The state agency that oversees unemployment insurance is the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

There are two ways to file a claim: by phone or online. Some people who are trying to file have experienced technical issues or long wait times.

The state agency has two administrative offices — one in Las Vegas and one in Carson City — but claims can’t be filed in person.

DETR has an instructional video on YouTube — available in both English and Spanish — about how to apply.

— Online: DETR officials say the best way to file a claim is online. The website is ui.nv.gov/css.html.

AT&T Offers Relief for CustomersAT&T is planning on being here to help you stay connected throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We recognize that staying in touch with your family, friends, school and work has never been more important. Below are a few ways we’re helping consumers, small businesses, and enterprises across the country.

Consistent with FCC Chairman Pai’s “Keep Americans Connected Pledge” and concerns raised by members of Congress, which we share, AT&T is proud to support our customers by pledging that, for 60 days, we will:

To provide further relief and support, AT&T announced:

Unlimited AT&T Home Internet – All AT&T consumer home internet wireline customers, as well as Fixed Wireless Internet, can use unlimited internet data. Additionally, we’ll continue to offer internet access for qualifying limited income households at $10 a month through our Access from AT&T program. We’ve expanded eligibility to Access from AT&T to households participating in the National School Lunch Program and Head Start. Additionally, we’re offering new Access from AT&T customers two months of free service.

Helping You Work and Learn Remotely – Businesses, universities and schools can keep their teams and classrooms connected through conference calls and video conferencing with Cisco Webex Meetings with AT&T for 90-days, and seamlessly forward calls to both mobile and landline phones with AT&T IP Flexible Reach.

Distance Learning – We’ve created a new Distance Learning and Family Connections Fund to give parents, students and teachers tools they need for at-home learning. The fund also will provide resources to maintain meaningful connections and bonding opportunities for those isolated from family and friends. Our first contribution of $1 million will go to Khan Academy. This collaboration will improve and expand online learning resources to meet growing demand from parents, teachers and students, including those who rely on free resources and need Khan Academy the most. It will also support the development of new resources designed specifically for COVID-19 school closures.

AT&T is underwriting expenses for a “one-stop” resource center to support eLearning Days from the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) available to all educators in schools to help them handle school closures and the increase in virtual learning due to COVID-19.

Not terminate the service of any wireless, home phone or broadband residential or small business customer because of their inability to pay their bill due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Waive any late payment fees that any wireless, home phone or broadband residential or small business customer may incur because of economic hardship related to the coronavirus pandemic.1

Waive domestic wireless plan overage charges for data, voice or text for residential or small business wireless customers incurred because of economic hardship related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Keep our public Wi-Fi hotspots open for any American who needs them.

Serving Those who Serve – AT&T is redirecting more resources to provide communication services and tools for first responders, health care professionals, educators and other essential customers. This additional support will help ensure these customers can continue providing critical support to the country and their communities, particularly to first responders using the FirstNet network.

As first responders across the country stand on the front lines to support our nation’s response to COVID-19, they can have confidence knowing that with FirstNet they’ll have the unthrottled connectivity and priority communications they need to respond during this public health emergency. It’s this type of unparalleled emergency support that distinguishes FirstNet, the only nationwide wireless broadband communications platform dedicated to America’s first responders and public safety community, from best-effort commercial wireless networks built for consumer use.

Extending Paid Leave for our Employees – As we continue to assess the impact of COVID-19 on our business, our people and our communities, we recognize some of our employees have specific needs and cannot fulfill their roles either at the workplace or from home during this time – so we want to continue to help. We are extending our original 80 hours of paid, excused time off to up to a total of 160 hours for the following scenarios:

Employees who have tested positive for COVID-19 and remain quarantined.

Employees who are at higher risk due to an underlying health condition (60+, heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, cancer).

Parents or guardians of children whose schools or daycares have closed for COVID-19 and for whom another child care option is not yet available.

Primary caregiver for someone diagnosed with COVID-19 who is unable to provide self-care.

We are grateful for what our employees are doing to deliver on the important responsibility of taking care of our nation’s first responders and FirstNet subscribers, healthcare providers, government leaders, educators and critical businesses as they turn to us for support through this unpredictable storm.

Reducing Retail Locations – Due to coronavirus, we will begin to close additional AT&T stores across the nation, significantly reducing our retail footprint to a minimum number of locations required to serve first responders, healthcare workers, government users and our customers. Where possible, we will keep at least one retail location open within a 20-mile radius in urban and suburban areas, and just over a 30-mile radius in rural areas. To locate a retail store that will remain open to serve your area, please visit our store tracker at www.att.com/stores.

