ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

AFST(I) and its affiliates

AFST(I) Education & Publication Trust

AFST(I) Chapters

CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore

DRDO-DFRL, Mysore

NIFTEM, Kundli (Haryana)

AFSTI, established in 1957, is one of the largest professional bodies in the country with its varied

membership numbering more than 3500 spread over 29 Chapters across the country. The

association has successfully completed its golden jubilee in 2007 and is heading towards the

diamond jubilee. The major objectives of the AFST (I) include application of advanced

technology during production, processing, storage and distribution of food with an ultimate aim

of strengthening the socio-economic status of farmers, entrepreneurs and rural artisan

community. The AFST(I), as a storehouse of food professionals, is continuously working for the

economic development of country through food technology and engineering. The Association brings

out many technical publications including prestigious Journals: Journal of Food Science and Technology (JFST) and Indian Food Industry

Mag (IFI Mag). The major activities of AFST(I) are to organize Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists (ICFoST) every year

and International Food Convention (IFCON) once in every five years.

The AFST(I) Education & Publication Trust (AFSTI E&PT) was formed in 1988 as a sister

organization of AFST(I). The office of the Trust is located at AFST (I) office CFTRI Campus Mysore. The main objective of the Trust is to

stimulate research on various aspects of Food Science and Technology. The organization has made commendable progress in awarding

yearly scholarships to merited students in the field of Food Science and Technology, from the interest accrued on its corpus fund. The

Trust also supports scientists with financial grants for writing books and monographs in the field.

The Chapters of the Association are located at Amritsar, Bangalore, Bhopal, Calcutta, Chennai, Delhi, Erode, Hisar,

Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Karnal, Kanchipuram, Kharagpur, Kollam, Ludhiana, Pondichery, Mumbai, Manipur,

Nagpur, Pantnagar, Pune, Parbhani, Thanjavur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur & Vallabh Vidyanagar.

The Defence Food Research Laboratory, (DFRL) was established in December, 1961 under the aegis of Defence Research &

Development Organisation (DRD)), Ministry of Defence to cater to the strategic operational

requirements of our Services and to provide logistical support to the Armed Forces in the area of

food supplies. The R&D efforts at DFRL are aimed at designing of engineering light weight

convenient, pack rations for Army, Navy, Air Force and other paramilitary forces which do not

require any elaborate cooking or preparation at the consumers's end and remain shelf-stable

under varying climatic conditions for periods ranging from 6 months to 1 year. DFRL also has

products which are export worthy and amenable to working women. Owing to its singular

dedicated contributions in processed foods, DFRL can be reckoned as the leader in convenience

foods and packed ration developments in this country. Indigenous ingenuity is the hallmark of most

of the technologies developed at DFRL.

Central Food Technological Research Institute(CFTRI), Mysore (a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New

Delhi) came into existence during 1950 with the great vision of its founders, and a network of inspiring as

well as dedicated scientists who had a fascination to pursue in-depth research and development in the

areas of food science and technology. The focus of the Institute has been towards low-cost effective

technologies, utilisation of indigenous raw materials, bio-friendly processes with emphasis on

integrated technology and high level pursuit for total technology with underpinning of food safety,

health and nutrition to all sections of the population. The Institute has geared up its R&D and impact

of the globalisation has given very good dividends with a large number of externally funded projects

from national and international agencies. The present scenario in the country is very vibrant with

rising capital investment in food industry, which is expanding at a rapid pace in urban markets for

processed foods, especially for the traditional foods through eco-friendly technologies. CFTRI is an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004

organisation and NABL accredited for chemical and biological testing of samples.

NIFTEM is the brainchild of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). MoFPI in its Vision

document-2015, envisaged creation of a world-class institution to cater to the various stakeholders

such as entrepreneurs, food processing industry, exporters, policy makers, government and

existing institution. NIFTEM will work actively in assisting in setting up food standards,

businesses incubation and can also include knowledge sharing i.e, information/knowledge

sharing. It would also be an apex institution in the field of food technology and management,

networking and coordinating with other institutions in the same field.NIFTEM campus is being

established in Haryana. NIFTEM campus in Haryana, is an international centre of Excellence

with state of the art infrastructure and world class man-power for research and training.
