1. Welcome and introductions - Peter

Peter welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked Aamena, Debra and Ras al-Khaimah

Women's College for hosting our final ILC Coordinators meeting of the academic year.

2. Tour of RKWC ILC & Learning Centre – Aamena/Debra

Aamena and Debra led the group on a tour of the facilities, resources and services at RKWC ILC &

Learning Centre.

Peter reported that our ILC subscription software was heavily utilized this year with both Clarity

Suite and Grammarly usage increasing dramatically on previous years. Our Clarity Suite usage

has nearly quadrupled in the past 2 years, providing over 15,000 hours of online student

instruction. Grammary proved so popular that our entire 3,000 licences were exhausted before

the end of the academic year.

5. New Foundations Intensive Programme – Implications for ILCs? - Duncan

Duncan presented information on the New Foundations Intensive Programme including a list of

the resources, including the ‘Unlock’ series & ‘Achieve 3000’ to be used next AY.

ACTION – Duncan to send his notes from the Foundations Division meeting in Al Ain.

6. ILC Action Plan AY 2014/15 End of Year Reports – Team Leaders

7. HCT ILC Strategic Plan 2014-17 End of Year Report – Peter

Peter presented the end of year report and the work the team has produced during the year. He

also announced the following new goals of HCT (replacing the 2014-17 goals).

Strategic Goal 1: Prepare for student success to meet the needs of the labor market

Strategic Goal 2: Provide an educational environment of the highest quality

Strategic Goal 3: (PMO) Raise the academic standards to meet international accreditation

benchmarks

Strategic Goal 4: Ensure administrative services to meet criteria for quality, efficiency and

transparency

ACTION – PETER to add “HCT ILC Strategic Plan 2014-17” to next year’s ILC Action Plan.

8. ILC Peer Review Prgm End of Year Report – Matt

Matt was unable to attend the meeting, so his presentation was deferred to next ILC meeting.

ACTION – MATT to present his final report at the next ILC meeting

9. ILC Student Survey and Faculty Testimonials End of Year Report - Danville

Danville presented the end of year report. This included the data bank of over 100 ILC related

survey questions. In total, 8 ILC s administered surveys during AY 2014/15 and 10 ILC faculty

testimonials were published to the HCT ILC Website http://hctilcs.weebly.com/why-we-love-the-

ilc.html.

ACTION PETER to publish the data bank of survey questions to the HCT ILC Website.

10. ILC Welcome Manual End of Year Report – Fatma

Fatma presented the end of year report including a demo of the completed iBook

ACTION ALL to review the iBook and provide feedback to Fatma asap for an August/Sept

2015 launch.

11. Foundations English Spelling Bee Project End of Year Report – Peter

Peter presented the work that the team has produced during the year. A grand total of 74 Spelling

Bees were created and published to the HCT ILC Website. A PDF list of all the words has also been

added. Launched in February for the start of Semester 2, the Spelling Bees are now the most

popular pages on the entire site!

12. ILC Action Plan 2014/15 End-of-Year Report Digital Media Skills Course – Peter

Peter presented the work that the team has produced during the year, including the skills, tools &

competencies covered in the 9 modules, which make up the Digital Media Skills Course.

The aim of the course is to teach HCT students how to create content in a variety of forms, making

use of language, images, sound, and new digital tools and technologies.

Peter demod the new website http://digitalmediaskills.weebly.com/ which will be used to deliver

the course.

The course will be ready to launch in September 2015 and it’s hoped some ILCs/colleges will

volunteer to pilot it and provide feedback to the group. The target audience is Bachelor Year 1

students, voluntary to complete and rewarded with 9 individual module certificates and an end of

course certificate for those who complete the whole course.

ACTION – ALL encouraged to tryout the course. Feedback encouraged.

ACTION – ALL to let Peter know if their ILC/Campus would like to pilot the course.

13. Read Theory Demo - Peter

Peter presented “Read Theory” www.readtheory.org/ which offers 1,000 interactive reading

comprehension exercises for FREE. Features include adaptive learning and point’s incentives.

Great for ILCs!

ACTION – PETER to add “Read Theory” to the HCT ILC Website as recommended software.

ACTION – ALL requested to tryout the website. Feedback to the group encouraged.

14. ILC Peer Reviews of SWC – Louise; FMC, FWC, American University Sharjah – Fatma; ADW

(Khalifa Campus) – Danville; DMC, Zayed University (Dubai) – Janet

ACTION – Louise, Fatma, Danville and Janet to send presentation and final reports to Matt

and Peter.
