ABOUT US
We operate worldwide in all
economic sectors where knowledge
of the terrain and the subsoil is an
essential element of their function:
oil & gas, marine, land and maritime
infrastructure, ports and coastal

dredging, cables & piping.
High quality data collection, together
with their interpretation, analysis
and presentation, all using the
latest technology, are the keys that
distinguish the Igeotest Group.
The steady growth of the group and its niche leadership
in recent years are a clear consequence of exploiting and
maintaining competitive advantages: management skills,
project quality, on-going innovation and technological
development, our expertise and motivation of
management and technical personnel, and a commitment
to customers.
Many of the methodologies, investigative equipment,

Applied geophysics
In recent years, applied geophysics, which arose from
natural resource exploration, has acquired a special
significance in geotechnical and hydrogeological studies.
Selection of the most appropriate technique for each
specific case is key to obtaining quality results as the best
methods to apply depend on final objective, geology of
the area under study, desired depth of study and specific
conditions of the ground.

MARINE: COASTAL, NEARSHORE & OFFSHORE
Igeotest offers a complete range of marine services
and combined marine geophysical, geotechnical and
environmental surveys that permit the ocean environment
to be studied from different perspectives as required
by different disciplines and sectors. Using the latest
technology, our flexible approach allows us to offer
efficient and cost-effective solutions tailored to suit each
individual project.
MARINE GEOTECHNICS
Reliable and high quality data collection is an essential
element of site investigation. Beyond that, though, comes
the knowledge and skill of Igeotest’s multidisciplinary
survey team who work together with the client from the
project planning stage, through data acquisition and
interpretation, to reporting, in order to ensure that the
desired information is provided in accordance with each
specific project requirements.
Jack-up drilling, sampling & testing
Igeotest offers over 15 years of experience of
nearshore projects, with many different scenarios and
configurations, this means we can guarantee complete
and highly reliable geotechnical investigations, including
drilling, high quality sampling, rock coring, specialised
testing (CPTU, DMT, FVT, seismic downhole, BAT probe,
Tbar…), data interpretation, reporting and positioning.

4S E R V I C E S
The specialist expertise of the team, the extensive fleet
of geotechnical platforms owned by the company, and
the in-house design and development of much of our
equipment, are key elements in the provision of this
complete service tailored to the needs of each client and
adapted to the specific project environment, while always
maintaining strict compliance with applicable international
standards.
Drilling vessel
Successful coring and drilling on land is dependent on the
selection of coring tools and bits to match the lithology
to achieve high core recovery or rate of penetration
(ROP) during drilling. Most downhole drilling and coring
problems are caused by unconsolidated or fractured
formations and unstable holes with the associated hole
cleaning problems. Vertical ship movement (heave) adds
a third dimension to this problematic equation.
Heave compensators reduce the effect of vertical ship
heave on the drill string and coring tools. Without heave
compensation, optimal ocean coring and borehole
completions would require calm seas, with large amounts
of downtime spent waiting on weather. Both passive and
active heave compensators are installed in the derrick to
reduce the effects of vertical ship motion on the drill string
and coring tools.

Seabed drilling
At Igeotest, we see seabed drilling as a challenge that
allows us to offer highly specialised alternatives in the field
of drilling and oceanological investigation.
In 2008, our philosophy of innovation and desire to offer
alternative solutions led Igeotest to initiate an on-going
research phase in the field of seabed investigation, with
specific focus on high quality drilling (sampling, rock
coring and testing).
Igeotest offers a number of in-house developments and
approaches in this field:
n Non-drilling mode: A practice by which the sampling or testing is started at the seabed and penetration to the final depth is achieved in a single manoeuvre.
n Drilling mode: Using this system, the tests and sampling are deployed from the seabed while progressing by means of rotary drilling techniques.
Technological advances have allowed us to undertake
quality sampling of the seabed using advanced drilling
tools, with remote-operation submarine systems such as
the MiniDrill and the MD500.
These devices not only facilitate the taking of large-
diameter samples, but can also be used in conjunction
with other tests in a single borehole, significantly reducing
survey execution times.

MiniDrill: designed and developed by Igeotest R&D
Subsea drilling system designed for rock coring to depths
of up to 6.0 m. The drilling system and the sample
diameters allow the acquisition of the highest quality rock
samples. In addition, the equipment is also suitable for
soil sampling, where the highest quality samples can be
obtained in accordance with international standards.
MD500: designed and developed by Igeotest R&D
The very latest in geotechnical investigation equipment.
The modular system allows for different configurations
dependent on project requirements. Allows submarine
surveys to be carried out to a depth of up to180 m.
This technique also allows high quality sampling in soft
soils using piston sampler and static piling at the desired
depths without the limits to survey depth associated with
overboard sampling devices (corers), while complying
with international standards for quality classification of
samples.
The ability to configure additional modules allows various
in situ tests to be carried out downhole, including CPT,
DMT, Vane Test and environmental tests.
A patented device, exclusive to Igeotest, the MD500
offers the opportunity of knowing the percentage of
sample recovery in each manoeuvre, allowing decisions
to be taken on site and offering the highest possibilities of
sample acquisition whatever the terrain.

