CLC Materials Trial Packs

On the following pages we provide

a chart that lays out our latest range of color laser copier papers.

This easy to understand chart is arranged from the thinnest papers at the top to the thickest at the bottom.

The range provides equipment users with a variety of surfaces and paper weights to achieve virtually any imaging application.

Each of our papers has been designed to run consistently and trouble free. All have been tested extensively, by the leading copier manufacturers, on many of the most modern color laser devices available.

Our main range of CLC papers starts at 28lb bond (105gsm) and runs to 110lb cover (300gsm), the thickest available for today’s copiers.

Most are available in 5 popular sizes. Our abbreviations for these sizes are:

The papers are offered packed in boxes, reams or cases; to cater for all volume requirements.

The right hand side of the chart will show you the maximum thickness of our materials suitable for a few of the most popularmakes and models of copiers. Please consult your equipment manual for your particular copier to confirm the suitability of thepaper weight you desire to run. If in doubt; just ask your supplies representative for the specialty papers chart for your specificdevice. We offer three surface finishes in our range; a matte two side, a soft gloss two side and a high gloss in one and two side versions.

HIGH GLOSS

These high gloss papers are specially formulated for use intoner-based color copier systems and printers.

The glossy, smooth yet porous surface is ideal for producing

the finest color images.

These premium laser papers represent a breakthrough in coated laser technology. They are high quality, affordable and offer a variety of improvements over current products

in the market.

� Higher image quality in two sided printing (better presentation materials).

SOFT GLOSS

Copier Papers and Card stock 7

Paper weight is generally expressed as grams per square meter (gsm),

a measure that makes it easy to compare any two pieces of paper, even if the papers are of different types such as offset and index. In North America, paper weights are given as the weight in pounds of 500 sheets of a particular size. The size of the basis sheet, however, varies with the type of paper, thus making it difficult to compare weights between different types of paper. A 50-pound xerographic bond is not the same as a 50-pound offset paper, and both are different from a 50-pound index stock.

To be able to convert from one paper weight to the nearest comparable weight of another

paper type, refer to the chart on page 54 of this catalog.

RECYCLED PAPEREnvironmental consciousness and a sense of public responsibility have resulted in the increased use of recycled papers.

Recycled papers are manufactured using some percentage of post-consumer waste fiber instead of virgin fiber. Withadvances in wastepaper sorting and processing, recycled content can be found in many types of paper products, including multipurpose bonds and other digital papers. There are two types of recycled fiber: post-consumer waste and preconsumerindustrial waste. Post-consumer waste is the fiber recovered from papers that have been used for their intended end-use, for example a brochure or document that has been printed and discarded in an office environment. Pre-consumer/industrial waste isthe fiber recovered from papers that have been discarded during a manufacturing process, for example, the waste such as holepunches or excess trim collected during a paper converting operation.

bRIGHTNESSBrightness is a measure of the amount of light, of a specific wavelength, a sheet reflects. The more light it reflects, the higher thebrightness. Brightness, to a large extent, dictates the cost of the sheet, but has no relationship with functionality. Brightness has nobearing on sheet feeding performance but does have a significant impact on image quality. High-brightness papers give more contrast, allowing colors to stand out; low brightness papers are easier on the eyes for periods of extended viewing or reading.Higher brightness papers do not necessarily perform better in your digital printing system but add value to your print jobs.Adequate paper brightness enhances the contrast between the paper and the image, thus improving readability. Brightness isespecially important for color printing to ensure images are vivid.

SMOOTHNESSA paper’s smoothness has a significant impact on image quality. If paper is too rough, image quality degrades; with increasingroughness, expect a loss of print quality in solids and halftones resulting in graininess. Extremely rough paper does not allow tonerto fuse properly, which results in an image that may rub or flake off. Digital color grades are smoother to meet the more demanding print quality requirements with coated paper being the smoothest grade.

wHITENESS (Shade)Whiteness is an important property of paper as it relates strongly to the visual appeal of the printed product. Whiteness is a measure of the light reflectance of paper across the whole visible spectrum as opposed to brightness, which is measured at onlyone wavelength. In this way, it more closely matches the viewer’s perception of how white a sheet of paper is. Whiteness has noimpact on sheet feeding performance, but whiteness and brightness do play an important role in the visual appeal of the sheet andprinted product.

GLOSS LEVELThe gloss level of paper is measured as the ratio of reflected to incident light. It is the reflectance of the surface that is responsiblefor its shiny or lustrous appearance. A higher gloss is achieved by making the surface more reflective through a combination of calendering (pressing) and/or coating choices.

OPACITYOpacity is an important consideration in duplex/perfecting (two-sided) printing. Good digital paper must be sufficiently opaque toprevent show through from the reverse side of a duplexed page, or from the subsequent pages in a set. Usually, the lighter inweight a paper is, the less opacity it has. Opacity is especially important when printing color since multiple layers of toner areplaced on the paper.

In selecting one of our papers, or any other manufacturer’s paper for digital color copying, be aware that the color or shade of the paper strongly influences the eye’s perception.

