Phonics Choice Board Choice 1: Fancy WritingPractice writing your spelling words using chalk, crayons, markers, paint, magnetic letters or Playdough. You can also “Rainbow” write them by tracing 2 colors on top of each word.
Choice 2: Word Sort Make flash cards with your spelling words and highlight the vowel patterns or write them in red! Then sort the cards by their vowel team patterns.
Choice 3: Play “Go Fish”Use index cards to make 2 sets of your spelling words. Play “Go Fish” with someone and take turns drawing 2 cards to see if you can find a match. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game wins!
Choice 4: Word Detective! Find words in the books that you are reading with the vowel patterns we are studying. Keep a list of the words you find.
Choice 5: Treasure Hunt! Read or listen to the story, The Surfer Girl, and make a list of as many ur/ir/er words as you can find!
Choice 6: Starfall Activity! Use www.starfall.com to complete phonics activities with vowel teams: Click on: Learn to Read er-ir-ur Sort
Choice 7: Silly SentencesWrite silly sentences using as many spelling words as possible. Then draw pictures to match your sentences.
Choice 8: Play Memory!Use index cards to make 2 sets of your spelling words. Mix them up. Lay them all face down. Draw 2 cards & try to make a match.