Visit AT&T’s dedicated COVID-19 website for additional details and the latest updates.

■ Waive any late fees that any residential or small business customers incur because of their economic circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Keeping Our Employees Safe and Customers Safe.T-Mobile takes our designation by the government as a critical communications infrastructure provider seriously and continues to evaluate the steps we need to take as a business to align guidelines from State, Local and Federal Government agencies with what’s best for our customers and our employees.

■ T-Mobile will temporarily close approximately 80% of its company-owned retail stores until at least March 31st.

■ The stores that remain open, which are distributed across the country, will operate on reduced schedules and only stay open for eight hours each day – from 10 am to 6 pm local time for most stores

■ At stores and Care facilities, hygiene and sanitization efforts will remain a priority.

Helping Our Communities.

T-Mobile has been mobilizing response and relief efforts in every area of our business to ensure that we continue to provide the connectivity that is crucial during these challenging and unique times. We also take our responsibility to give back seriously, particularly in times of need.

■ T-Mobile has entered into hundreds of partnerships with K-12 school districts around the United States to provide significantly reduced data plans with Unlimited connectivity and content filtering. These partnerships have accommodated over 400,000 students who do not have internet access or an internet connected device at home.

■ T-Mobile is giving up to $500,000 to Feeding America through T-Mobile Tuesdays, a program that thanks customers with exclusive offers every Tuesday.

■ With the help of customers through the T-Mobile Tuesdays app on March 17, the company will give $1 per click on the Feeding America card with a minimum of $300,000 up to a total of $500,000.

■ The T-Mobile Foundation is giving $100,000 to the COVID-19 Response Fund hosted by the Seattle Foundation, which will rapidly deploy resources to community-based organizations at the frontlines of the coronavirus outbreak in the greater Seattle and Puget Sound region.

Children learn better—and faster—when teachers have a clear picture of what each student knows and is ready to learn next. That’s why a group of educators and researchers founded NWEA®, a not-for-profit organization that has created some of the most trusted and reliable assessment solutions available. More than 9 million students in the US and in 140 countries worldwide use MAP® Growth™.

Parent’s Guide to MAP Growth

How it Works

MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive test. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This type of assessment challenges top performers without overwhelming students whose skills are below grade level.

MAP Growth begins with a question at each student’s grade level and adjusts the level of difficulty based on individual performance.

What it Measures

MAP Growth uses a RIT scale to accurately measure what students know, regardless of their grade level. It also measures growth over time, allowing you to track your child’s progress throughout the school year and across multiple years. Once your child completes a MAP Growth test, they receive a RIT score.

The RIT scale precisely measures student performance, regardless of whether they’re performing on, above, or below grade level.

“MAP Growth is important because it allows my teacher and me to see how much I know and my percentile growth. In math, my score used to be 227 (70th percentile), but it is now 240 (87th percentile). I didn’t know I was capable of so much growth, but in the end I was.”

The Results: Your Child’s RIT Score

RIT scores have the same meaning across grade levels. If a fourth-grade student and an eighth-grade student have the same RIT score in reading, then they are testing at the same level in that subject.

You can use your child’s RIT score to help them meet their goals. For example, students can enter their RIT scores into our college explorer tool to see which colleges and universities they’re on track to enter. You can also check out online resources that use RIT scores to provide students with book recommendations and web-based exercises, such as yourreadingpath.com and khanacademy.org.

COMMON QUESTIONS

How do schools and teachers use MAP Growth scores?

Teachers can use the score to inform instruction, personalize learning, and monitor the growth of individual students. Principals and administrators can use the scores to see the performance and progress of a grade level, school, or the entire district.

Can MAP Growth tell me if my child is working at grade level?

Yes, but please note that MAP Growth scores are just one data point that teachers use to determine how a student is performing. Please discuss any questions that you have about your child’s performance with your child’s teacher.

How often will my child take MAP Growth tests?

Most schools give MAP Growth tests to students at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year (in the fall, winter, and spring). Some schools choose to administer tests only twice a year.

What are norms? NWEA provides schools with norms every three years. This is anonymous data from more than 10 million students around the country. Knowing the top, middle, and bottom scores of all these students combined allows teachers to compare where your child is to other students and help them grow.

Is MAP Growth a standardized test?

Unlike a standardized test, MAP Growth is administered periodically during the school year. Instead of asking all students the same questions, it adjusts to each child’s performance—giving a more accurate measure of what they know. Teachers also receive results right away, which enables them to react more quickly.

What types of questions are on MAP Growth tests?

The MAP Growth tests include multiple choice, drag-and-drop, and other types of questions. For sample tests, visit warmup.nwea.org.
