Separate exit route than entering- different dynamic as you are not waiting in anticipation but are directly taken downstairs outside in

Last journey as you go to your seat- individual now ready to watch the ilm.

Narrowing as you ascend upstairs into the foyer where you wait for the ilm. Drama- anticipation throughout the building.

Move through experiencing the entrance level- taken on a journey towards the cinematic experience.

ENTRANCE- Public underpass where there is the most movement happening around outside the building.

The High Tech aspect of the IMAX design reveals the main structure of the building’s facade. A 6-storey high ring of 12mm thick glass panels are ixed by brackets to steel columns, whose spacing dictates panels with the dimensions of 3x1.5m. The dimensions of 3x1.5m. The problem of maintaining such an expansive wall of glass is soved by cleaning gantries which can travel around the building’s circumference.The gallery is suspended from the steel columns which maximises steel’s structural potential, since it is strongest under tension, and it also reduces interference from the vibrations of Waterloo station beneath. The sense of progression through this building plays a key part in the atmosphere of the cinema. Entering at a lower level from the old underpass and progressing up throgh the lobby and to the auditorium, the anticipation is built along the way. At the end, you exit at the top, underneath the projector box creating a continuous route as you do not go back on yourself though this you do not go back on yourself though this experience and journey. The importance of the progression in this building therefore effects what is classiied as service and servant space.

The historical and cultural signiicance of this area in Southbank has an impact on the grand scale. The gallery forms an opportunity for holding a new annual art event in London.

This area had been notorious for This area had been notorious for crime and rough sleeping which starkly contrasts to its transformation into a lively landscape of trend and arts, emphasied by Hayward Gallery which sits at the heart of the triangular area formed from the triangular area formed from the two main roads which low from BFI IMAX to Trafalger Square and the London Transport Museum. Trafalger Square is a renowned venue for political demonstrations since its construction. The form responds to its hostile acoustic environment. The full height glazed surface creates an added zone of acoustic separation as well as expressing externally the character of the activites within seen as it is a public building. The theatre takes advantage of the theatre takes advantage of the sunken roundabout by creating a separated waiting area just outside the foyer which, with its overgrown lora is like a Garden of Eden sitting amongst the hustle and bustle of London.
