Samira made a face when she openedher tiffin box and thought lsquoWho wantsto eat parathas and brinjal curry NotIrsquoLast week Amma had given her noodleswith capsicum and carrots ldquoThenoodles are squiggly and they look likewormsrdquo she said when she went backhome

ldquoI donrsquot like noodlesrdquo The next day Amma made upma withpeanuts and peas but Samira ate onlythe peanuts in it and took the rest backhome

ldquoShall I give you idlisrdquo asked AmmaldquoOh yes They would be lovely to playwith I can toss and catch them But Iwill not eat themmdashidlis taste like mudrdquoSo now there were parathas and brinjalcurry Ugh ugh ugh

Colourful flowers were blooming in thegarden and butterflies were flittingfrom one to the other An orange butterfly with black checksand stripes said ldquoHello Samira Whyarenrsquot you eating your lunch like all theother childrenrdquo

ldquoOf course one cannot eat vegetablesrdquothe butterfly agreedldquoWhy donrsquot you drink some nectar fromthe flowers like us It is reallydeliciousrdquo

Samira was disgusted

She said ldquoI donrsquot want to eat any grassNor any bushes Even idlis would tastebetter than grass And I am glad thegate is closed because the hibiscus haspretty flowers and I donrsquot want you toeat themrdquo
