collection this weekend, June 20-21 “The Father’s Day Second Collection in June was started years ago to help support the needs of our senior priests in retirement, some of whom become sick or infirmed. This fund is also used to help care for priests that become ill before retirement and are in need of rehab or experience a lengthy convalescence. The collection also helps defray costs at the priest retirement home in Naperville where a number of priests currently reside. To dispel any confusion, the second collection in December for the retired religious does not help our diocesan priests. That collection is for the religious orders across the country. Each diocese is responsible for the care of their diocesan priests in retirement.” excerpt from Christ Is Our Hope magazine, written by Michael Bava, Chief Financial Officer of the Diocese of Joliet. Envelopes for this collection can be found in your envelope packet. Those using E-offering, will use: Infirm & Retired Priests, June 21, 2020.

F H R’ D Y V We will be celebrating a Novena of Masses starting Saturday, June 15th. The Father’s Day envelope can be found in your Sunday envelopes packet. Respect Life Ministry

Beginning June 22, the Feast of Saints Thomas More and John Fisher, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops celebrates Religious Freedom Week. Join us in promoting religious freedom For the Good of All. During Religious Freedom Week, Catholics are encouraged to pray and act each day for religious freedom. The Pray-Reflect-Act series aims to help Catholics build solidarity with people of faith who are persecuted abroad and find strength to carry out the mission of the Church here in the United States. The Week begins with the Feast of Sts. John Fisher and St. Thomas More, ends with the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, and includes the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. All people desire to know their Creator. All people have a natural impulse to seek the good and to live in accordance with that good. All people can flourish when they pursue the truth about God and respond to the truth. Religious freedom means that all people have the space to flourish. Religious freedom is both an American value and an important part of Catholic teaching on human dignity. When we promote religious freedom, we promote the common good and thus strengthen the life of our nation and the community of nations. For more information and resources go to the usccb.org website.
