This project relies on a partnership between International Paper forestry area and beekeeper coops in the regions where the company operates.

Beekeeping is the science, or art, or maintaining bee colonies. Migratory beekeeping takes place when the eucalyp-tus is flowering, when hives are set up for honey production.

The Supportive Beekeeping project be-gan in 2011, aimed at the multiple use of eucalyptus forests, prioritizing social and environmental development in the areas where IP operates and generating income for local beekeepers.

The project’s dynamic consists of acting in mutual collaboration, with IP allowing beekeepers to use areas of eu-calyptus forests to set up their hives and the boxes necessary to produce honey, hel-ping them to increase their income.

In an effort to expand the project by reaching new people in areas, in 2015, IIP developed an additional partnership with a cooperative in the city of Leme.

Founded in 1997, Book City is a the-matic theatrical space. This space is diffe-rent because it is highly educational and helps to develop the habit of reading from an early age. By partnering with Interna-tional Paper Institute, it began the Tra-velling Book City project, aimed at provi-ding experiences for other municipalities where IIP operates. The theatrical space is therefore replicated in other locations outside of the city of São Paulo.

The project has already been carried out in every region where International Paper has pulp and paper manufacturing businesses. In 2015, Book City made its debut in the regions where brown paper and packing manufacturing units are lo-cated. The target public of the project is 6 to 10 year old public school students. Children of International Paper employe-es take part in special editions, held on weekends.

With the support of the São Paulo state Cultural Action Program (Proac), the Travelling Book City project was held in four cities in the state. Suzano, Franco da Rocha, Paulínia and Itapeva.

Educação Socioambiental (Social and Environmental Education)

Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Educação Sociomabiental (Social and Environmental Education) Project includes an essay and literary contest, held at the Mogi Guaçu unit. In addition to contribu-ting to the education of socially responsi-ble children and adolescents, the project has also collaborated with environmental conservation and restoration of green are-as in the cities of Mogi Guaçu, Mogi Mi-rim and Estiva Gerbi by holding travelling planting projects among these cities.

In 2015, the project underwent a trans-formation, receiving an innovative new format. Participants were provided with

workshops where training was given by a linguist. See how the project worked:

Phase I – Preparatory: One hun-dred and sixteen 5th graders, 119 high school freshmen and 71 high school se-niors were chosen.

Phase II – Workshops – Elimina-tion: Workshops were held by IP Institute with the goal of providing a Composition Course with a linguistics professional to students selected by schools during the preparatory phase. Students that did not take part in the workshops were elimina-ted from phase III, the finals.

Phase III – Finals – Essay Con-test: There was not set title for the essay, which was to cover the topic of “SOIL,” with each student invited to re-flect on this topic. To develop an idea on this topic, which needed to be written in 30 (thirty) lines or less. Students were free to use any essay format.

Mire-se no Exemplo (Follow the example)

Mire-se no Exemplo (Follow the Example) is a tutoring program for Formare students, offered exclusively by International Paper.

In addition to the Volunteer Educators who volunteer their time to teach classes, each Formare student is also given a “Tutor” who monitors the student during the project.

The tutors are IP leaders (Supervisors, Coordinators, Managers and Directors) who are willing to share their professional and personal experience through tutoring, aimed at students being able to model themselves on the good examples of their tutors.

Mogi Guaçu and Luiz Antônio Meeting

With the goal of integrating classes and exchanging experiences, every year IIP holds the “Annual Meeting” of classes, or-ganized by the students. The 2015 meeting took place at our Luiz Antônio/SP unit.

Formare students from the Mogi Gua-çu unit built a functioning model of the mill showing all of the details of the pa-per production process: from planting eu-calyptus to sale and export. The students presented the mill scene by discussing

Functional Model – MG Factorytechnical data, means of production, pro-cess times, logistics and transportation.

The presentation was geared towards professionals at the Mogi Gua-çu mill during the Internal Occupational Accident Prevention Week (SIPAT). The success of the model and the students’ presentation resulted in the class tra-velling to International Paper’s Corporate office in the city of São Paulo. There, the young people were able to share what they learned in Formare and had a chan-ce to talk about how the model was crea-ted and the benefits of efforts inside and outside of the classroom.

From November 3 to 26, students and volunteer educators organized, planned and held a drive for personal care products.

Since 2008, the project has been held with the mission of informing and raising awareness among participants in relation to the rational use of water, in addition to encouraging conservation activities.

Through campaigns, Water´s Guardians teachers are encouraged to develop the topic of water with their students, therefore forming agents to spread the concepts and best practices for the conscientious use of water at home and in the communities whe-re they live.

Guardiões das Águas (Water´s Guardians)

In March 2015, during World Water Day, IIP held the final fraternization event for the Water´s Guardians in the Luiz An-tônio region. The event was held at the Professora Vera Lúcia Castelhano Public Primary School, in the city of Guatapa-rá, and was attended by approximately 700 people, including students, teachers,

parents and the community neighboring the school. The event was held as a way to recognize the engagement of the te-achers and students at the school, who were the winners of the Water´s Guar-dians campaign in 2014, which meant a huge celebration was held for all of the participants.

Note: In 2015, the Water´s Guardians project was under-going an overhaul and is expected to be implemented in the city of Rio Verde/GO as of 2016.

Stated in 2008, the project provides education to young people on being tree nursery workers, through partnerships be-tween public and private organizations. While they discover this new trade, ado-lescents aged 14 to 17 have the chance to receive professional training that covers everything from topics related to sustai-nability and environmental conservation to motivation and ethics for the job. The pro-ject also shows the practical experience of producing tree and fruit tree seedlings, which later help to balance the ecosystem when planted.

In 2015, IP Institute changed how it operates the Green´s Guardians project in order to meet a social strategy, with the Institute being dedicated to the project exclusively through actions related to the Municipal Council on Children and Ado-lescents (CMDCA) of the municipality of Guatapará. IP Institute therefore encoura-ged placing the Municipal Fund for Chil-

dren and Adolescents (FMDCA) in good legal standing, so that the project could therefore receive funding from individu-al or corporate benefactors who wish to make direct donations or provide funding through tax deductions. IP Institute esti-mates that this action contributed to the project achieving increased funding and, as a result, expanded activities.

Created to promote volunteering at the corporate office in the city of São Paulo/SP, the project uses internal campaigns to en-courage employee participation in order to gain greater integration with the community.

Through this project, each professional “sponsors” a child for a holiday and near the holiday the volunteer and the child that they are sponsoring meet, with the kids se-eing where their sponsors work while they take part in various recreational activities. The children are also given a present, to re-member the day.

Each volunteer action is called a “MIS-SION” and is aimed at making the activi-ty more playful for participants, using the idea that the volunteers are superheroes. Two missions were held in 2015: Easter and Christmas. Children from Lar Aclima-ção; Minha Casa (Santa Fé), Lar Bororé and Tia Edna, all located in the city of São Pau-lo/SP, took part in the activities.

IIP wants to use this project to spread popular customs and uses that preserve the region’s cultural identity. Implementation of beds of herbs in the shape of a human body was proposed so that kids and their families could enjoy the benefits of the garden for a healthier and preventive diet. Environmental awareness activities contribute to getting young people to play a leading social role on sustainability matters.

Its goal is to raise awareness, engage and educate young students (6th to 9th gra-ders, ages 12 to 16) so that they spread en-vironmental conservation concepts and best practices, in addition to sustainable develo-pment of the community where they live.
