were handled by engineers
Arun Babu and Anjali S Goerge, the former students of GEC Kozhikode.
3rd September 2016
IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode conducted a PCB workshop organized by IEEE
Executive committee members-Adarsh K M, Rabeeh P C, Rakesh, Sanoop
Thomas, Chandana, Aswathi Y M. In this workshop the 70 participants were
taught how to design PCB using Proteus software and used this designed circuit to
implement an automated street light control system. We got many positive feed
backs and the program was a great success.
28th September 2016
As part of IEEE day celebrations 2016 the Kerala IEEE section officiated a torch
relay which was carried out for 8 days along a 700 km distance across 14 locations.
The IEEE student branch of GEC Kozhikode hosted this torch relay reception as it
was selected as one of the above locations. This torch relay reception was followed
by an entrepreneur speech by Ann Mary Wilson, the secretary of IEEE SB GEC
Kozhikode. It was followed by enlightening sessions by Sachin R Das and Juanita
Mendonza. Around 40 students from various colleges participated in this event.
15th September 2016
Celebrating Engineers day 2016 and the week of observation, the IEEE SB GEC
Calicut conducted students quiz ‘Kaleidoscope’ and enigma quiz prelims on
science and technology.20 groups participated in this event and the winners were
awarded with exciting prizes.
4th October 2016
IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode joining hands with power electronics society organized
the power quiz prelims. This was aimed to enhance the knowledge on power
related issues in our Nation. Athul Mohan bagged the first place and certificates
were awarded.
5th October 2016
KSEB quiz prelims was organized and Sachin R Das and Susmita Kavalil was
declared as winners, therefore qualifying for the state level competition. In the
state level they achieved the second place; A golden achievement for IEEE SB
GEC Kozhikode.
20th October 2016
As part of college level IEEE day celebration our IEEE SB conducted ENIGMA
quiz 2016 on history, science and technology. About 20 groups with 2 each
participated and 6 groups were selected for finals. Adarsh and Clint won the quiz
and Cash prize of Rs 2000/- was awarded.
From the inspiration received from the inter-collegiate event and robotic workshop
in ‘Tathva- 2016’@ NIT Calicut, we decided to start a robotics club for all robotic
lovers. The inauguration of Robotic society was conducted on 201/10/2016 by
principal Dr.Sheeba with the working of gesture controlled robot made by our
IEEE members.
In addition to all the above programs we have maintained an organized
membership record. We see a steady increase in members across the years and the
IEEE student branch at GEC Kozhikode is growing out and branching actively into
various technological areas.
