12TH – 21ST JUNE 2020 Study Tour IFEAT is pleased to announce our 12th Study Tour will take place in India from 12th to 21st June 2020. The tour will visit various Indian essential oil, oleoresin and spice producing, processing and exporting companies dealing in a range of flavour and fragrance ingredients. Delegates will visit western, central and northern India, which have diverse climatic zones facilitating the production of a wide range of F&F ingredients including several varieties of mint, agarwood (from which oudh is produced) and sandalwood. India has a history stretching back thousands of years and during their travels delegates will experience diverse environments, magnificent monuments, beautiful scenery and a rich heritage of traditional music, dance, crafts, costumes and cuisines. As the map illustrates, the tour will cover several cities including Mumbai, Lucknow, Agra, Delhi, Bareilly and Guwahati. Participation will be limited to approximately 40 participants. IFEAT members are advised to book early, as previous recent study tours were extremely popular and sold out quickly. Registration will begin in mid-November 2019 and information will be available on the IFEAT website www.ifeat.org. Registration will be limited to one person per IFEAT member company.

IFEAT is pleased to announce our 12th Study Tour will take place in India from 12th to 21st June 2020. The map and itinerary provide a summary of the places andoperations that we will visit. The tour starts in Mumbai – India’sfinancial and entertainment capital known as the “the city ofdreams” - with registration, a welcome reception, the tourbriefing and a short tour. The following day we will visit theoperations of two major Indian companies, Jindal’s mentholprocessing operations and S.H. Kelkar (Keva), India’s leadingfragrance manufacturer.

The following day we fly to Lucknow and spend the next fourdays in Uttar Pradesh (UP) with visits to Barabanki, Bareilly andBadaun. Some two million people are employed in mint productionand processing in UP, producing peppermint (M. piperita),cornmint (M. arvensis) and spearmint (M. spicata) oils as wellas other essential oils and attars. Visits will be made to the mintproduction and processing areas where harvesting will be infull swing. Traditional distillation operations will be seenalongside modern processing operations. Visits are planned tothe production and processing operations of KancorIngredients, Oriental Aromatics (formerly Camphor and AlliedProducts), Gem Aromatics, Herbochem, Ashri Menthol andJindal. In addition, a visit will be made to the research

headquarters of CIMAP (Central Institute of Medicinal andAromatic Plants) one of the world’s leading multidisciplinaryresearch institutes into essential oils and medicinal plants.

The final day in UP will be spent travelling to Agra (“the city oflove”), visiting various growing and processing operationsalong the way. A highlight of the tour will be dinner on the hotelterrace overlooking the Taj Mahal Palace followed by a veryearly morning visit to this iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site.Then a long coach journey to Delhi, India’s capital city and visitUltra International’s operations at Sahibabad.

The following day we will depart on an early flight to Guwahatiin the north east state of Assam, close to Bangladesh, Bhutan,China and Myanmar. During the next two days delegates willvisit Ajmal’s agarwood and sandalwood plantations, oudhdistillation and processing units, the R&D centre and there willbe a smelling session. In addition, visits will be made toneighbouring educational and medical establishments. On thefinal day of the tour we will take an early morning flight back toDelhi, followed by a farewell dinner.

Besides seeing some of the wide range of aromatic materialsproduced in India, the tour will enable delegates to experienceits rich culture, diverse cuisines and physical beauty.

STUDY TOUR OBJECTIVES

WHY INDIA IN JUNE?The crops, particularly mint, are being harvested and processed during thistime in Uttar Pradesh as well as agarwood being processed in Assam. Pleasenote, June is the start of the monsoon period, which could affect some ofthe travelling. In addition, the temperatures in central India can be in excessof 45 degrees.

The India Study Tour 2020 has a number of objectives:• To gain knowledge of production and processing facilities of mint oils, menthol, essential oils, aroma chemicals and F&F ingredients produced and processed in Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh (UP), New Delhi and agarwood and sandalwood in Assam.• To view field cropping, traditional field distilleries, modern distillation and oleoresin extraction plants.• To visit a major research institute specialising in essential oils and medicinal plants. • Provide an opportunity for delegates to meet with Indian producers, processors, importers and exporters. India is one of the world’s largest importers, exporters and consumers of F&F ingredients.• Learn about India’s rich history and heritage.• Tours allow delegates to meet with other flavour and fragrance industry professionals from a variety of countries - on recent study tours there have been participants from over 20 countries.• To achieve all of this over a period of eleven days.

LIABILITYAny descriptions, representations, specifications, photographs and other particularsmade in the Study Tour brochure or otherwise that may be provided by IFEAT, are givenfor general information purposes only. They shall not form part of the agreement or haveany contractual force.

IFEAT shall not be liable for any personal injury, loss, damage or injury however causedor arising (not due to IFEAT’s negligence) from a defect in, failure in, or unsuitability forany purpose of any part of the Study Tour and IFEAT shall not in any event be liable forany direct, indirect or consequential loss such as loss of profit whatsoever andhowsoever caused. IFEAT does not exclude or limit in any way its liability to you where itwould be unlawful to do so.

