Greetings to all,
As a new season approaches and we look forward to beautiful fall colors, cooler temperatures, harvest and hunting, I must say, it is my favorite time of the year. I hope everyone has had a good summer and had the chance of getting away with friends and family. I would like to Introduce myself for those who may not know who their new IFSA President is for this year. Kerry Morrison is my name. I am an Idaho Boy! I grew up in the big city of
Oakley. I tell people I graduated 16th in my class and they think I was smart. I just don’t tell them that 16 students is all we had in our class. I participated in all the school sports including football, basketball, track and also enjoyed bowling, golf and the love of the outdoors with hunting and fishing. (As I am writing this it sure sounds like an obituary, sorry) I served my apprenticeship in Nampa with Alsip Funeral Chapel. I attended Mortuary School at Mt. Hood in Gresham, Oregon graduating in 1990. I worked in Twin Falls with White Mortuary, Payette with Schaffer - Jensen, Hansen and Payne Mortuary in the Burley area and most recently opened Morrison Funeral Home and Crematory in Rupert. I have a wonderful wife; Natalie, four children; Carlie and her husband Marshall who live in Logan where she
is working on her Masters degree at Utah State; Lacy, who is a BYUI graduate and works for Novell and her husband Kalin who lives Provo where he attends BYU.(Go Cougars!), Kasiah who is serving a full time mission in Roseville, California, my one and only son, Hayden who is a sophomore at Burley High School. So there you have it, a little about me and my family. I would like to say a big thank you to Eli Yates for the great job he did as our president last year and especially for all his work in providing us with an excellent convention this past June in McCall. Speaking of the convention, I would encourage everyone to mark your calendars for June 19-21 at Shore Lodge in McCall. We are actively in the process of planning speakers, and other activities that I know you will really enjoy. Those of you who have
attended our convention know what kind of an experience that can be had with you and your family. We really do have one of the best conventions that is fun and family friendly. This is stated by many of our vendors, and they should know because our vendors attend many different conventions and meetings around the United States. More detailed information regarding speakers and activities will be announced in the coming months as we get closer to convention time. In the meantime, I would recommend that each of your districts hold district meetings. I know Ken and I would love to attend and keep you in the loop regarding issues concerning our profession
in our great state of Idaho.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention launches resource to help survivors of suicide loss.
Run by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the Survivor Outreach Program is a national network of volunteers who have experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide and who receive training to visit others who have experienced a similar loss. These visits are free and available to the public. The program, first developed in 2007 and initially serving only loss survivors in regions of the country where AFSP had local chapters, has now been
expanded to include the whole country.
The Survivor Outreach Program currently has 375 trained volunteers who are available on request for home, phone, video chat or email visits. Visits last from an hour to two hours, depending on the person's need and the volunteer's
availability. Generally, visits are requested by the newly bereaved within about two months of their suicide loss and
sometimes around the anniversary of a death.
NFDA members came out in force on Monday, June 15 to make a difference in Washington, D.C.
With such a large and active membership, NFDA was able to really have an impact on Capitol Hill. Imagine what it
was like for Congressional offices to receive dozens of calls from funeral director constituents, all on the same day,
about issues that impact you as funeral directors.
You can bet members of Congress paid attention - they listened to NFDA advocates and have already begun
reaching out to NFDA’s advocacy staff about
supporting our legislation.
A big thank you to all our advocates who took time out of their busy day to raise a voice in support of funeral service and the
families we serve!
Even if you were not able to participate in this nationwide initiative, you can still make a difference! Advocacy should not be a once a year thing - our legislators need to hear
from us on a regular basis.
There are two easy ways to contact your members of Congress to educate them about NFDA's four pieces of
legistation:
Congress-at-a-Click: NFDA has provided pre-written messages within this simple online tool. All you have to do is add your contact information and the system will end your message right to your members of Congress.
Call your members of Congress: Download the 2015 Legis-lative Directory to find your state's contact information. Using a smart phone? Search "NFDA" in your app store to download the NFDA Advocacy app. You'll find the
Legislator Directory under Tools. Or, if you know who your representatives are, you can call the Capitol Hill Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to be connected to their
offices.
