There were 21 motor vehicle stops, nine reports of loose cows, and two deer accidents.

Monday, Nov. 13, 20171213 A Glasgow male was

at the PD wanting to speak with someone about a scam. He said he was at a local restaurant eating lunch and the owner got a phone call from someone saying they were with NorthWestern Energy. The scammer indicated the owner was late on a payment and they were going to shut her off. This person who came in the PD was helping her talk with that person and took her to Albertsons to get a money order because they wouldn’t accept a credit card over the phone. He said when they got to Albertsons, the person told her if she hadn’t gotten a shut-off notice, then it was a scam. The person said they were wanting $900 and possibly another $300 in fees. He said the person who called the woman said they had her account number from North-Western Energy.

1236 A Glasgow female ad-vised she was walking toward the hospital by the Senior Center, and there was a little brown dog running at large. When she came back from the direction of the hospital on 5th Avenue South, the same little brown shaggy dog with muddy feet and face was running around on that street barking at her. She spoke with some people living there, and they said the dog belonged some-where else and that it was always at large. A deputy was notified, but he couldn’t find the dog in the area. The deputy spoke with the dog’s owner to let her know her dog was out, and the owner said she kept the dog on a cable in the yard, but the dog breaks his cable and then climbs over the fence. She will get a new cable and get the dog back in the yard.

1446 A Glasgow male be-lieves his mom was scammed by someone calling from a certain number. He said the person told her she ordered cream online, al-though his mother had never been online and she thought her doctor had called in a prescription for her, so she gave the information when asked. She gave her date of birth and her social security number. The caller was hooked up with a deputy.

1506 A Nashua male called in stating he saw a plume of smoke in front of a residence and he couldn’t tell if the residence or a vehicle was on fire. It turned out to be someone burning a pile of leaves. She was told she should have gotten a burn permit.

2020 A Glasgow female stated she was receiving unwanted texts and would like them to stop.

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 20171059 An officer assisted a

Nashua person. No further action required.

1116 A Glasgow female want-ed to report neglect to some horses at a Glasgow address. She said one pony had such an over-grown hoof it had to walk on the side of it. She knew it had been looked at by a farrier over a year ago, and the farrier recommended scheduled appointments until the hoof could get back into shape, but as far as the caller knows, that was never followed up. She said the horses are eating hay that is over 20 years old that was left in the barn. One of the horses had some type of respiratory issues as well. She was patched up with an officer.

1151 A Glasgow female re-ported backing into a vehicle

in front of the laundry mat. She said when she looked at both her vehicle and the other vehicle, she didn’t see anything, so she left. When she came back, she looked again and could see a crack. A deputy was notified. The deputy said that it was old damage.

1211 A domestic disturbance was reported at Trails West Trail-er Court.

1221 A Fort Peck male called in stating he had hired a construc-tion crew to do a job for him. He said he paid them $1,500 up front, which was one half of what the job was supposed to cost. This crew started on the job, but then didn’t come back, so he fired them and hired someone else. Now the construction crew is accusing this caller of steal-ing tools from them, which the caller states they had left behind a trailer there and some of the workers were coming and getting things out of the trailer on several occasions. The construction man told the caller he was missing four drills, among other things, and wants the caller to pay him $1,500, which would be the other half of what the entire job would have cost him to begin with. He is refusing to pay the construction crew and would like to talk to an officer about this matter. The caller said he fired the construc-tion crew on Nov. 2, 2017. At 12:56 p.m., he arrived at dispatch and said he got the construction tools back and wanted to drop them off.

1301 A Hinsdale male advised he received a message from someone who said they were with the IRS needing to make contact with him. He was told the IRS doesn’t call, they send letters. He was told not to call the number back or give them any personal information if they called again.

1449 A Glasgow male report-ed a fender bender at a Glasgow location. There were no injuries. A deputy was notified.

1544 A card for burglary was started at a deputy’s request.

1601 A Valley County caller reported a possible intoxicated driver. The suspect vehicle was a black Buick Laccross headed southbound on Hwy. 24 N, and then it turned onto US 2. He is willing to sign a complaint. The caller said the vehicle was cross-ing the line and going to the side. He has a video recording.

1917 A Valley County female is doing a test of the notification system. After several phone calls, she was able to reach the party she needed.

Wednesday, Nov. 15, 20170758 A Glasgow person re-

ported two vehicles headed south-bound from MM 9, traveling at high speed. The first vehicle is a green Chevy Suburban. The sec-ond one is a tan Chevy Silverado with a black Montana license plate. The caller felt they were going at least 80 mph. A deputy was notified, but was unable to locate these two vehicles.

1231 A Glasgow male re-ceived a call from a company saying they were Capital One and they could lower his interest rate on his credit cards. They gave him the first five or so numbers of his card, but he wouldn’t give them the rest. He called his credit card company and told them what had happened.

