  • 4Site, Healthiness of.A person shall not, without the written permission of

    the Board, erect a building upon any site which shallhave been filled with any material impregnated withftecal or with animal or vegetable matter, or upon whichany such matter may have been deposited, sinless anduntil such matter shall have beeu properly renioved byexcau-ation or otherwise from such site and depressionsfilled in with clean soil.

    Every person who shall erect a building shall causethe subsoil of the site of such building to be effectuallydrained wherever in the opinion of the Board the damp-isess of the site renders such a precaution necessary.

    No person shall commence to build any structurewithout having first provided proper and sufficient sani-tary acconiniodation to the satisfaction of the Board forall ersomis engaged or employed upon such structure.

    Motor garages not exceeding three hundred squarefeet in floor area may be built in iron, brick, stone orconcrete, or other nou-iufiamnsable niaterial anywherein the district;, provided that time Board may require

    that any such motor garage be fifty feet distantfrom the frontage of any road or street (exceptiu special eases where the physical configurationof the ground precludes such distance being ob-served)

    that any such motor garage be five feet distantfrom tIme frontage of any other road or street;

    that any such motor garage be 10 feet distantfroni any building used as a dwelling-house onthe same allotment or on any allotment adjoin-lug;

    that the motor gagage complies otherwise withall tIme conditions and limitations of this by-lawiii regard to buildings.

    Fowl-houses of not more than two limedred square feetiii area and not umorc than six feet in height may beerected at rear o:f am- dwelling, provided that the smear-est portion of such fowl-house is at least 30 feet fromamsy bnildussg used as or intended for a dwelling, and atleast four feet from the boumidar1- of land not in thesame occupation.

    Fowl-houses of larger area niay be erected if at adistance of at least 50 feet from any street and 40 feetfroni any dwelling-house and at least four feet from timeboundary of land not iii the sanie occupation: Providedthat the roof and walls are covered with galvanised ironor other fire-resistimsg material, approved by time Sur-veyor, and that the building shall not be more thanseven feet high.

    The Board may refuse or postpoue approval to buildupon a site which is unhealthy by reason of its liabilityto danipuess, unless and until the site has been rendereddry, sound, and well drained to the satisfaction of theBoard.

    If the Board so direct in any particular case, thewhole or part of the ground surface or site of a dwellingshall be covered with a layer of good cement concrete,or tarred nsctal, rammed solid, and at least four incisesthick.

    5.Position of Building Site.No building which is intended to be used or which

    shall be used as a dwelling-house, and no addition to anysuch buildimisg shall be built., constructed, or erectedwithin a distance of 20 feet mnetmsurel horizontally fromthe building line of the street or road the building isintended to or shall front.

    Except as hereinafter provided no building which isintended to be used, or which shall be used as a dwelling-house, and no addition to any building which is intendedto be used, or winch shall be used as a dwelling-house,shall be built, constructed, or erected

    (a.) If of wood, within a distance of four feet; if ofbrick, stone, concrete, os cement blocks, withina distance of three feet measured horizontallyof any street, road, lane, or right-of--way at theside of such building or of any land not in thesanie possession or occupation.

    (b) Provided always, that any sueh building or addi-tion may abut on the building line of anystreet, road, lane, or right-of-way at the sideof such building, or he less than the prescribeddistance therefrom, or frons land not in thesame possession or occupation, or frons a build-ing or erection with ass external wnhl of wood;provided that the wall or walls which abut onor face with the prescribed distance such street,

    road, lane, or right-of-way or laud or buildingor erection, as the case may be, shall be ofconcrete at least six inches imi thickness, or ofbrick or stommes at least S inches in thickness,projecting in all cases at least one inch beyondthe woodwork front amid back and at leastomie foot six inches through the moot coveringthe gutter adjoining the same.

    6.Access to Bear.Where there is no public and comivemnemit access to the

    10.Materials amid Workmanship.Materials winch have beemu used iii time constrtietiomm

    of any cesspit, clraimi, or sewer, or which for any otherreason are damsgerous to hmcalthc, shall not be used in timeerection of any building.

    Faulty or umisuitable immateriais shall hot be used inamsy buildimug.

    Every part of a buidmmmg shall Ime erected and finisisedoff in a good and workmanlike misammer.

    Bricks used in any building shall be good, hard, andwell bur,it, and if old or seeommd-hmand simall be thor-oughily cleaned and approved by the Board in writinglmefore being so used.

    All brick os stomme ehimnmmeys shall be commstrueted ofammmpie flue, to be well plastered os- pargetted inside forthe full height, amid em tiunber of ammy description willbe allowed to be built into time brickwork. The Boardmay give authority to erect imon cimimneys, but iii theerectiomi they shah be laid oim either stoime or concretebase amid free frommi all woodwork.

    Heartims of stone, brick, ceimment, or iron of approveddimensions shall he placed iii fmoimt of all fireplaces.

    Cemnemit blocks shall be propemly cured for three daysby sprayimug with water or effectively eoverimsg with bagsor other approved niaterial whmiehm shall be kept wet formmot less than three days.

    11.Testimig Materials.Time Board may test any buildimug materials, and pro-

    hnbit the use of such nmaterials as are proved unfittedfor the purpose for which they were intended to be used.

    12.Timber Construction.All timbers used iii ammy kmumildumigs shall be of good

    soumud material, free from rot, free from large and looseknots, aimd free from shakes, and free from any imnper-feetions whereby time strength of the timber may beimumpaired.