Please reach out to your legislators at your convenience and ask for their support. If you have any questions about legislative issues, please contact Lesley Witter, Senior VP,
Advocacy.
2015 NFDA Cremation and Burial Report Released
Brookfield, Wis. – The national rate of cremation is projected to surpass that of burial in 2015 according to a report released today by the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA). The 2015 NFDA Cremation and Burial Report: Research, Statistics and Projections features statistics and in-depth analysis of consumer attitudes toward cremation. NFDA is the world's leading and largest association representing funeral
professionals.
According to the 2013 final data in the report, the rate of cremation was 45.4 percent and the rate of burial was 48.7 percent. By the end of 2015, the rates of cremation and burial are projected to be 48.5 percent and 45.6 per-cent respectively. Should the 2015 projections bear out, the cremation rate will have increased by more than 50
percent over the last 10 years.
"Cremation isn't just a trend – it's a service that funeral professionals like me have been offering for years," said NFDA President Robert Moore, IV, CFSP, CCO. "Whether a family chooses a viewing and funeral before cremation or a memorial service after, our duty is to help families understand their options so they can gather to honor
the life of their loved one in a meaningful way."

He continued, "The 2015 NFDA Cremation and Burial Report will help NFDA members understand consumer preferences so we can better support the families we
serve."
In addition to statistical information for the United States and countries around the world for which reliable data is available, the 2015 NFDA Cremation and Burial Report also contains data about consumer perceptions of
end-of-life ceremonies and cremation.
There are many reasons why consumers choose cremation, including cost considerations, environmental concerns, fewer religious prohibitions, and changing consumer preferences, such as a desire for less ritualized funerals.
The majority of families who choose cremation also commemorate their loved one's life: 28 percent choose to have a funeral with viewing before cremation and 37 percent have a memorial service after.
When talking about their own funerals, more than one-half of adults 40 and older would encourage their loved ones to plan a funeral or memorial ceremony. Only 17 percent of adults would discour-age their loved ones from commemorating their life.
The state and national death, cremation and burial projections contained in the 2015 NFDA Cremation and Burial Report were compiled with the assistance of experts from the University of Wisconsin – Madison Applied Population Laboratory Department of Community and Environmental Sociology. Other
findings presented in this report are from proprietary NFDA research studies, such as the 2015 Consumer Awareness & Preferences Study and 2015 NFDA General Price List Survey.
The 2015 NFDA Cremation and Burial Report: Research, Statistics and Projections is available to NFDA members at no charge. It can be downloaded from the NFDA
website, www.nfda.org/tools/cremation.
The 2015 NFDA Cremation and Burial Report: Research, Statistics and Projections is part of the association's effort to offering cutting-edge cremation tools and resources to funeral professionals. As the leading and largest funeral service association in the world, NFDA offers comprehensive cremation-related education; the profession's leading cremation certification program, the Certified Crematory OperatorTM (CCO) program; a cremation consultation hotline; informational resources, such as the NFDA Guide to Selected OSHA Standards for Funeral Homes & Crematories and Opening a Crematory - Frequently Asked Questions for Funeral Directors; and
more.
NFDA is the world's leading and largest funeral service association, serving 19,700 individual members who represent more than 10,000 funeral homes in the United States and 39 countries around the world. NFDA is the trusted leader, beacon for ethics and the strongest advocate for the profession. NFDA is the association of choice because it offers funeral professionals comprehensive educational resources, tools to manage successful businesses, guidance to become pillars in their communities and the expertise to foster future generations of funeral professionals. NFDA is headquartered in Brookfield, Wisconsin, and has an office in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit

All feedback from the convention was positive and everyone had a great time. The rafting trip was another great success and fun for the whole family. The food from the Shore Lodge was wonderful as well as their service. Everyone had time to relax, network, and earn continuing education hours. The young and old all enjoyed Billy Riggs magic show. Children were later noticed trying to figure out how Billy did some of this magic tricks!
If you were unable to attend this year’s convention, we hope to see you next year! Please book your rooms at the Shore Lodge ahead of time for the IFSA 2016 Convention to be held June 19-21, 2016. We hope to see everyone there!