1353 Dispatch received two phantom 911 calls. Called Vision Net and they said they were doing maintenance. He checked and their system was the one mak-ing the calls. A report was sent

to the Glasgow 911 equipment manager.

1403 A Glasgow male advised his friend had a tire blowout on his red Ford F250 about 3 miles north on Hwy. 24 N. The vehicle has been marked and the date is the 14th of November. He just wanted to let us know that they have one of the local tire shops working on getting the tire fixed and getting it moved. He is hop-ing the vehicle will be back on the road in the next couple of hours.

1429 A Glasgow male report-ed a gas drive-off that happened around 1:55 p.m. He said the vehicle was a 3-door silver Ford F150, possibly a 90s model. The vehicle had a black bug guard on the front and mossy oak seat cov-ers. It was occupied by a male in his late 60s wearing a plaid black and white shirt and a camo vest. The caller gave a plate number, which came back no record found. A deputy was notified.

1749 A card was started for drug offenses per an officer’s request.

1927 An officer advised he and another officer would be out looking for a dark bluish Silverado that a caller said was following him. Thursday, November 16, 2017

0257 A Glasgow male report-ed that he left his truck running behind Alleys Palace for about 10 minutes, and when he came out, the truck was gone. He stated that there were no weapons in the truck and that the truck had a blue “God Bless” sticker in the back window. An officer talked to this caller and stated that this caller was intoxicated and that he would come in and file a report when he sobered up. A deputy was notified of the theft.

1012 A Glasgow male wanted an officer to come to Ezzie’s and look at some pictures of a gas drive-off they just had. He said he knows who the guy is, but can’t think of his name. He said he knows the guy’s girlfriend. He and the girlfriend came in, got coffee, went back outside, hung up the hose and left without paying for $65 worth of fuel. A deputy is going to take care of it.

1712 A Hinsdale male re-ported that another male noticed damage to his vehicle after he left the Quick Stop. They told the other male they would view the surveillance tape tomorrow and let him know if they find anything. The caller didn’t know the other male’s address or phone number, other than he lived in Hinsdale.

1806 A Valley County caller said they followed a trailer with no trailer lights from Hinsdale. The trailer was then headed eastbound on the dirt road behind the high school. She believes it will go to US 2 and continue eastbound. An officer and Hel-ena Hwy. patrol were notified. Dispatch received a Montana HP hit on the registered owner and notified an officer and HHP.

1818 A Valley County male received a report of a silver car that was shooting from the Ben-tonite Road around 5:30 p.m. The vehicle was last seen headed toward Glasgow. If located, he would like to speak with the oc-cupants. F&G spotted the vehicle and an officer located it in the DQ drive-through.

Friday, Nov. 17, 20170916 An officer is out with

a semi that was trying to back out.

1119 A Glasgow male wanted

to speak with an officer to “help a kid out.”

1601 An investigation/follow-up on a bad check in Glasgow.

1637 A gas drive off for $30.35 was reported in Glasgow. The ve-hicle was a silver F150, mid-90’s model, pulling a long camper heading east. A deputy called advising he found the subject on Facebook and messaged him, but had been unable to find the vehicle.

1708 An officer assisted a Glasgow citizen.

1834 A St. Marie female stated she was receiving harassing texts and phone calls from a male in Ogden, Utah, and she wants them to stop. She has blocked him several times, but he changes his phone number and calls or texts again.

Saturday, Nov. 18, 20170243 RC dispatch called to

request a deputy to go close up the Beer Mug Bar in Frazer, as their deputy was out of gas and having problems with his fuel card. They will send him after he gets fuel. Our deputy reported the bar cleared out when he showed up, just the owner and her son were there. They were waiting for tribal.

0725 A Glasgow caller re-ported a semi parked in front of his shop. It was a flatbed with two trucks on it and something under a tarp. The truck was gone before an officer could talk to the driver.

0756 A Fort Peck female re-ported her husband was hunting south of Fort Peck and called when he was leaving. He is not home in Flathead County at this time. She has already contacted MHP. He is driving an early 2000s tan, extended cab, long- bed Chevy truck and pulling a large camper that was off white, and possibly maroon. She last talked to him about 1 p.m. yes-terday. At 8:42 a.m., she called PD back to let them know her husband called her and every-thing was okay. He went to sleep in an area with no cell service. He was fine.

0818 A Saco female reported a black Toyota Camry with pos-sible personalized or handicap plates heading eastbound en-tering Valley County. She will contact MHP, too. The vehicle was driving erratically, crossing the center line and almost hitting oncoming traffic. She will sign a complaint. Updated patrolmen and MHP dispatch. Will forward info to Phillips County as our officer was unable to write a ticket for infraction in Phillips County.

1228 A Glasgow male stated he got a phone call from a female who he didn’t know and she talked really fast so he couldn’t understand what she was talk-ing about. At the end she would say, “Is that OK with you?” He told her the first time no, but the second time though he said OK. I advised him to talk to his people at his bank to watch his accounts and get more advice on this matter. He didn’t know who she was, what she wanted or any other information about her.