In addition to the above, IFEAT is not responsible for, or liable for any loss, damage orinjury incurred by you, including but not limited to, your failure to obtain adequate travelinsurance for all aspects of the Study Tour; to obtain visas, passports and arranging travelto and from the Study Tour destination; and IFEAT is not responsible for any changes,delays or cancellations to any aspect of the Study Tour due to third parties such as touroperators or other vendors and suppliers.

TRAVEL INSURANCEIt is strongly recommended that personal travel insurance (including medical cover) betaken out at the time of making your tour reservation. Travel insurance may facilitatesome refund of travel expenses and the tour fee to be obtained through insurers in theevent of inability to travel due to ill health or other circumstances. Make sure you readthe fine print to ensure you are purchasing the correct coverage. IFEAT takes noresponsibility in the event an inadequate policy has been purchased or of the refusal orinability of an insurer to pay the claim. PASSPORT AND VISA REQUIREMENTSPassports must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

All foreign nationals entering India are required to possess a valid international traveldocument in the form of a national passport with a valid visa from an Indian Mission/Postor eVisa (Limited Categories) from the Bureau of Immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs.For other general information regarding visas then visit the website of the IndiaImmigration Visa Service: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/

Many nationalities can apply for eVisas on-line. Be warned that if searching on-line toapply for an Indian visa there are private websites (i.e. non-government) that will facilitatevisa applications but they will charge an additional fee for this service.

HEALTH CAREYour doctor or travel clinic is the best source of information about preventive measures,immunisations (including booster doses of childhood vaccinations) and diseaseoutbreaks overseas. The World Health Organization (WHO) provides information fortravellers and also provides useful tips for staying healthy and travelling with medicineswhile overseas.

CURRENCYThe Indian Rupee (INR) is the currency of India. In October 2019 there were 71 Rupees =1 US Dollar, 78 Rupees = 1 Euro but these rates are subject to change. Currency can bechanged at the airport or hotels and ATMs (automated teller machines) are available inmost places and accept most of the main credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard andAmerican Express.

ELECTRICITYIndia operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50 Hz (cycles); plugs have two round pins.

CLIMATEIn India, the month of June is typically monsoon season. Apart from the rains, thetemperature in the most parts of the country is usually hot and humid. The temperatureof the places are; Maharashtra (Mumbai) 32°C/26°C, Uttar Pradesh 48°C/47°C, Delhi39°C/28°C and in Assam 31.3°C/27.8°C.

STUDY TOUR COSTS, BOOKINGAND CANCELLATION POLICY

Tour CostThe cost of the tour is US$ 6,800 and includes ten nights single roomaccommodation in 4 and 5 star hotels; all programme meals and receptions,transportation and tour guides. IFEAT is not responsible for the cost and bookingof flights/travel to Mumbai and from Delhi, India; this is the responsibility of theindividual delegate.

Qualifications and Restrictions on ParticipationInitially participation is restricted to personnel from IFEAT member companiesand only one person per member company will be permitted to attend. In orderto qualify, it is necessary that the member company has paid its annualmembership subscription to date including those current at the time ofapplication for a place on the tour and at the date of the tour. Delegates mustbe at least 21 years old at the time of registering. No accompanying persons arepermitted. Bookings will be accepted by IFEAT on a first come, first served basis.Delegates will only be registered for the Study Tour once full payment has beenreceived by IFEAT.

Potential participants will be required to agree to our terms and conditionsprior to their acceptance on the Study Tour.

Cancellation PolicyA 50% refund will be paid on a cancellation received in writing by the IFEATSecretariat by noon (12:00) BST on Tuesday 14th April 2020. No refunds will begiven for cancellation received after this deadline, irrespective of the reason,including inability to obtain a visa (where appropriate). It is the responsibility of theindividual participant to obtain a valid entry visa. It is recommended that theindividual participant takes out insurance to cover the risk of not being able toparticipate because of sickness or for any other reason whatsoever.

If an individual with a confirmed place finds later that he/she is unable to participate,it will be possible to change the booking name to that of another member in thesame company or to someone approved by IFEAT without incurring a financialpenalty (unless expenditures, e.g. flight bookings, have already been or will beincurred). If a substitute cannot be found however, this implies cancellation, whichwill be subject to the policy given above.

The organisers may, at any time, with or without giving notification, in their absolutediscretion and without giving reason, cancel or postpone the Study Tour, changeits venue location or any of the other published particulars, or withdraw anyinvitation to attend. In any case, neither the organisers (IFEAT) nor IFEAT committeemembers or representatives, including IFEAT staff and consultants, shall be liablefor any loss, liability, damage or expense suffered or incurred by any personattending the IFEAT Study Tour.

Should circumstances arise that result in the postponement of the Study Tour,IFEAT will offer participants the option of either a full refund or transfer of theirregistration to the same event at a new, future date. If IFEAT cancels the Study Touraltogether, registrants will be offered a full refund.
