What is Timebanking
• Edgar Cahn- originator
• People list the skills and experience which they can offer and those that they may need.
• Everyone’s skills are valued equally - one hour always equals one time credit
• A record is kept of all the time credits earned and spent
Who are we• Charity
• Social Enterprise arm
• Set up timebanks in community settings- Schools, Homeless organisations, GP surgeries etc.
Community development and capacity
building
All community projects/activities happen as a result of
community needs…makes engagement easier
The expertise is in the community…..the professional is the
facilitator
Skills and knowledge are shared through a peer support model
and coproduction
What and how do we measure impact?
Use traditional tools-surveys/questionnaires,
goal setting; but also less traditional measures-
contribution to community events,
participation in other programmes, move from
timebank member to coordinator to employed
staff and number of timecredits generated
Don’t be afraid of qualitative
stuff..participantfeedback is everything;
especially for managing attrition
Where do we deliver?
Work with anyone that would have you-Community assets are everywhere
Engage with businesses and other organisations particularly those interested in corporate social responsibility
Timebanking is about shared resources, agenda matching and maximising all assets..collaborate when and wherever possible
Capitalise on local, national and international events
Social media, online partners, radio programmes..
