Business Description• Development of Science education

course modules and simulations for the advancement of conceptual understanding of thematic topics

• The modules will be down loadable, sold separately or taught through courses in professional development, on-line webinars or innovation camps

Page 3: IF Grant Summer 2013 Christine M. Yukech Science Education the University of Akron

A. Type of Product or service• The science and industry course modules will

create simulations that enhance the conceptual understanding of new innovations such as the patented hydroponic sensor and soon infrasound module. Each teachable module will center around a new technology or conceptual intellectual process. The apps and simulations expand the innovative technological science ideas and wrap special design topics to fit the moldule.

• Curriculum course modules will provide the ability to simulate data collection to enhance the data collection with animations that debunk misconceptions and give the participants the ability to reason out accurate solutions

• The modules can include pod casts and video along with other detailed ideas about the topics

Page 4: IF Grant Summer 2013 Christine M. Yukech Science Education the University of Akron

B. Current Business Structure

• The company will design resources that fit the needs of new innovative technologies and intellectual concepts

• Each module will have a programmer with background knowledge in the module topic. They will build the modules, with the simulations and applications

• The company’s website is at www.adoseofgnosis.com

Distinguished characteristics of e business or service that makes it

unique

• Technological or Product/Service advantage – the podcasts, bioscience thematic topics, simulations and apps

• IP status is at www.adoseognosis.com

Which translates to a dose of experiential knowledge or a way to process information

Page 7: IF Grant Summer 2013 Christine M. Yukech Science Education the University of Akron

C. What is the unfilled need or problem your product provides• The products teach about the practical

ideas and help participants experience the topics conceptually and in a way that debunks science misconceptions

• The module simulation allow participants to interact with the topics in a unique way by processing cause and effect in an inductive and deductive way

Hydroponic Sensor

Page 12: IF Grant Summer 2013 Christine M. Yukech Science Education the University of Akron

How does the product reduce cost and why should someone buy your product?• The hydroponic sensor for example is

designed to beat market pricing. It is only 30.00 to market.

• The modules are priced to make them more affordable and teach able to multiple types of participants from the hobbyist to the science education teacher, or student

• Webinars, and camps and professional development reduces cost to the participants

• Available via smart phone Apps• The A Dose of Gnosis website provides

innovative webinars, and downloadable apps for affordable pricing for all modules

Page 13: IF Grant Summer 2013 Christine M. Yukech Science Education the University of Akron

Market Competition• There really isn’ t a company that creates

individualized science and technology course resources through conceptual themes and simulations. There is the Khan Academy and Bozeman podcasts and the Penn State Modules. However, my company will create resources related to biotechnology related to science, technology and society. The company will market via the internet and a uniquely

• Designed website that allows for multiple versatile entities for instructions, such as one site, webinars and apps.

• See examples of Logger Pro and Crayon Physics, the Noah Project for models for the design of the apps and the ability to enter data that gets animated to help participants debunk misconceptions

Page 14: IF Grant Summer 2013 Christine M. Yukech Science Education the University of Akron

Dynamics of A Dose of Gnosis

• The simulations make learning experiential so the students can try their own understanding and reasoning skills

• The apps an simulation will not suppress natural systems and will be details enough for students to help create a social inquiry and awareness towards real world solutions

• Industry and corporate entities can utilize sustainable teaching methods that cultivate sensible management of resources and help participants understand the need to balance resources

• Adoseofgnosis will have resources and news broadcasts to promote new ways of resolving real world problems, including

topics such from the modules; Infrasound, Hydroponics, Biomimicry, Biodiverstiy, Food Chemistry, Fermentation, Field Studies, IT and Science Education conference information and published materials and science resources

Example of Hydroponic Module topics

Each topic can be designed based on a research question and a potential simulation based on a problem to be solved with correlated multi-media resource (website)

1. What is Hydroponics? – What is considered ecological sustainable?– Why is this important for agriculture?– What are the historical importance developments? – A model…- examples of successful uses of hydroponics2. What is a hydroponic sensor?– What does the sensor measure?– What are the uses commercial/private – How can an app be designed to benefit the plants

3. How to Classify/Taxonomy- updated data bank for stored natural history

4. Seeds/Roots/Supermarket botany

Page 17: IF Grant Summer 2013 Christine M. Yukech Science Education the University of Akron

Hydroponic Sensor topics

5. Biodiversity/Sustainability– invasive/non-invasive, – agriculture/horticulture

6. Environmental benefits – (social media suggestions- the Greenhouse Academy)–create a garden with ecotourism use the following ideas – use project details from a Bio 2 project where students designed a particular type of garden, such as Japanese, Herb, Rose, Wild flower, Vegetable etc. and had to make sure it had proper soil, nutrients, sunlight, and prevention of pests etc.

7. Hydroponic plant nutrients – Plant diseases– Medicine/health –natural herb suggestion- at

www.naturecreation.com – Plant nutrients- also - See the book included on Chia

Seed

Topics for Infrasound Module

1. What is infrasound? – Science behind it– Main break through advances made – historical timeline

  2. What natural and mechanical systems use infrasound? 3. Impact on living organisms (animals, birds, fishes, etc.) 4.  Impact on birds

– What are the sound frequencies impacting different flocks of bird species– Migration and elevation patterns for typical flight pathways for birds – What frequencies birds function from (vision is keen) but what is their

vision and hearing all about? What do they hear and see  5. Interaction of birds and planes6.  Can infrasound be used to lower bird strikes?

– Hypothesis– Literature search– Current work

  7. Other applications for infrasound  8. NSES standards

Page 19: IF Grant Summer 2013 Christine M. Yukech Science Education the University of Akron

Hydroponic Topics8. Objectives from the NSES standards

– Prepare hydroponic nutrient solutions to produce mineral nutrient-deficient plants

– Students use semi- quantitative chemical analysis to determine which mineral nutrient is missing

– Study how plants cause Ph shifts in hydroponic solutions

– Study the chemistry of acid rain and its detrimental effects on plants

– Examine the historical impact on crops i.e.; potato, tea, cotton, corn, peanut butter, sugar cane, tulips, cassava

9. Skip for now but can be added later- Super Market Botany

10. Location- Hydroponics in the U.S. and International