1526 A suspicious vehicle was investigated. The plate came back inactive. An officer advised there was a young person who was smoking in this vehicle.

JOLEEN TADEJFOR THE COuRIER

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has selected Beth R. Shumate as the new state parks administrator.

She has served as manager of Hell Creek State Park and most recently as FWP’s state trails program manager. She lives near Clancy, Mont.

“Shumate has a forward-look-ing vision for Montana State Parks and the demonstrated abil-ity to coalesce interests and build partnerships,” said FWP Director Martha Williams. “Shumate is passionate about trails and public land access for all.”

Shumate grew up on a dairy farm in Minnesota. She has a bachelor’s degree in health man-agement from Luther College in Iowa and a master’s degree in recreation management from the University of Wisconsin – La-Crosse. She first fell in love with the West as a wildland firefighter and has lived in Montana for 15 years. Some of her personal interests include trail running, hunting, mountain biking, ski-

ing, backpacking, gardening and sharing all outdoor interests with her husband, John, and their two children, Gunner and Kora. “To sum it up, you could say that I live and breathe the great out-doors and enjoy any activity that is outdoor-related and on a trail!” said Shumate.

“During the past 20 years, I’ve had the pleasure of living, working and becom-ing keenly aware of the vital role that our parks and trail sys-tems play in our well-being, our economy and our communi-ties,” Shumate said. “Our 55 Montana State Parks and five Outdoor Recreation Programs play a significant role in building a healthier, more prosperous Mon-tana that provide meaningful and satisfying outdoor experiences for all users, regardless of their age or ability. These experiences reaffirm a sense of connection with the natural environment and provide opportunities for an appreciation of Montana’s natural heritage. I’m

extremely honored and humbled to accept this opportunity because I strongly desire to continue my commitment to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Montanans and our tourists, by improving the parks’ programs through posi-tive momentum and innovative strategies. I’ve been committed

for many years to ad-vancing outdoor recre-ation and parks through unique methods of col-laboration and partner-ships so people better understand the value of our public lands and resources. The time is ripe to consider in-novative solutions to-wards funding short-falls, non-consumptive

recreation and public land issues overall. We must continue to work effectively by coordinating these efforts with various disciplines between divisions, agencies and the public.”

The hiring of an administrator for the FWP’s parks division is important now as the state looks toward the future of the parks and recreation program. “This is

obviously a key leadership role for state parks and recreation. The administrator position is critical for moving forward with the Governor's Parks In Focus Initiative and implementing our strategic plan. We look forward to the energy Shumate will bring in addressing those critical areas, as well as managing overall opera-tions,” said Chair of the State’s Parks and Recreation Board Angie Grove. “The board is looking for-ward to working with Shumate on those two key pieces of direction for the state.”

Shumate was selected from a talented pool of candidates and will begin work Monday, Dec. 4. “We’re pleased to have Shumate's leadership ability in place now with our parks division,” Wil-liams said. “Montana has a truly remarkable state parks system and her commitment to engag-ing the public in the wonderful outdoor opportunities our parks have to offer is the direction we need now.”

For more information, please contact Shumate at 444-4585 or FWP spokesman Greg Lemon at 370-0077.

Keep Montana Green Seeks ArtworkMICHELLE BIGELBACH

THE COuRIER

The Keep Montana Green As-sociation is sponsoring a wildfire prevention art contest, where stu-dents in all grades can participate and have a chance to win prizes at the state and division level. In its 57th year, students throughout the state generate amazing ideas and artwork that promote the pre-vention of human-caused wild-fires. The theme for this year’s contest is “Prepare, Prevent and Protect.”

Students’ artwork is judged based upon their grade level

division. There is also an audio visual and computer generated division for those who want to utilize technology to promote the prevention of human-caused wildfires. No matter which divi-sion a student participates in, the objective is threefold: educate Montana’s youth on ways to reduce wildland fires and be safe with fire; assist educators with teaching fire safety, prevention and conservation; and utilize ideas and messages from the art contest in future fire prevention programs.

Artwork will be judged on originality, design, slogan, art-

work and prevention message, and must follow a wildland fire theme. Artwork will first be judged regionally by the six Department of Natural Resources and Conversation (DNRC) Land Offices. Ribbons will be awarded to the first three places and honorable mentions will be rec-ognized in each division. These winners will be announced by their regional land offices and their artwork will advance to the statewide competition. All par-ticipants will receive a certificate of participation. Those submit-ting entries to the audio visual, computer generated and special

education divisions will only be judged statewide.

All artwork should be mailed or delivered by Feb. 23, to the DNRC Northeastern Land Of-fice at 613 N.E. Main Street, P.O. Box 1021, Lewistown, MT 5945. Audio visual divi-sion participants need to e-mail their work to [email protected], as a mp3 file in an attachment or provide a link to the video that is uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.
