“I will be with you always, even to the end of the world.” (Mt 28:20)

Jesus loves us and He always wants to give us better things as He promised. He assures his disciples saying, “I am telling you the truth, it is better for you that I go away.” (John 16:7) The Disciples did not understand what is better for them. They were troubled and confused, thinking only of themselves, they thought that the Master was behaving ‘weird;’ because they wished Him to remain with them physically forever. Jesus does know what is best for us and He did not want to limit His physical reach to only His disciples in Galilee where He was known as Jesus of Nazareth around the region. He knew it was better for him to go to heaven and send the Holy Spirit so that He lives in every believer’s heart. The power of the Holy Spirit was to guide the disciples to spread the Truth of the kingdom of God to every part of the world. Jesus prepared his disciples for his ascension into heaven. This Sunday we celebrate Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. It is better for all of us to understand the will of The Father, once we have accomplished our mission on earth, we too follow Him where He has prepared a place for us. He is the head and we; His members hope to follow. Jesus has not abandoned us. We have His promise to us saying, “I am with you always, even to the end of the world.” (Mt 28:20) He has gone ahead to prepare a place for us so that we His disciples may be where He is. As we celebrate the Lord’s return to the Father in heaven, we are being commissioned to go forth and proclaim the Gospel of life and love, of hope and peace by the witness of our lives. It is the day of hope and encouragement, commitment to be true Disciples of Christ everywhere we go, beginning with our family and our parish. After the Ascension of the Lord, the disciples returned to Jerusalem with great joy. They received the final blessing, they felt assurances of the Lord’s presence and though physically absent, Jesus was still present, present even in the pain and sorrow they underwent. We too are blessed with His presence and He is with us as we go through these difficult times in our life and faith. He is present when we read the Scripture and meditate upon it, when we pray earnestly without failing. He promises to empower us with the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, we must learn to be humble and let the Holy Spirit lead the way. I am going to start the nine days novena to the Holy Spirit from Friday (May 22nd) to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost to guide me and my parishioners to the right path of faith, wisdom, and knowledge. This month is the month of Mother Mary, let us pray the Rosary every day and let us ask her intercession to grant us the gift of the Holy Spirit and renew the face of the earth. By His Ascension, Christ has not deserted us but has made it possible for the Holy Spirit to enter all times and places. In this way it is possible for each of us to be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, to become the instrument of Christ. Like Saint Paul, I would like to exhort my parishioners to live in a manner worthy of our calling. Saint Paul prays over the Community of Ephesians saying, “May God enlighten the eyes of your hearts so that you may know the great hope to which you have been called.” (Ephesians 4:4-13) This feast of Ascension of the Lord reminds us of our call and mission to become the Mystical Body of Christ, to go and make disciples of all nations. Alleluia!

¡Aleluya!
