Benefits to students
• Gain qualification from two leading institutions.• Receive generous scholarship.• Take advantage of world-class facilities and resources.• Benefit from dual supervision.• Obtain a truly global qualification.• On completion, have access to employment
opportunities with sponsors of their research project.• Have the opportunity to spend part of PhD in
Australia at UQ and with their project sponsor institution.
Industry suggest projects that they’d like to carry out
Students apply to projects
Project drives multi disciplinary research
Drives and defines collaboration
Project before student
Project at the core (start)
Project as vehicle for wider engagement between UQ
and IIT-DProject and collaboration is decided prior to students applying/commencing.Focus on the project ensures: • faculty collaboration assured before student,• industry engagement is easier,• student attachment to project,• student selection (best fit for project),• multidisciplinary approaches possible,• outcomes orientation,• focus on problems that need to be solved as
opposed to problems that can be solved.
A whole-of-University approach:• could involve all Faculties/Institutes at UQ,• submit your project (we will find a match for your
project if you do not know),• the model allows for associate partners and
industry partners to be engaged too.
Joint-PhD ModelOver-arching principles: • The joint-PhD program will have a jointly
developed set of guidelines that all students must follow for the duration of their candidature.
• Students would graduate with a jointly badged PhD from both institutions.
• The Academy will oversee the governance of the joint program.
• All students would apply through the On-line Applications (OLA) system at UQ.
• Students will apply for projects listed on the Academy website (via an application link).
• Supervisors from both UQ and IITD would be provided access to this portal to view applications.
• Each project would specify the location (IITD/UQ) where funding is available for the project and students would also be able to provide the preference on the location they would join.

Intellectual property
• Agreement on how to share IP (specified in the JV Agreement and in the joint PhD agreement).
• Students assign their IP to The Academy on joining.
• This enables The Academy to work with Industry effectively.
• Academy and JV IP Agreements should refer to and address IP commercialisation clauses effectively, whereby, either FITT or UniQuest file, manage and commercialise IP and pass on proceeds to the institutions and, through them, to the inventors (including student).