When selecting a paper, choose a sheet that has good brightness as well as sufficient whiteness to provide good color reproduction. The closer to true white the paper is, the more accurately a given color will be rendered. All of the papers we offerhave a high level of brightness, whiteness, opacity and smoothness as well as a percentage of post-consumer waste (PCW).Each of these important characteristics are factors in achieving truly exceptional print quality. Traditionally, copier toner was oil based, with the advent of new manufacturing technology, toner performance has improved dramatically. Chemically produced wax

based toner is now found in many of the latest color and black and white copiers. Torespond to this technical advancement, heat transfer manufacturers have had to developed

new coatings which are compatible with the new wax based toners. The down side is thatthese toners need to have much hotter fusing temperatures to melt them, and since heat is

the key component to heat transfer, the problem becomes clear. Manufacturers of heattransfer papers are continuing to improve their product. Testing is key to finding the material that suits you.

Film weight - The thickness or weight of lamination film is expressed in mils. We offer lamination pouches in 3, 5, 7 & 10

mil thickness and lamination rolls in 1.5, 3, 5 & 10 mil thickness. For pouches, the mil weight is expressed per side, therefore

the total weight of the pouch needs to be doubled. For example; a 5 mil pouch consists of two sheets of 5 mil film = 10 mil, plus

the thickness of your document, normal bond paper is 4 mil, giving a total thickness of 14 mil.

For rolls, the mil weight is expressed as the actual weight. For example; a 5 mil film is 5 mil in total thickness.

Pouch Temperature Setting - Our lamination pouches are manufactured with a low temperature premium grade

co-polymer adhesive. The temperature range is from 210° for the thinner films to 275° for the 10 mil heavier weight pouches.

The lower bonding temperature speeds up the laminating process and reduces the need for cooling.

Roll Temperature Setting - Our lamination rolls are manufactured in two grades of adhesive. The 3, 5 and 10 mil rolls

are produced with a CL low temperature premium grade co-polymer adhesive. The temperature range for the CL grade is from

220° for the thinner films to 270° for the 10 mil heavier weight film. The CR grade has an economical adhesive that requires a

higher laminating temperature of 290° - 310° depending on film thickness.

Applications - These pouches and rolls are designed to laminate a wide range of materials. They will adhere to

standard paper products, color copied papers, glossy printed and inkjet printed materials.

**F/A Ratio - Clarity of a laminated image is a function of both the thickness of the laminate as well as the ratio of polyester

film to adhesive in the combined thickness. Generally, the higher the ratio of polyester film (the first number) to adhesive (the

second number), the clearer the end result will appear. So too, the higher the polyester content, the more rigid the laminated

item will be.

NOTE: In all cases we recommend test trials to determine the best setting for your particular machine and substrate.

production speeds and reduces silvering and film distortion. A copolymer adhesive provides excellent adhesion to a wide variety of materials. These lamination films have been specifically engineered for large format output such as inkjet, electrostatic and laser technologies. The lower 185° laminating temperature

was designed to accommodate the new types of inks used in wide format imaging. With the addition of LIGHTFast™ technology,this film protects printed images from harmful UV rays resulting in images lasting up to 5 times longer than unprotected prints.Available in standard high gloss and a smooth satin finish which offers a slightly matte look as well as additional scuff and scratchresistance. Temperature range from 175° to 195°.

wide Roll Lamination Films

Our laminating rolls are available in a wide range of sizes from 9” up to 61” width. These laminating films represent a competitively priced means of protectingand enhancing all forms of documents including those produced on inkjet and

electrostatic printers. In addition to protecting images from weathering, edge damage, graffiti etc; new thermal laminates offer 75 to 80 percent reduction of ultra violet rays

which cause inks, toners and papers to fade and discolor prematurely.

Low Heat CL Grade Roll Lamination Film

Two sided lamination pouches made from two sheets of pre-cut laminating film held together with a 1/8” seal on one edge for small pouches and a 1/4” seal on one edge for the letter, legal and menu pouches. The pouch should always be larger than the item being laminated to allow a seal on all 4 edges creating a moisture proof border. Each pack of pouches comes with card carriers to accommodate those machines where carriers are required.

Available in 3, 5, 7 and 10 mil thicknesses. Sealing temperature range from 210° to 275°.

A simple solution is NOW at hand. Your hand. Now anyone can produce professional looking window displays. And...betterstill, you can produce your graphics on any printable material on virtually any print technology. With Easy-Up mounting adhesive, you already have the necessary equipment and print media.

To create a window display, simply hand apply Easy-Up mounting adhesive directly to the surface of the print. Use as much or as little as needed to support the media. For larger prints, it is recommended that Easy-Up is applied to all four edges and down the center of the print.

The Easy-Up adhesive is virtually invisible and the micro dot pattern allows any air to escape, eliminating the chance for unsightly bubbles forming between the image and the glass surface.Easy-Up mounting adhesive is fast,clean and odorless to apply. The prints can even be rolled after application for easy transportation or shipping.

Many applications call for graphics to be mounted onto a solid or rigid surface for

display and presentation. For this purpose, we offer several adhesive backed imagingmaterials designed for quick and easy application to a variety of substrates. Adhesivebacked materials are not only convenient, but they also save time and money as theyeliminate a step in the whole workflow process. Faster print to lamination times are also a key point when producing high color graphics for a variety of display applications.

Our adhesive backed photo films and bonds offer excellent imaging quality and a permanent adhesive which is protected by a paper or filmic release liner. For addeddurability and longevity of display, these materials can be laminated, however a pressure sensitive or cold lamination film is recommended.

Use our adhesive backed papers and films on applications such as window signs, photo quality boards, mounted posters, directional signage and P-O-P graphics where good adhesion and low maintenance are required.