Seabed CPT
By means of underwater systems, it is possible to
perform CPT and CPTU at water depths up to 2500 m

Different configurations of reaction, section and cone and
different methods of deployment allow the best system
to be used in each individual case. As always, whichever
system is chosen, international standards are adhered to
and the highest accuracy is achieved.
Seabed sampling
Seabed sampling can be undertaken using techniques
traditionally known as overboard sampling. For this
type of sampling, Igeotest offers a wide range of corers
including the following types:
n Box corer
n Gravity corer
n Piston Corer
n Vibrocorer
n MiniDrill (rock drill)
Offshore laboratory
By means of the offshore laboratory, Igeotest offers

HYDROGRAPHY & SEABED SURVEYS
Desktop studies
A “desktop study” is a very effective tool for use in the early
planning stages and the engineering planning of any marine
project. The study gathers together and analyses existing data
from the public domain, scientific sources and commercial
databases. Each project is studied from the different points of
view of a multidisciplinary technical-professional team of experts.
Bathymetric surveys
Igeotest uses state-of-the-art techniques for hydrographic
surveys, in accordance with IHO standards (International
Hydrographic Organization).

Side Scan surveys
The side scan sonar is a device used to detect objects
on the seabed, as well as identifying geological surface
formations.
The information supplied by the side scan sonar is vital
for the later performance of a geotechnical survey with
underwater equipment. Igeotest takes into account the
interpretation of side scan sonar data when evaluating
risks in the selection of geotechnical sample points.
Magnetometer surveys
By means of magnetometer survey techniques,
possible sources of interference with geotechnical
surveys can be detected and identified in the survey
area. These studies are necessary for initial evaluation
of risk due to possible submerged elements occurring
within the depth of the investigation (0 to 25 m
beneath the seabed).
UXO surveys
Igeotest offers a complete and comprehensive solution
for obtaining “UXO clearances” as required by local
authorities in order to issue work permits.
In addition to the data obtained from a magnetometer
survey, a historical study of the work area should
be carried out to establish the level of risk and the
probability of finding unexploded ordnance.

Survey vessels
Project duration averages between 15 and 35 days,
demanding flexibility, speed and efficiency, particularly
in matters of deployment. To this end, we actively
manage the deployment of our fleet through the Spot
Market. A “Spot short term charter” is a contract to
perform a specific project in a given time. During this
contract period, the vessel is at the complete disposal
of Igeotest and our customer.
Constant evaluation of vessel availability allows us to
always offer the highest standards possible.

Oceanography
IGEOTEST boasts a multidisciplinary team of experts,
including marine science professionals, to enable a
comprehensive analysis of the work areas. The study
of bodies of water and their vertical stratification is vital
for an accurate environmental characterisation. Data
concerning such stratification is also used for calibration
of geophysical equipment and for underwater positioning
submarino (Ultra short baseline). Using CTD equipment
it is possible to produce a mathematical model of the
velocity profiles of sound propagation in sea water.
Metocean
In all our work and planning procedures, meteorological

GEOPHYSICAL LOGGING
Geophysical logging permits the characterisation of
materials by measuring different physical parameters
using different methods, including electrical resistivity,
velocity of propagation of seismic waves, and
temperature and conductivity of fluids.
Measurements can be taken using different devices or
probes inserted into the borehole, such as:
n Acoustic Televiewer
n Full-wave sonic
n Natural gamma
n Normal resistivity 8”/16”/32”/64”
n Spontaneous potential (SP) and point resistance (SPR)
n Temperature, resistivity and conductivity of fluids
n Heat Pulse Flowmeter
The information obtained allows the material traversed to
be modelled, as well as the acquisition of parameters that
allow us to anticipate soil behaviour. n

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
As a skilled technical company, Igeotest has been able to
take advantage of their expertise, developing their own
department of R&D+i, which is officially registered with
the Spanish Ministry of Industry.
This approach has enabled us to improve the
performance of survey equipment and methods, optimise
efficiency and automate testing, which, in turn, has had
a significant impact on cost-effectiveness and quality of
results obtained.
Our R&D+i strategy is structured from four different
perspectives: financial, client, internal processes and
knowledge.
Igeotest’s R&D+i department has played a crucial role in
company growth in the sphere of marine investigation, as
well as in our internationalisation. The R&D strategy runs
hand-in-hand with the strategy set by the company.

channel to communicate our social commitment.
We achieve this involvement by encouraging the
participation of all company personnel in different
social projects, sharing not just the obligations and
responsibilities, but also the satisfaction that arises from
