If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility,

Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

Page 3: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, and they demonstrate 100% reliability with regard to empirically verifiable information,

Empirically verifiable: Provable by means of observation or experiment involving our five senses; practical and not theory

Page 4: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, and they demonstrate 100% reliability with regard to empirically verifiable information, and they maintain 100% integrity in spite of challenges,

Challenges: Assertions made that, if true, would imply or require inaccuracy (<100% infallibility)

Page 5: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, and they demonstrate 100% reliability with regard to empirically verifiable information, and they maintain 100% integrity in spite of challenges, then we can rationally believe 100% of the Bible, namely, those things that are not empirically verifiable.

Not empirically verifiable: Things not testable with the five senses. E.g., Doctrinal issues, i.e., God’s existence, God’s power, God’s will, miracles, heaven, hell, etc.

Page 7: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

If the Bible claims to be completely true, and outside sources that are true never contradict it, and no one has ever proven it wrong in even one of its claims, then we should believe all of it, including those things which cannot be “tested” with our five senses.

• OT: Veracity of the scriptures:

“In 144 cases of transliteration from Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, and Moabite into Hebrew, and in 40 cases of the opposite, or 184 in all, the evidence shows that for 2,300 to 3,900 years the text of the proper names in the Hebrew Bible has been transmitted with the most minute accuracy. … Cf. Ge. 14:1-2

• OT:

… That the original scribes should have written them with such close conformity to correct philological principles is a wonderful proof of their thorough care and scholarship; further, that the Hebrew text should have been transmitted by copyists through so many centuries is a phenomenon unequalled in the history of literature.” (Wilson, 1959) (Mt. 5:18)

• OT:

“The excessive skepticism shown toward the Bible by important historical schools of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, certain phases of which still appear periodically, has been progressively discredited. Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of history.” (Albright, 1960)

• NT:“I began with a mind unfavorable to it, for the

ingenuity and the apparent completeness of the Tubingen theory had at one time quite convinced me. It did not lie then in my line of life to investigate the subject minutely; but more recently I found myself often brought into contact with the book of Acts as an authority for the topography, antiquities, and the society of Asia Minor. It was gradually bourne in me that in various details the narrative showed marvelous truth” (Ramsey, 1896)

Page 18: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

100% Triumphant1. “The Scriptures are not reliable”

2. “The Jesus of the Bible never lived”

3. “The writers were biased; you cannot believe them”

4. “There is no collateral eyewitness testimony”

5. “The authors are anonymous, we cannot know who they were”

6. “There was no empty tomb”

Page 19: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

100% Triumphant“The Bible is full of internal discrepancies”:

(discrepancy, differ, inconsistency, divergence, disagreement, etc.)

E.g.:

1. One angel (Mt./Mk.) or Two angels (Lk./Jn.)?

Infallible doesn’t mean exhaustive, cf. Jn. 21:25

2. Did Peter remain outside the tomb (Lk. 24:12) or go all the way into it (Jn. 20:6-7)?

Too uniform or too varying?

Page 20: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

100% TriumphantApparent contradictions:

• Did Peter remain outside the tomb or go all the way into it? cf. Ex. 32:19-29 w. Dt. 9:…20

• The Mary Magdalene “Problem”

Ans.: Jn. 20:1-20 records two trips

Page 21: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

100% Triumphant“The Bible contradicts Science”:

“Science” contradicts itself:

1. No miracles yet a Big Bang?

2. Old earth

Page 22: If the Scriptures claim 100% infallibility, Infallible: 100% true (but not 100% of the truth)

100% Triumphant“Carbon Dating can best be summed-up with the

following statement by T. Save-Sodebergh and I.U. Olsson (Institute of Egyptology and Institute of Physics, respectively, University of Uppsala, Sweden) in their publication, C-14 Dating and Egyptian Chronology in Radiocarbon: "If a C-14 date supports our theories, we put it in the main text. If it does not entirely contradict them, we put it in a footnote. And if it is completely 'out of date' we just drop it.”

Within that awful volume lies The mystery of mysteriesHappiest they of human raceTo whom God has granted graceTo read, to fear, to hope, to pray,To lift the latch, and force the way;And better had they ne’er been born,Who read to doubt, or read to scorn.
