Imperials V Ramblers
ROUND 6 7th May 2016
After a huge day to celebrate our 50th anniversary, we back it up with the biggest home and away game of the year being the Cawte‐Norish cup against the old foe Ramblers. They are absolutely flying after knocking off the previously unbeaten Mannum and will take some beating. The boys will need to be at their best.
The boys produced a predominantly consistent effort to take care of a gallant Tailem Bend outfit. The first quarter was outstanding as the boys controlled the game in their front half. It was great to see Leith Marston benefit from the work up the field and kick four in a good display. Gazza Williams returned to some strong form creating great pace through the middle of the ground and also being a danger up forward.
The Reserves also produced a good effort with a comprehensive win. Anthony Gregurke turned back the clock to his old Tailem Days and got on the end of absolutely everything against his old club. His crumbing ability and ability to finish off the work up the field was brilliant, finishing with half a dozen.
The 15’s and 17s continued on their merry way, both recording strong wins. Many of the Under 17 boys are pushing for senior selection which is great pressure to put on the senior playing group.
Hang around this evening for a Mexican fiesta with burritos, coronas and tequila!!
As Always….
Go You Blues!

Joke of the week There were two cannibals who captured a man. They decided it would be fair if they started eating from opposite ends. After a few minutes, the one who started at the head asked the other one, "How's it going down there?" And the other one replies, "I'm having a ball!"
Answer: Phil Smith (2012)

Congratulations to the following U/15 and U/17 lads chosen as part of the RMFL Association Squads.
A few words from Gerald Rigney about the Aboriginal AFL Academy; As part of my Schooling, I have been a part of the SAASTA (South Australian Aboriginal Sports Training Academy) program for the past two years. I then earnt my position in the Aboriginal AFL Academy (AAA). Within AAA one day a week I undergo footy training at Alberton Oval and study cert 3 in sports & recreation. As AAA has a major partnership with the Port Adelaide Football Club, on April the 27th the academy and I went to Melbourne to experience what a life as an AFL player was like. Some highlights include going to the North Melbourne FC and meeting the three Aboriginal players including Lindsay Thomas, Daniel Wells & Jed Anderson, playing at the Richmond FC oval against the Richmond Aboriginal Academy team (we won by 45points). Going to the Marngrook Footy Show was another highlight as we were able to watch the show live and saw ourselves on T.V. Watching two games live at the MCG was also a standout. My favourite thing was being able to go into the club rooms after the win of Port Power Vs Richmond and singing the club song with the whole team.
Last Saturday saw Imperials take on Tailem Bend at home under some hot dusty conditions. There were some great games of netball played and it is evident that the next time we meet several games could go the other way. Our arch rivals Ramblers join us at Imps today and seeing their result over the past couple of weeks this one is going to be tough for many grades! Today I wanted to introduce our future champions on the clubs. I have been keeping an eye on these girls and for a Mini's team these girls can play! Their last couple of games they defeated their opponent by double figures!! From the Mini's coach ‐ This year the Mini’s team consists of 12 girls, 3 of which played Mini’s last year. We have a very tall team this year and I have already seen so much improvement from all the girls. We played our first carnival at Meningie last weekend. Although it was quite cold and rained a little the girls had an absolute ball. A big thank you to all the parents for bringing the girls out and a special thanks to Maddie Adler who kept the girls under control! My main aim as coach this season is to continue to work on the basics and prepare the girls for their big step up into U11’s next year. Coach – Kim Perriman, Team Manager – Kara Kimber and PCP – Madeline Adler
Tonight the B grade will be cooking tea at the clubrooms for Imperials Mexican Fiesta. Head on over to join the players for hopefully a celebration drink after the game and presentations at 6pm.
Good luck blue girls!!
