Relative Equilibrium : Pressure distribution in a liquid subjected to acceleration, pressure distribution in a liquid subjected to rotation.

Unit III Kinematics of Fluid Flow : Types of flow, stream line, path line, streak line, stream cube, continuity equation. One and two dimensional flow, velocity and acceleration at a point, potential lines, Flow net, stream function, velocity potential, circulation vortex motion. Dynamics of Fluid Flow : One dimensional method for flow analysis, Euler’s equation of motion. Derivation of Bernoulli’s equation for incompressible flow and its application.

Measurement of Fluid Flow : Through ducts or pipes Ventury meter, Orifice meter, Pitot tube. Through reservoirs, Orifice, Mouthpiece. Through open channels discharge oval notches (Triangular, Rectangular, Trapezoidal only) Rotameter, Vaneanemometer, Turbinemeter, Error analysis inflow measurements.

Viscous Flow : Introduction to Laminar and turbulent flow, Reynolds number and its significant. Boundary layer concept, Wall shear and boundary layer thickness, displacement thickness and momentum thickness, Momentum integral equations for boundary layer (Von Karman) Separation drag and lift on immersed bodies flow of viscous fluids through parallel plates, pipes, kinetic energy correction factor, momentum energy correction factor.

Flow through pipes, equation for pipe flow, Friction charts and their uses, losses in pipes and fittings, Hydraulic gradient lines and total energy lines, pipes in series parallel Siphon, water hammer phenomenal, economics of pipe systems. Power Transmission through pipe Line condition for maximum power transmission through a given pipe line (Single pipe) Relationship of nozzle diameter to pipe diameter for maximum power transmission.

It is expected to select project topic as per the guidelines of the project to be undertaken in the 8th Semester. Also it is expected to carry out the Literature survey for their project work and finalize the methodology and schedule of the project. 3. Detailed design of some mechanical system. This may comprise of machines, Thermal, Hydraulic/Pneumatic system and design of some small Industry and like.

4. Detailed experimental/Practical verification of some thermal Engineering systems.

5. Detailed study of some industry manufacturing some product. This study may be comprising of various aspects such as plant layout, mechanical handling system, assembly shop, quality control system, maintenance system, various service systems, design, development and planning functions, techno-economic studies etc. Feasibility of small scale industry. Study may also comprise of indepth and exhaustive analysis of any one of the above mentioned systems in the context of 2/3 factors belonging to the industry.

6. Detailed study of the literature on a normal topic alongwith the comparative study of various approaches studied under literature.
