Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Readings: Jer 23:1–6; Eph 2:13–18; Mk 6:30–34

If we were to use one word to describe the scriptures for today, it would be “compassion.” In Jeremiah, God rails against those who have scattered the sheep, and vows to “gather the remnant” personally. We also hear the prophecy about the coming Messiah. In Ephesians, Christ is breaking down the walls of division between peoples and drawing them to be reconciled with God in peace. In Mark, Jesus calls the tired disciples away to rest and have some “me time,” but even then the crowds persisted. Jesus saw their spiritual hunger and neediness and was “moved with pity.” All three situations involve looking beyond one’s own agenda to see the needs of others and respond. God mod-els how to empathize with others. May we continue to learn to be kinder, gentler, and more caring for each other.

TIME FOR A TEAM MEETING In last week’s Gospel, Jesus sent the apostles out two by two. To-

day we see him bringing them back together, reporting “all they had done and taught.” A lot has happened between then and now and in this time the disciples experienced many things. They would have grown in their ministry and their ability to heal and preach, but they probably also ran into frustrating times and encountered their limita-tions as human beings. If human nature prevailed, their partners were driving them nuts! So now after all this sharing, Jesus called for some balance in their lives. It was time to come away and rest. Between family and friends and social media, many of us have lost this ability to “be by ourselves” as we have become accustomed to filling every day and every moment with distractions. Perhaps one of the gifts and chal-lenges of “sheltering in place” these last months is that we celebrated moments of joy and hope and peace but were also forced to listen to and name those voices of anger, loneliness, and fear.

WELL LAID PLANS It is important to have balance in our lives, and Jesus was indeed

was trying to teach this to the Apostles, but when they got to their in-tended place of repose, they encountered so many people Jesus was filled with compassion. No doubt he went about feeding them spiritu-ally and physically; it would have been important for him to be hospi-table. But at some point in time, I’m guessing that he still pulled the apostles aside and told them “Okay, people are settled now, so let’s leave all the excitement, delegate the job to somebody else, and find some peace and quiet.” None of us is any good at our prayer, our min-istries, our lives, unless we take the time to find the quiet and go back to replenish our own wells. There is no way we can give to others un-less we do. That is why we return to church each week, to rest and be nourished and renewed. And none of us is so important that we can’t take time away to take care of ourselves. So be gentle with yourself and with others this week.

Re-open church and re-start activities As bishop DiMarzio asked all the parishes reopen

fully, we reopened our church few weeks ago. But mask is still required inside the church places and rectory, please. Thanks be to God, everything looks good so far. I encourage all our parish groups to come back to be active as before. Each group may have its own place and time according to the schedule before the pandemic. Some groups already re-started their activity last week.

parishioners. We are on the way of making our goal,

but we still need some more pledges and donations to

make our goal this year. There are appeal envelopes in

the vestibule of the Church. Please help us to reach

Decimosexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Lecturas de hoy: Jer 23:1–6; Ef 2:13–18; Mc 6:30–34

Si tuvie ramos que usar una palabra para describir las Escrituras de

hoy, esa serí a “compasio n”. En Jeremí as, Dios reprende contra los que han dispersado a las ovejas, y promete “reunir al resto” personalmente. Tam-bie n escuchamos la profecí a sobre la llegada del Mesí as. En la carta a los efesios, Cristo derriba los muros de la divisio n entre los pueblos y los lle-va a reconciliarse en paz con Dios. En Marcos, Jesu s llama a los discí pulos cansados para que descansen y tengan algo de tiempo “personal”, pero au n así las multitudes continuaban. Jesu s vio su hambre y necesidad espi-ritual y se “compadecio ”. Las tres situaciones implican mirar ma s alla de los propios intereses para ver las necesidades de los dema s y responder. Dios es un modelo de co mo empatizar con las dema s personas. Que siga-mos aprendiendo a ser ma s amables, ma s bondadosos y solidarios con los dema s.

