• ISIS – ISIS is known as the Islamic State of

Iraq and Syria. As of December 2015, the

group has controlled over vast landlocked

territory in Iraq and Syria with a population

estimate ranging between 2.8 million and 8

million people.

• Jihad – The Jihad is defined as fight, battle;

Jihad holy war (against the infidels as a

religion duty). It is usually used in the

religious sense and its beginnings are traced

back to the Quran and the words and actions

of Mohamad.

founded in 1988 by Osama bin Laden and

other Arabic volunteers who fought against

the soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the

1980s. It operates as a network made up of

Islamic extremist, Salafist Jihadists.

• Terrorist - a person, usually a member of a

group, who uses or advocates terrorism. A

person who terrorizes or frightens others.

• Terrorism - the use of violent acts to frighten the

people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a

political goal.
