Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases IIAD International Laboratory Training Program Overview The IIAD Internaonal Laboratory Training Program consists of face-to-face, online, and independent study courses. The program includes nine modules, and provides trainees with foundaonal informaon and skills to support veterinary diagnoscs. The informaon is presented in a series of PowerPoint presentaons with speaker notes, exercises, acvies, and evaluaon materials. Available courses include Laboratory Management and Introducon to Bioinformacs. Laboratory Management Short Course For mid- and senior-level veterinary laboratory diagnoscians, this two-week short course provides an overview of execuve laboratory management. The course is intended to provide foundaonal informaon and skills to support laboratory management. Topics are taught face-to-face or through video recorded online lectures. The course includes 34.5 hours of lectures, exercises, evaluaon materials, and answer sheets. Topics covered include: Laboratory Organizaon Human Resource Management Communicaon Financial Management Operaonal Management Building Laboratory Networks (available 8/1/2016) Duraon U.S. laboratory training: 2 weeks U.S. and in-country scienfic exchanges: 8-12 weeks Introductory Bioinformacs Short Course Bioinformacs combines the disciplines of stascs, computer science, and biological sciences to enable researchers to understand, analyze, and interpret biological data. The Bioinformacs Short Course provides a concise overview of bioinformacs using avian influenza as a model for presentaons, exercises, experienal learning, and other acvies. A five module course for U.S. and in-country training acvies provides mid-career internaonal veterinary sciensts with foundaonal skills for the interpretaon of bioinformacs informaon. Topics are taught face-to- face or through video recorded online lectures. The course includes 40 hours of lectures, exercises, and evaluaon materials. All parcipants will receive printed study materials and answer sheets.
