IFC Grabs More ‘Spoils’ From Funny Or DieFollowing the success of this year’s The Spoils OfBabylon, IFC has ordered a second round of Funny OrDie’s storytelling from the Spoils franchise. The latestbook-to-screen adaption from author Eric Jonrosh is titledThe Spoils Before Dying. The new Spoils will premierein summer 2015 with six episodes. Jonrosh (played by WillFerrell) will be returning as the wine-loving bon vivantwho opens and closes each riveting episode with his
personal insight. The Spoils Before Dying will include a new celeb cast, and the miniseries will beexecutive produced by Ferrell, Adam McKay, Matt Piedmont, Andrew Steele and Nate Young. Steele andPiedmont return as writers, with Piedmont also directing. The Spoils Before Dying, based on Jonrosh’sfirst best-selling novel, follows a 1950s jazz pianist-turned-private eye, who becomes embroiled in amurder investigation.
“Hang on to your hats America! This one’s going to be totally bonkers!” Ferrell said in today’sannouncement. Piedmont chimed in, “television audiences haven’t clamored this much for a secondseason since After M*A*S*H*.” Steele contributed, “Eric Jonrosh is a drunk who urinated in my sink whenhe came to our house for dinner, but damn he writes great miniseries.” And, McKay concluded, “The firstSpoils mini-series beat the NFL and Big Bang Theory in ratings (adults: ages 74-92) and changed the wayAmericans talk, think and prepare meat. We anticipate this new series from Jonrosh with Steele andPiedmont becoming the most watched television event in the history of earth.”
The Spoils Of Babylon was one of IFC’s most-watched and buzzed-about comedies; cast included JessicaAlba, Ferrell, Jellybean Howie, Val Kilmer, Tobey Maguire, Haley Joel Osment, Tim Robbins, MichaelSheen, Steve Tom and Kristen Wiig, with cameos by Molly Shannon and David Spade.
