    13. Available Scholarship

    The Institute has a comprehensive scheme for scholarship. It is the endeavour of the

    Institute that no student be denied opportunity to pursue that PGP for want ofadequate financial resources.

    It should be borne in mind however that no financial aid or scholarship would be

    automatic and may actually be denied or withdrawn from a student if his/her conductis found to be unsatisfactory and sufficient to warrant such action.

    Pending sanction of financial aid/award of scholarship students are required to make

    payment of fees, mess charges, etc. on the due dates.

    Rules and Regulations for Financial Assistance

    1. ObjectivesIt is the endeavour of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, that no student be

    denied opportunity to pursue the Post-graduate Programme in Management (PGP)/Post-

    Graduate Programme in Agri-Business Management (PGP-ABM) at IIMA for want of

    adequate financial resources. Towards this end, from the year 2008-09, IIMA has

    instituted Income-Linked Tuition Fee waver scheme. The IIMA also has its own Special

    Scholarship Scheme (need-based) to complement the scholarship schemes that it operates

    with assistance from industry and government.

    2. Schemes

    In addition to income -linked tuition fee waver scholarships, , the following schemes arein operation at present

    i) Family Income Linked Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme: All students entering thepostgraduate programs (PGP and PGP-ABM) whose total family income does not

    exceed Rs.6 lacs in the last financial year are eligible for the fee waiver scheme. Alsoa complete waiver of non-tuition fee is awarded to those students whose total family

    income in a financial is below or equal to Rs. 1 Lakh.

    The Income Linked Tuition Fee Waiver has been granted to PGP & PGP-ABM

    students of the first and second year based on their total annual family income.

    Annual family income is defined as the income of parents/legal guardians & spouses

    if any.

    The Income Linked Tuition Fee Waiver for each student was determined on the basis

    of the following table:

    In addition all the students whose annual family income was less than 1 lac was also

    granted waiver of non- tuition fee.

    For the academic year 2009-10, a total of Rs.8,31,28,667/- fee was waived off based

    on the students annual family income of 2007-08.

    ii) IIMA Special Scholarships (need-based): All students entering the postgraduate

    programs (PGP and PGP-ABM) in 2009 whose gross annual family incomes did not

    exceed Rs. 2,00,000 during the last financial year are eligible to apply for scholarshipsup to full tuition fee under the IIMA Special Scholarship Scheme (ISSS). Family

    income is taken to mean the income of parents/ guardians and spouse. It does notinclude income earned by the student or the students siblings. The need will be

    assessed on the basis of family asset ownership, financial position of the family(including any savings that the student may have from his or her prior work), the

    familys gross annual income from all sources, and the number of dependents on thefamily income. Applications for need-based scholarships will be made available soon

    after the PGP begins. The relevant cut-off dates and other details will be announced in

    early July.

    iii) Industry Scholarships (need-based): About 15 scholarships (with the maximum

    amount limited to about Rs.10,000 per student) may be awarded from funds instituted

    by various companies. These scholarships may be awarded to needy students who are

    ineligible to apply for the IIMA special scholarships.

    iv)

    SC/ST Scholarships: All SC/ST students in the postgraduate programs are awardedRs.150 per month for 10 months.

    v) GOI Merit-cum-Means Scholarships: The Government of India Merit-cum-Means

    (MCM) scholarships, given both in the first and second year, are awarded to a

    maximum of 25% of students (of the non-sponsored student body) each year. The

    value of each scholarship is Rs. 2,200 per annum.

    To become eligible for the MCM scholarships, the student must satisfy the

    means conditions laid down by the Government of India and the meritrequirements laid down by the Institute. Further details will be available once

    students join the PGP.

    vi) Aditya Birla Group Scholarships:These scholarships (about three each to PGP I

    and II) are awarded by the ABG. The selection is done entirely by the ABG, and is

    based on merit. The amount awarded is about Rs.1.25 lakhs per student per year.

    vii)OP Jindal Engineering and Management Scholars: These scholarships (one each

    to PGP I and PGP II) are awarded by OP Jindal Group. The selection is made based

    on the academic performance. The final selection is done through an on-line test and

    a personal interview.

    viii)Ocwen Scholarship for Competence in Academics:- The scholarship is instituted

    by Ocwen Financial Solutations Pvt. Ltd. It is awarded to a first year student. The

    final selection is done through a research paper and personal interview.

    ix) ONGC SC/ST Merit cum Means Scholarships: - Instituted by the ONGC,

    scholarships are awarded to the selected SC/ST candidates yearly to the eligible 1st

    year students of the institute.

    x)

    Other Scholarships facilitated by the IIMA include scholarships awarded by variousstate governments to students from their states.

    3. General Conditions for Award of all Scholarships

    i) Students who have violated the Institutes discipline norms or are guilty of

    misconduct will not be considered for award of any of these scholarships.

    ii) There may also be special conditions in some of the scholarships.

    iii) The Institutes Financial Aid and Awards Committee may prescribe minimum grade

    points which the student must receive to become eligible for the award of

    scholarships.

    iv) A student can accept more than one scholarship/grant in one academic year, provided

    there is no objection from the scholarship donors and the total amount of such

    scholarships/grants put together does not exceed the actual yearly expenses (PGP fees

    and other charges plus board and lodging) payable to IIMA during a particular

    academic year.

    v) The recipient of a scholarship should inform the Financial Aid and Awards

    Committee immediately if he/she receives any other scholarship, grant or loan

    fellowship from sources other than the Institute.

    vi) The conditions governing the award of scholarships are subject to change at the

    discretion of the Institute/donor organizations.

    vii)The Institute reserves the right to withdraw a scholarship already granted, on the

    following grounds (i) false information in the scholarship application, (ii) violation ofinstitute discipline, (iii) misconduct.

    viii)The decisions of the Financial Aid and Awards Committee regarding the award of

    scholarships will be final.

    *Please note that the private scholarship schemes in # 2 (vii), (viii) & (ix) are subject to the

    announcement by the respective sponsors each year.

    Reservation Policy

    As per the Government of India requirements, 15% of the seats are reserved for ScheduledCaste (SC) and 7 % for Schedule Tribe (ST) candidates. 27% of seats are reserved for

    Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates belonging to the non-creamy layer.

    As per the provision under section 39 of the PWD Act, 1995, 3% seats are reserved for

    Differently Abled (DA) candidates. The three categories of disability are a) low-

    vision/blindness, b) hearing impairment, and c) locomotor disability/cerebral palsy. This

    provision is applicable if the candidates suffers from any of the listed disabilities to th extentof not less than 40%, as certified by a medical authority as prescribed and explained in the

    said Act.
