A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR, FATHER DAN

“WHAT DOES GOD WANT me to do with the life he has given me?” is the question Jesus want each of us to ask. God has a calling, a plan, a vocation for every one of us. Instead of planning our lives on our own, we just need to discern and follow the plan the ultimate “life coach” has for us. God’s plan for us: uses our strengths, meets the most pressing needs of our time, calls us to greatness – making a big difference for the better in the world, it gives us fulfillment, it gives us a key role on God’s team. (My Pastor’s vision.) “I’M NEW. AM I WELCOME HERE?” YES, YES, YES! Welcome, Welcome, Welcome! You are a beloved brother or sister in the family of Jesus, we are delighted you came. Please come back! “I’VE BEEN IN THE PARISH FOR A WHILE.” I’ll bet Jesus and his family, the church, are especially important to you – as they are to me. I invite you to join me in growing our relationship with our friend, God’s son: Jesus. POPE FRANCIS’ DOCUMENT ON FAMILY LIFE is terrific. (1) You can get

the actual document on line at the Vatican Radio website, and in book form from Amazon.com. (2) One good summary has been provided by Fr. James Martin – google anything like: Martin Top 10 takeaways from Pope’s family document, and you will get it. GREAT BOOK: POPE FRANCIS: “THE JOY OF LOVE,” (Amoris Laetitia), On Love in the Family. April 8, 2016. It runs 260 “Vatican Style” pages, which is about equivalent to a regular 130-page book. The Pope and others recommend reading it slowly and savoring the content. While the whole book is great, you can pick and choose the chapters most relevant to you and read them in that order. RECOMMENDED WEBSITE: Google USCCB DAILY READINGS. There you will find the Mass Bible read-ings for the day in both written and audio form. If you choose, you can also listen to a 4-minute reflection on them. (USCCB = United States Conference of Catholic Bishops). MY APRIL 10th HOMILY THOUGHT: When we Christians disagree, like Jesus, we do so with mercy, friendliness and respect. We presume good intentions. We strive to disagree without being disa-greeable. HAPPY PATRIOTS DAY! “By the rude bridge that arched the flood, Their flag to April’s breeze un-furled, Here once the embattled farmers stood, And fired the shot heard round the world.” (Concord, MA, 1775.) NEW YORK STATE VOTES THIS WEEK: “Holy Spirit, please guide all those involved in the presidential selection process -- giving them an abundance of wisdom and love.” SPORTS UPDATE – As I write this the internet tells me the Red Sox are 3-2 – after last year we cherish being above 500! Celts heading to the playoffs. Bruins have some young prospects that lend hope for future years. Who won the Masters? Our New England schools did not win the Frozen Four. Who will the Pats draft? The Marathon is tomorrow – I ran it three times – really not that hard when you run cross country in college.

God bless you! - Fr Dan

CARDINAL SEAN ON POPE FRANCIS’ APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION “ON LOVE IN THE FAMILY.” “Pope Francis shows himself to be the gentle, merciful pastor who urges us all to take the time to meditate on the importance of families. . . we are urged to reflect upon it and to ponder, patiently and carefully, what the teachings will mean for the Church and for her ministry to families . . . During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, in which the Church celebrates the love and unending mercy of God, Amoris Laetitia is a joyful invitation for families to live the works of mercy and to receive the gift of God’s healing where there is sin and brokenness. As he has done time and time and again, Pope Francis challenges us to approach the weak with compassion, to “enter into the reality of other people’s lives and to know the power of tenderness.”

ALPHA: WHAT IS IT? WHO IS IT FOR? Where can you go to ask the Big Questions, like “Is there more to life than this?” Alpha! Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the basics of the Christian faith through conversation and friendship.

Alpha is great for:

• Adults who are curious about Christianity

• People who were raised in a church but have drifted away over the years

• Faithful people who want a safe place to talk about their questions and doubts

• Parents of Middle School and High School students, wondering how to keep the faith in turbulent times

Our sessions will start April 19th from 7:00-9:00PM. We’ll start with a delicious dinner and end with a great night of conversation and fun! Adults from ages 18-118 are welcome!

Mark’s Gospel LIVE perform & staged by Rev. Joseph Morris

A first century story of healing and compassion The Gospel of St. Mark is widely considered the most ancient of the four canonical gospels- probably written in the late 60s of the first century and based on stories circulated by word of mouth. It’s the oldest, fastest, shortest, and simplest of the Gospels – a work of art. Join us for a dramatic presentation of the Gospel of Mark, to hear and be inspired by the Good News. Invite your friends and family to experience this solo performance by Rev. Joseph Morris.

LIFE IN THE SALEM CATHOLIC COLLABORATIVE

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Thank you to all of our wonderful parishioners of Salem Catholic Collaborative who donated either their time, money or talent to help make our churches festive and welcoming for Holy Week and Easter! KNITTERS NEEDED St. James’ knitting group is looking for new members. We meet on Wednesday mornings from March to June, then September until the bazaar in the Fall. Join us from 9:30-11:30AM in the conference room – BYO needles and yarn, refreshments will be supplied. All are welcome, novices to experts! Our items are sold at the knitting booth at our yearly bazaar. For information, please speak to Jeannette Chalifour. HELP NEEDED AT LIFEBRIDGE Volunteers from Immaculate Conception Parish serve at LifeBridge serving meals on the first Sunday of each month from 12:00-1:30PM. For more information, please speak to Ray Curran, or just come on down to help out. THE PASTORAL COUNCIL MEMBERS Fr. Dan: Pastor and Chair, Margo Morin: Pastoral Ministry Manager, Lodzia Marchwinski, Mike Lutrzykowski Marilyn Costa, Anne DeVoe, Andrea Schwartz, Honora Griebel, Kathleen Keefe Ternes, Regina Flynn and Lucy Corchado. They are doing a great job of advising me at our regular meetings.
