• The Commission appreciated all the activities described.

• The BRAVE approach of giving the highest level of recognition to EMAS compared to ISO 14001 within the elaboration of the simplification proposals was particularly appreciated.

Next steps

• The EC representatives will first present the BRAVE project and its major results at the next Meeting of the EMAS Article 49 Committee, scheduled in Dublin, 6 and 7 June 2013;

• The BRAVE partners will then present the project at the Annual meeting of the Forum of Competent Bodies in autumn 2013;

• A stakeholder consultation workshop on the European regulatory relief proposals will finally be held in Brussels at the beginning of 2014.

1) Belgium want to know if Mr Iraldo can distribute the full interim results to the Art 49 meetings and FCB Members e.g. before or after the summer break.

 *** The report on the European survey will be completed right after the summer break and it will be published on the project web site (www.braveproject.eu)  within the end of September.

 2) Germany wants to know if the BRAVE project is or can be linked to the ongoing IMPEL project on EMAS as tool / help for enforcement authorities, EMAS is currently hardly used in the enforcement area. Reluctance from the side of IMPEL to address the issue. IMPEL looks at things from a wide perspective. They are not concerned with EMAS but more with requirements that results from EU legislation to the enforcement criteria. Mr Iraldo is encouraged to share the results from the BRAVE project also within the IMPEL community.. A "Unique selling point" of EMAS is its focus on compliance so the added value of EMAS for enforcement authorities should be obvious. That link should be maintain and strengthened if we want EMAS to picked up by enforcement authorities..

 *** Thanks for the suggestion. We also trust that there might be strong potential connections between BRAVE and IMPEL activities. We already asked our partner ARPA Lombardia, who is intensively participating in their activities, to get in touch with IMPEL in order to present the BRAVE project and discuss with them the potential connections between the two projects. For instance, it would be valuable to get their feedbacks on our proposals. We will have their feedback reported by ARPA in the next partner meeting, on July 11 th in Florence.
