2 Illinois Business Consulting 2012
Welcome to the 2012 IBC Year-End CelebrationDear Friends and Colleagues,
IBC has completed another highly successful year, and remains the premier student-led consulting organization in the nation. This year over 300 students have completed 54 projects for Fortune 500, mid-sized and start-up clients. We experienced a growth in project volume of 12%, while maintaining the high level of quality deliverables that have become synonymous with Illinois Business Consulting. We have diversified our experience completing projects in 8 different countries and spanning 5 continents.
I would like to personally congratulate each of you for your hard work and dedication that has resulted in the successful completion of your projects. We are all fortunate to have been part of an organization that promotes such a high level of teamwork and professionalism, helping to better prepare ourselves to achieve our career aspirations. The quality of projects generated this year is better than ever, and I am confident that each of you has benefitted both academically and professionally from your participation in our organization.
In the future, I hope that each of you will make an effort to give back to IBC. Whether you bring in new project work, act as a liaison to the organization through your company, or volunteer your time to come back to campus to talk to students, tremendous value can be achieved. Doing so represents a tangible reflection of just how much IBC has done for all on a professional and personal level.
In closing, I would like to thank each and every one of you for all your hard work and dedication. Remember, the network you’ve developed through your involvement in IBC is one that you will carry with you for the rest of your life. Utilize it to maximize your potential professionally and foster the growth of those around you. It has been a pleasure working with and getting to know you, and I wish you success in all your future endeavors.
Best Regards,
Ken FairbanksStudent Director, Illinois Business Consulting University of Illinois, MBA Candidate 2012

25Voitik Scholarship Fund
about the Voitik Scholarship Fund
In 2007, the Voitik Memorial Scholarship joined forces with Illinois Business Consulting (IBC) to support a talented student who works on consulting projects for start-up and small businesses. These projects can range from building a business model to the development of a marketing plan and financial strategy to secure financial backing.
When Larry Voitik (’93 EMBA) passed away in 1994 following a battle with cancer, members of his old study group from the EMBA made sure his memory would live on. Along with Larry’s wife, Pam, the EMBA Program and alumni, they helped create the Larry F. Voitik Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship honors Voitik’s memory by supporting students who share his passion for entrepreneurship and his personal standard for excellence in academic performance.
“The synergy between IBC and Voitik is natural,” said Pam Voitik, Larry’s wife. “The IBC staff shares the scholarship committee’s goal of achieving hands-on education with business community involvement and advancement.”
This year’s recipient was Michelle Jang, a senior in Chemical Engineering, who will be graduating in May 2012. As an undergraduate, Michelle has excelled in several roles, emerging as a leader on very strong teams of undergraduate, MBA and PhD students. As a Senior Manager, Michelle has excelled in a wide array of projects helping foster the growth of those on her team. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Michelle commands the respect of her peers and seeks out opportunities to contribute to the betterment of IBC. As a student, Michelle upholds the highest level of academic excellence. We are proud to have her as our Voitik Scholarship recipient.

26 Illinois Business Consulting 2012
Illinois Business Consulting (IBC) is the premier student run, professionally-managed, fee-based consulting organization in the nation. Since our inception in 1996, we have successfully completed over 900 consulting projects for over 600 clients. In a typical year, over 250 students from across campus complete more than 50 projects for commercial businesses and other organizations ranging from startups to non-profits and government agencies to Fortune 500 multinationals.
We are not a class, student club, or social fraternity. Our primary mission is to professionally develop our students to meet real-world business challenges through practical application of their classroom knowledge in an actual business setting. By the time our students complete a project with IBC, they have succeeded in delivering significant business value to a paying client under tight time pressure as part of a diverse, cross-functional team – all before graduation. Projects are supervised by a professional staff with significant consulting experience and students work with leading faculty and research resources from across the University of Illinois.