HORA DE UNA REUNIÓN DE EQUIPO En el Evangelio de la semana pasada, Jesu s envio a los apo stoles de

dos en dos. Hoy lo vemos reunie ndolos, informando de “todo lo que ha-bí an hecho y ensen ado”. Muchas cosas pasaron entre ese tiempo y ese ahora en que los discí pulos experimentaron muchas cosas. Crecieron en su trabajo misionero y la capacidad de curar y predicar, pero ellos proba-blemente tambie n llegaron a tener momentos frustrantes y encontraron sus limitaciones como seres humanos. ¡Si la naturaleza humana se impo-ní a, sus compan eros los estaban volviendo locos! Así que ahora despue s de todo el compartir que hubo, Jesu s pidio algo de estabilidad en sus vi-das. Era tiempo de alejarse y descansar. Entre la familia, los amigos y las redes sociales, muchos de nosotros perdimos la capacidad de “estar so-los”, pues ya nos hemos acostumbrados a llenar cada dí a y cada momento con distracciones. Tal vez una de las fortalezas y desafí os de “refugiarse en un lugar” estos u ltimos meses es que celebramos momentos de alegrí a, de esperanza y de paz, pero tambie n nos vimos forzados a escuchar y nombrar esas voces de ira, soledad y miedo.

PLANES BIEN TRAZADOS Es importante tener una estabilidad en nuestras vidas, y Jesu s de he-

cho estaba tratando de ensen ar esto a sus Apo stoles, pero cuando llega-ron al lugar donde habí an previsto descansar, se encontraron con tanta gente que Jesu s tuvo compasio n. Sin duda, se dedico a alimentarlos espiri-tual y fí sicamente, tendrí a que ser importante para e l ser hospitalario. Pero, en algu n momento, estoy suponiendo que junto a los apo stoles se aparto y les dijo: “esta bien por ahora, las personas ya esta n asentadas, dejemos este tumulto, deleguemos el trabajo a alguien ma s y hallemos algo de paz y tranquilidad”. Ninguno de nosotros es bueno para la ora-cio n, nuestros apostolados, nuestras vidas, a menos que tomemos tiempo para encontrar la tranquilidad y volvamos a llenar nuestros pozos. No hay manera de que podamos dar a los dema s a menos que lo hagamos. Ese es el porque regresamos a la iglesia cada semana, para descansar, alimentar-nos y ser renovados. Y ninguno de nosotros es tan importante que no pueda tomarse un tiempo para cuidarse a sí mismo. Así que, esta semana, se amable contigo mismo y con los dema s.

如果我们用一个词来形容今天的读经，那就是“慈悲”。在耶

肋米亚先知书里，天主责备那些驱散羊群的人，并发誓要“亲自

集合尚存的羊”，我们也听到要来的默西亚的预言。在致厄弗所

人书中，基督拆毁人们之间阻隔的墙壁，并在和平内与天主和

好。在马尔谷福音里，耶稣让劳累的门徒们去休息一会儿，但人

们仍继续跟随。耶稣看到他们灵性的饥饿及需要，就“动了怜悯

的心”。这三种情况都涉及超越自己的安排，看到他人的需求并

做出回应。天主给我们示范了如何同理他人，愿我们继续学习更

友善、更温柔、更关爱彼此。

团队会议时间

上主日的福音中，耶稣派遣门徒们两个两个的出去。今天我们

看到他叫他们回来，报告“他们所行所教的一切”。从那时到现

在，发生了很多事情，门徒们经历了很多。他们的传教工作，医

治及讲道的能力会增长，但他们可能也会遇到令人沮丧的时候，

并经验自己人性的局限。如果人性占了上风，他们的同伴会把他

们逼疯！因此，在分享完这些之后，耶稣呼吁他们在生活中保持

平衡，现在是时候去私下休息了。在家人、朋友和社交媒体之

点安全了。全面开放对我们所有人都有好处，尤

其对年轻人，他们需要社交活动，不能整天上网

课和打游戏，他们需要身心灵的健康。尽管教堂

全面开放了，但我们仍然要注意：在堂里戴上口
