When dealing with graphics files there are 3 properties that go into determining the resolution or size of a file.

PixelsPixels

Pixels:  The exact number of 'dots' both horizontally and vertically that make up the file. This is the actual resolution of the file. DPI and Inchesaffect only thesize of the image as it is displayed or printed, but the actual pixels is finite in a bitmapped file.

DPI (Dots per inch):  The number of 'dots' or pixels per each inch of a printed or scanned document.

The actual size measured in inches (either printed or scanned) of an image.

1. Determine the size of image that should appear on web.

2. Use a graphics program to save the image to the determined size in inches first.

3. Compress the image for the web using either Photoshop or Microsoft office picture manager.

4. Save the image in the appropriate file format. (Remember save the name without spaces)
