As friendster gained popularity it didn’t take into account the effect the increase of users would have on it’s servers. It quickly became so overloaded with data that the site was slow and never working properly. Users lost interest and the site failed.

Zuckerberg and his team learned from friendster’s mistake. They only brought facebook to new schools when they had new servers that could handle it. This kept the site speedy and efficient, just like the users wanted.

The facebook team was very reluctant to allow VC’s to invest in their company. They didn’t want to get involved with any party that would try to use their investment to change the ways of the site for their own advantage. Zuckerberg only wanted supporters who shared his same vision for facebook.
